SECONDARY CHAMPIONS - GROVE U13, MONIFIETH U14, BRAEVIEW U15, MONIFIETH GIRLS U15, MORGAN U16, BALDRAGON SENIOR
Thur 1 July - Morgan beat St.Paul's 5-1 in the deciding game of the Arab Trust U16 Champions League. Morgan remained unbeaten in all their league games and their clever free-flowing football was always a joy to watch.
Wed 23 June - Double celebration for Monifieth who picked up two trophies in 20 minutes. The U14s won the Dee 4 Life Champions League with a 3-1 defeat of Grove, then came over to watch the U15 Girls beat Webster's 2-1 in a penalty shoot-out after a goalless draw.
Mon 7 June - Braeview beat Menzieshill 5-3 at Drumgeith to wrap up the Arab Trust U15 League. With the regular season badly affected by the weather Braeview completed the league and cup double without playing a single game on their home pitch ... Drumgeith was the nearest they got to a "home" game!
Wed 26 May - Grove beat Menzieshill 5-0 in the Dee 4 Life U13 Champions League to take the title. After the previous week's 1-1 draw at Lochee Park it was winner take all in the return fixture.
Wed 5 May - Baldragon beat Menzieshill 2-1 in their last Dee 4 Life Arab Trust Senior Champions League match. Having already beaten Harris 3-0 Baldragon are the Senior champions for the first time in their history.

MENZIESHILL U16s CELEBRATE THEIR R.M.KEAN TROPHY WIN
Menzieshill won the first trophy of the season, lifting the U16 R.M.Kean Trophy at Craigowl. With outdoor pitches frozen and light snow falling outside it was good to see some football again at the indoor 5-a-sides. In the first match Menzieshill scored a late equaliser against St.Paul's to draw 1-1. Menzieshill and St.Paul's were level after their next games, both winning 2-0 against Grove and Harris respectively. In the last round of games St.Paul's won 2-0 which meant Menzieshill had to win by three to win the cup. But it was a close-run thing - Harris were 2-0 down but could have pulled one back when they smashed a shot off the bar, Menzieshill broke quickly to score the vital third goal and beat runners-up St.Paul's on goal difference.

MORGAN WIN JULY GAME 5-1 TO LIFT THE LEAGUE SHIELD
Morgan played St.Paul's in the Arab Trust U16 Champions League key match to decide the last remaining trophy. Morgan went a goal behind but were level within a minute and went on to win 5-1 - see the match report above. It is probably the first time ever that a competitive DSFA game has been played in July.
Thur 1 July - The last game of a long long season took place at St.Paul's Astroturf to decide who would win the Arab Trust U16 Champions League. It was the first time a competitive game had been played in July, but after the hot sunny days of late June a cool dull day was perfect for the game - the rain which had been forecast held off fortunately. Both St.Paul's and Morgan started rather cagily and there were no clear-cut chances in the first 14 minutes. Then the game burst into life, as St.Paul's brushed off a challenge at the edge of the box and fired home to take the lead, 1-0 (14m).
The joy was short-lived as within a minute Morgan were level when they controlled a cross from the right at the far post and shot past the keeper from 6 yards, 1-1 (15m). Four minutes later Morgan took the lead when the St.Paul's defence gave Morgan too much space and a 20 yard shot beat the keeper by the post, 1-2 (19m). Both sides had good chances dealt with confidently by the keepers but near halftime Morgan scored what looked like the decisive goal - a strong run down the right and a good cross from near the bye-line, Morgan's first shot at the far post was blocked but the rebound was whipped in, 1-3 (36m). The St.Paul's keeper then denied a further goal attempt before the break.

ST.PAUL'S (GREEN) ON THE ATTACK v. MORGAN (YELLOW) IN THE ARAB TRUST U16 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
St.Paul's tried hard to get back into the game after the break but in the 54th minute it looked all over when a Morgan free kick from the halfway line was controlled and rifled home from near the penalty spot, 1-4 (54m). 4-1 to Morgan who nearly scored again but the keeper turned it away for a corner, then St.Paul's tried a vicious 30-yarder which the Morgan keeper could not hold but had time to recover before anybody else could get there. Another couple of long-range shots from St.Paul's went wide of the post but the final goal of the season fell with 5 minutes to go, Morgan picking up the ball inside the St.Paul's box on the left, beating a player before thundering a shot past the helpless keeper with such force that it went through the net at the side, 1-5 (75m). Morgan played the final minutes out to take the title, well-deserved for their unbeaten run of league games and St.Paul's have something to show for their season as well, with their win in the Caira Trophy final the previous week.

EAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH REPORTS
U13 Final : St.Columba's HS, Dunfermline 3 Queen Anne HS 1
St.Columba's took the lead in the 2nd minute when the Queen Anne keeper was penalised for picking up a passback near the edge of the box - the free kick was knocked to Yanni Iliopoulos who drilled the ball into the bottom corner. Queen Anne struggled to get into the game and St.Columba's went 2-0 up midway through the first half with a 25 yarder from Josh Jeffries over the keeper. Near halftime St.Columba's thought they had scored a third but the flag was up for offside. Halftime : St.Columba's 2 Queen Anne 0
Queen Anne came out after the interval determined to get back into the game - a move down the left ended with a shot which gave the keeper problems, then a free kick forced the keeper to concede a corner. Queen Anne had the ball in the net with a shot through the keeper's legs but again the offside flag was up. St.Columba's were always dangerous though and a shot from the left was on target until the Queen Anne keeper dived across to turn it away for a corner. With three minutes left St.Columba's netted again but this time it was chalked off for high feet on the keeper, but a minute later St.Columba's put the result beyond doubt when Declan Wilson shot from 12 yards inside near the post : 3-0. In time added on Queen Anne grabbed a consolation goal with a header from Stanley Chitemere. The final whistle went soon after.
Full time : St.Columba's 3 Queen Anne 1
With Queen Anne having won the cup the first two seasons and St.Columba's losing in the final last year, it was fitting that St.Columba's lifted the trophy this time.
U15 Final : Montrose Academy 1 Perth Academy 2
Perth Academy got off to a great start and took the lead in the 8th minute when Dale Robertson smacked a right-foot volley from 20 yards which beat the Montrose keeper all ends up. Montrose fought back well and had several chances to test the Perth keeper but there were no more goals in a very even first half. Even a heavy shower did not spoil the entertainment between two well-matched teams.
Halftime : Montrose Ac. 0 Perth Ac. 1
In the opening part of the second half chances were few and far between but both sides found their form again and started to test the keeper. Nearly midway through the half Montrose had a good move saved by the keeper but a minute later Lewis Dunn beat three players and slotted the ball past the keeper for the equaliser. Ten minutes from time the Perth keeper came out of his box and brought down the onrushing striker, though Perth defenders had hurried back to cover. From the free kick Montrose shot over the bar.
The game was picking up pace towards the end - first Perth brought out an excellent save from the Montrose keeper, then Montrose shot just past. With a minute to go Montrose had a header at the far post but the keeper held on to it. With penalties looming, up popped Dale Robertson to head in a dramatic last-minute winner for Perth Academy. Montrose were still able to create a couple of chances to equalise in time added on but Perth held on to win.
Full time : Montrose Ac. 1 Perth Ac. 2
Montrose who won the trophy three years ago missed out this time and Perth Academy become the first Perth & Kinross team to reach the Regional Championship Finals and to win the trophy.
WEBSTER'S WIN U15 GIRLS SHIELD
Wed 26 May - Webster's HS won an exciting U15 Girls Shield Final 3-2 against Eastbank Ac. at Ainslie Park, the new home of Spartans FC. It was a beautiful sunny evening in Edinburgh, both teams were well supported by their fans who gave plenty of vocal backing throughout the game, creating a wonderful atmosphere for the final.
Eastbank in red and white stripes and black shorts took the game to Webster's from the off but the Kirriemuir team in sky blue weathered the storm and took the lead in the 5th minute when Claire Dyce shot home from the edge of the box. Webster's nearly added another three minutes later but hit the bar from close range and the ball was cleared. Soon after Webster's had the Glasgow team in all sorts of difficulties from a corner kick which was knocked off the line twice. Webster's were now putting Eastbank under extreme pressure and won a series of corners most of which curled in dangerously on top of the keeper. It was only a matter of time before the tactic paid off and in the 18th minute the beleaguered Eastbank keeper could not clear the corner and Amy Graham was on the line to force the ball home. 2-0 to Webster's. Eastbank then had a good chance to reduce the deficit but skied the ball over the bar to the keeper's relief. Just before halftime Webster's had a chance for a third but the shot went narrowly over the bar.
Halftime : Webster's HS 2 Eastbank Ac. 0
If Eastbank had struggled to get into the game in the first half, they more than made up for it right after the interval. Three minutes in Nikita Glass finished off a long ball through the middle to make it 2-1. Two minutes later a similar move saw Nikita Glass score her second to equalise at 2-2, Webster's were reeling. Eastbank could not get ahead however and Webster's were able to regain their composure. Neither side dominated in an even contest but Webster's came closest with a ball from the left across the front of the goal. Eastbank replied with a corner which Webster's just managed to clear off the line at the far post. With only nine minutes left the winner came when Webster's broke down the left and sent in a cross towards the penalty spot - Louise Falconer turned on the ball and tucked it away into the corner just inside the far post, no chance for the Eastbank keeper. Webster's had a few scares to survive in the latter stages, as Eastbank finished on the attack, trying all-out to get an equaliser to take the game to penalties. The last chance for Eastbank was a dangerous corner to the far post but the Webster's keeper held on, the final whistle went - the cue for a good-natured crowd invasion.
Final score : Webster's HS 3 Eastbank Ac. 2
Eventually both teams climbed the steps to receive their medals from SSFA President, Ronnie Hamilton, who presented the Girls U15 Shield to Webster's who keep the shield in Angus following on from Arbroath High's success last year.

