PRIMARY WINNERS INFO
League
The league is split into four sections. The sections have generally been organised geographically but the introduction of the Small Schools League has given rise to a focus on size rather than geography.
While the records in the Winners pages mainly reflect the following geographical patterns :
Section A = West, Section B = North-West, Section C = Centre / North-East, Section D = East,
from season 2014-15 the following criteria are used :
Small Schools League = the schools with the smallest rolls, Section A = schools bigger than SSL,
Section C = schools bigger than A but not as big as D, Section D = the schools with the largest rolls.
Cup
The Junior Sports Cup is an all-city competition.
The other cups are section cups, roughly linked in recent years to the traditional geographically-based league sections.
The Linton Cup is for teams in the West (old Section A), the Cameron Cup is for teams in the North-West (old Section B),
the Thomson Cup is for teams in the Centre / North-East (old Section C), the Burgess Cup is for teams in the East (old Section D).
The Angus Trophy Centre Small Schools Cup is for schools playing in the Small Schools League.
Because the sections have varied over the years, it is possible for schools to appear in the record lists with victories in more than one section or more than one section cup.
For example : Dens Road have league wins in Section B, C and D and cup wins in the Burgess, Cameron and Thomson Cups.
The Banks Trophy is now played as a 5-a-side plate competition for schools defeated in the 1st Round of the Junior Sports Cup. This was not always the case - St.Vincent's won both competitions in 1978-79.
SECONDARY WINNERS INFO
Secondary age groups have undergone some changes in recent years and the competitions have had to be renamed. In the Secondary Winners pages all the competitions are classified by age groups used today.
For example, if you had played for St.John's in season 1982-83 and had won the double of U14 League and U14 Senior Sports Cup, you will find that these are now called the U15 League and the U15 Senior Sports Cup.
