Craigie and Morgan drew 2-2 in the Arab Trust DSA Senior League. Morgan opened the scoring and doubled the lead in the second half with a fierce shot which hit the bar and bounced down and out. There were no Azerbaijani linesmen to indicate one way or the other and the referee adjudged the ball to have crossed the line, so 0-2. Things became a little heated soon after but it settled down to a competitive game with end-to-end action. Five minutes from the end Craigie reduced the leeway to 1-2 to make for a dramatic finale. In the last minute Craigie took the ball on the right, turned and hit it from 25 yards into the far top corner ... a fantastic strike which gave the keeper no chance. Once the brief but crazy celebrations had finished, the referee blew the final whistle and after a hard-fought game the players all shook hands. Photos to come..

Wednesday 1st February
St.John’s beat Grove 6-2 in the U15 Shield 4th Round and now travel to Turnbull HS or Lenzie Ac. near Glasgow. With a strong wind behind them St.John's took the lead after 70 seconds. They doubled the lead ten minutes later when Grove could not finish and the ball was launched the length of the park to give St.John's the chance to score at the near post. A cracking strike from the left hit the far corner for 3-0 before Grove worked the ball well to shoot inside the near post for 3-1. St.John's fired in a fourth before the break which the keeper found too hot to handle.
The wind in the second half was not as strong and eventually St.John's scored a couple to make it 6-1 before Grove scored again with the last kick of the game. It was the end of a good run in the Shield for Grove this season and some great strikes for St.John's should set them up nicely for a trip to either Bishopbriggs or nearby Lenzie in the 5th Round. Photos to come.
Grove beat Inverkeithing HS 4-2 in the Senior Girls Shield 4th Round to reach the semifinal where they will play Vale of Leven Ac., Dunfermline HS or Lochside Ac. - this could take some time to sort out. What took no time was Grove's first goal early in the game. Inverkeithing were awarded a penalty to equalise but Grove's quick thinking soon led to retaking the lead though Inverkeithing levelled for 2-2 not long before the break. It only took Grove 24 seconds in the second half to break down the right and beat the keeper for 3-2. Grove played well in the second half but with just one goal advantage for most of the second half there was no time to relax. Ten minutes from the end Grove were fouled at the edge of the box and, instead of blasting the free kick, Grove worked it nicely to open up the Inverkeithing defence and scored for 4-2 to wrap up the win through to the semifinal. Out of all the shields operating Grove Senior Girls are the first team to reach the semifinals. With the wide geographical spread of the teams who could face Grove, it is impossible to say where the semifinal might take place. Photos to come.
Tuesday 31st January
St.John’s beat St.Margaret’s HS Airdrie 3-1 on penalties after a 4-4 draw in the U13 Shield 4th Round and now travel to Boroughmuir HS in Edinburgh or Renfrew HS. St.Margaret's led 2-0 but St.John's were level by halftime and took the lead early in the 2nd half. However a St.Margaret's effort had the keeper struggling to keep the ball out - he looked like he might just have stopped the ball crossing the line but it was no surprise the referee adjudged it to be a goal, 3-3. St.John's went back in front but again St.Margaret's levelled for 4-4 and the game was decided by a penalty shoot-out. St.Margaret's took the first kick which the St.John's keeper saved, St.John's scored theirs and this was repeated for St.John's to lead 2-0 after four kicks. The next ones were both scored to make it 3-1 after six kicks. St.Margaret's had to score the seventh kick out of ten to remain in the competition but the St.John's keeper produced his third save from four kicks to finish the contest. A superb display in the penalty shoot-out for St.John's to reach the 5th Round. Photos to come.
Grove beat St.Columba's HS Dunfermline 5-1 in the U14 Shield 4th Round and now play Inverness Royal Ac. away. Grove scored in the first couple of minutes and soon doubled their lead. Five minutes before the break Grove raced away on the break for a third goal. St.Columba's never gave up and played some good football but Grove were in the mood for more in the second half and scored twice, the fifth being scored by a sub who had just come on - a very popular goal for all his team-mates. St.Columba's scored a late consolation from the penalty spot but it ended 5-1 and Grove will now have a trip up the A9 to Inverness for the 5th Round. Photos to come.
Craigie beat Grove 2-1 in the DSA Arab Trust Senior League. Craigie scored first from a cracking free kick and Grove made it 1-1 by halftime.
Another free kick gave Craigie the chance to strike the winner, 2-1. Photos to come.