HARRIS CELEBRATE THEIR LAST-MINUTE WINNER IN THE U13 LOGIE CUP SEMIFINAL
The two teams had played early on in the season when Menzieshill finished 9-1 winners. Harris seemed to have even more of a disadvantage as they played the whole game with only 10 players but they attacked well down the slope at Eton Street and led 3-0 at the break.
Halftime : Harris 3 Menzieshill 0
Menzieshill had most of the pressure down the slope in the 2nd half but Harris denied them till 10 minutes from time when Menzieshill scored three in quick succession to equalise. Harris found their second wind in the last few minutes and scored the winner up the slope with time running out.
Final score : Harris 4 Menzieshill 3
GROVE U16s REACH TANNADICE WITH A 4-3 WIN IN SEMIFINAL DERBY CLASSIC
Fri 23 Apr - A chilly wet day but the game between Monifieth and Grove in the U16 Dundee United Cup Semifinal, sponsored by Arab Trust, was really hot stuff. Earlier in the season Monifieth and Grove had already played out a 3-3 draw in the league so it was expected to be close.

Grove went ahead in the first minute with a break down the left and a cool finish from 6 yards out. It was 2-0 in the 6th minute with another fast run down the left and a cross along the goal line tapped in at the far post. In the 11th minute a Grove free kick from their own half beat the centre of the Monifieth defence and Grove dinked the ball over the keeper from just inside the box.
GROVE (WHITE) GO 2 UP IN THE U16 DUNDEE UNITED CUP SEMIFINAL ....
So after 11 minutes with Grove leading 3-0 it looked all over, but not in a derby with a place at Tannadice at stake....
Monifieth scored a peach in the 15th minute with a shot on the turn from just outside the box on the left which flew over the keeper's head and dropped in by the far post - a candidate for goal of the season. 3-1 and Monifieth were back in it. The game was end to end but the goals dried up until the 37th minute when Grove broke down the middle, held off a defender and finished calmly from 15 yards.
Halftime : Monifieth 1 Grove 4.
The second half was also full of commitment from both sides. On the hour mark all hell broke loose. Grove were adjudged to have passed back to the keeper inside the box, the free kick was taken twice and in the resulting stramash a penalty was awarded for handball. Monifieth scored to pull it back to 4-2.

GROVE TAKE THE POINTS IN 12 GOAL SEASON OPENER
Tues 8 Sept - Grove beat Baldragon 7-5 away in the first game of the season, played in the Dee 4 Life U14 League. Baldragon pressed hard for the opener against last year's U13 champions but it was Grove who took the lead against the run of play 0-1 (14 mins). Straight from the kick-off Baldragon should have equalised with a strong run through the centre of defence but hit the post. Grove made the home side pay for their miss by firing in a great shot 0-2 (17). Baldragon pulled one back with a free kick from the touchline which curled onto the far post and in, 1-2 (23), then shot from 12 yards for the equaliser, 2-2 (30). A minute later Grove scored from the penalty spot 2-3 (31), and just before halftime hit a cracker into the top corner, 2-4 (33).
Baldragon fought back well into the strong wind and pulled one back, 3-4 (48), but Grove restored their two goal advantage shortly after, 3-5 (51). Both sides traded goals five minutes later, 4-5 (56) and 4-6 (57), then Baldragon missed a great chance when the Grove keeper saved a penalty.
Grove extended their lead with a few minutes left, 4-7 (67) and Baldragon finished the scoring just before full time, 5-7 (69).
So Grove won a great game 7-5 ...... strange that last year's U14s (different players of course) also played out a 7-5, when Baldragon beat Grove in the cup. Looking forward to the next Baldragon v. Grove game if we are guaranteed the same scoreline!!!

HARRIS OPEN THE SCORING IN THE SECOND MINUTE
However the lead only lasted a minute as Grove went up the right, drew the keeper and netted from an acute angle, three minutes gone and 1-1. Grove had more of the ball in the first half with most of the play taking place between the halfway line and the Harris penalty area but Harris were defending well and were dangerous on the break with a good attempt which struck the bar. In the 23rd minute Harris broke quickly and a Grove defender handled the ball just inside the box. Harris netted the penalty to go 2-1 up. Once again the lead lasted barely a minute before it was all level again - Harris failed to clear properly and Grove hit a ball which bounced in front of the keeper then over his head.

GROVE (BLUE) v. HARRIS (MAROON) IN THE U13 LOGIE CUP FINAL
Ten minutes into the second half Grove took the lead for the first time with a cracking left-foot shot from the edge of the box across the keeper into the corner of the net, 3-2 Grove. Harris hit back with a cross from the left to the far post but the well-hit shot was saved by the keeper. In the last ten minutes Grove had a fantastic double chance which Harris managed to survive - a shot from left of centre hit the right-hand post and bounced out and when the ball was sent back in high over the keeper it hit the bar and left-hand post before it was cleared. A couple of minutes from time Harris broke twice down the left to the bye-line but the Grove defence were able to deal with the crosses and the danger was cleared. Any hopes of a Harris equaliser were dashed in the last minute when another Grove attack led to the clinching goal.
The final whistle went soon after, and Grove had completed a league and cup double, but well done to Harris who ran them close in a very sporting and entertaining contest.

U16 DUNDEE UNITED CUP FINAL, sponsored by ARAB TRUST - Tannadice - Mon 10 May, 6.00 ST.JOHN'S 4 GROVE 1
St.John's met Grove in the U16 Dundee United Cup Final, sponsored by Arab Trust, at Tannadice. Grove had not won the trophy since 1959 and St.John's last lifted the cup in 1992. Both sides had overcome difficult opponents in the semifinals, St.John's coming from behind to beat Morgan 4-2 and Grove winning 4-3 against Monifieth.
St.John's in sky blue and navy got off to the perfect start against the all-whites of Grove with a goal in the 2nd minute from 6 yards out. Grove knew all about whirlwind starts from their semifinal against Monifieth where they led 3-0 after 11 minutes. But this time they were on the receiving end as St.John's doubled the lead in the 11th minute. The Grove keeper raced out to the edge of the box to collect a ball being shepherded back by a defender, however St.John's took advantage of the defensive dithering and lofted the ball into the empty net for a 2-0 lead. In the 22nd minute St.John's had a 30-yard strike saved low down at the keeper's left hand post. A minute later St.John's forced the Grove keeper into another save but the ball was only parried to the feet of a St.John's forward who netted the rebound for 3-0.
Halftime : St.John's 3 Grove 0
A shower of halftime hailstones delayed the restart a little. Grove managed to reduce the deficit in the 50th minute when a good cross from the right was headed strongly past the keeper's left hand from 8 yards out. Grove were only 3-1 down now. St.John's attacked towards the East Stand and won a corner on the right in the 56th minute. When the corner was struck into the box St.John's sent a looping header from 12 yards over the keeper's head and just under the bar into the net. St.John's were now 4-1 ahead. Grove tried to get back into the game but St.John's gave them few chances. Three minutes from time St.John's thought they had scored again but the goal was chalked off. The final whistle went soon after and St.John's could celebrate.

ST.PAUL'S (GREEN) HEADING FOR THEIR FIRST TROPHY IN THE U16 CAIRA TROPHY FINAL v. MONIFIETH
St.Paul's added three more goals every five minutes after the break to go 5-0 up and secure the victory. It could have been 6 but they shot a penalty wide of the left post. Monifieth had a number of chances but had no luck and St.Paul's came back at them. With 7 minutes left St.Paul's hit a ferocious drive from 25 yards which crashed back off the bar which is probably still shaking. A minute later St.Paul's added a 6th to wrap up the win. With four minutes on the clock it looked like Monifieth would get the consolation goal they deserved when they were awarded a penalty - but the kick hit the left post and bounced across the front of the goal and away to safety. So both sides missed a 2nd half penalty but nobody could fault the commitment from all the players in a hard-fought but fair contest.
St.Paul's picked up their first ever trophy so it will definitely be a new name on the cup.

MENZIESHILL WITH THE U17 GRANT TROPHY AFTER A TREMENDOUS TWELVE-GOAL THRILLER
SENIOR JOHNSTON TROPHY FINAL - Tannadice - Mon 10 May, 8.00 BALDRAGON 6 MONIFIETH 4
One of the best schools' finals in recent times which had everything - skill, drama, goals, saves, cards, penalties.
This was a game you could not take your eyes off, wonderful entertainment from start to finish.
The teams had met earlier in the league when Monifieth had won 5-1. However Baldragon had won the league the week before and were hoping to complete the double and put their name on the Johnston Trophy for the first time.
But it was Monifieth in red and black kicking towards the East Stand who could have opened the scoring in the 5th minute when a good move ended in a header which struck the base of the post and away for a goal-kick. In the 16th minute a lack of communication in the Baldragon defence gave Monifieth a goal start - it seemed a simple back header from 20 yards to the keeper.....but the keeper was at the edge of his box and had to race back in an attempt to clear. The ball rolled agonisingly for Baldragon over the line and the keeper got himself tangled up in the net. Baldragon 0 Monifieth 1 (16). Monifieth were soon even further ahead, winning the ball out on the left 30 yards out and racing towards the goal, outpacing the defence and slipping the ball past the keeper from 8 yards. Baldragon 0 Monifieth 2 (19).

CARNOUSTIE WIN LEAGUE
Congratulations to Carnoustie HS on winning the first Angus Bank of Scotland Soccer One League. Having completed their fixtures at the start of June they had to wait for other results to come in. The only teams who could challenge them, Arbroath High and Monifieth, had to stay undefeated in their last games but Webster's beat them both in the space of three days so the Championship Trophy heads to Carnoustie.
Carnoustie started their campaign slowly, losing at home to a penalty against Montrose. In their next match they travelled to Monifieth and picked up a hard-earned point in a classic 4-4 draw - with only 12 minutes left Carnoustie were 4-1 down but a tremendous late surge saw them score three times to equalise as darkness descended. So after two games they had just one point and were near the bottom. After that Carnoustie produced a series of victories against Arbroath High, Brechin and a narrow 2-1 win against Webster's to go top of the table. Their last match against Arbroath Academy was another close encounter ending in a 3-2 win, but the Academy made them fret till the final whistle in their attempts to grab an equaliser.
The reds were probably relieved to hold on to the points then, but there will be dancing in Shanwell Road now.

ARBROATH HIGH (YELLOW / GREEN) ON THE ATTACK AGAINST MONIFIETH (SKY)
Monifieth struggled a little at the start of the second half with a couple of injuries but to their credit came back into the game and benefited in the 43rd minute from a short backpass, took the ball wide of the keeper and shot into the empty net for 4-1. As the final whistle approached Arbroath High capped a fine performance with an excellent solo goal, picking up the ball outside the box, waltzing past a couple of defenders before rifling a shot high into the top left corner. It was fitting that a quality goal brought down the curtain on an excellent season for the league, and that the commitment and skill from all teams went down to the wire.
Final score : Arbroath High 5 Monifieth 1

ACTION FROM THE FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON - ARBROATH HIGH (YELLOW) v. MONIFIETH (SKY)
Mon 14 June - Webster's beat Arbroath Academy 6-0 in Arbroath as both teams finished off their season in the battle for second place. The visitors looked dangerous on the break and the Academy keeper pulled off a great save in the 15th minute, pushing the ball onto the post. Then Webster's had another shot which hit the bar and bounced away. Another quick break from Webster's forced the Academy keeper into a good save, but eventually the same tactic was to prove decisive and Webster's went 1-0 up in the 23rd minute with a firm shot past the keeper. Not long after they doubled their lead when a corner fell to a Webster's player outside the box and he looped the ball over the keeper.

ARBROATH ACADEMY (YELLOW BIBS) v. WEBSTER'S (NAVY) IN THE LAST GAME FOR BOTH TEAMS
The result was put beyond doubt right after the interval when Webster's ran through the centre of the defence to make it 3-0. Ten minutes later another burst from the left and it was 4-0. As the game entered the last quarter a quick Webster's break down the left set up a chance near the penalty spot but the keeper pushed the ball away - however the rebound fell to a Webster's player who rifled home for 5-0. The Academy's best attempt came near the end with a good shot which the Webster's keeper saved at the post. In the last minute Webster's pace told again, another break, another goal.
Final score : Arbroath Ac. 0 Webster's 6
So Webster's leapfrog over the Academy into second place, just a point behind Carnoustie.
Wed 9 June - Carnoustie wrapped up the title without even kicking a ball, as Webster's beat Monifieth 4-0. When Carnoustie beat Arbroath Academy 3-2 last week in their final match, it put the title beyond several teams including Webster's but the Kirriemuir team still had a big part to play. At the start of the week only Arbroath High and Monifieth were able to catch Carnoustie and both teams had to play Webster's and win to keep in the hunt. Webster's beat Arbroath High 3-2 on Monday to dash their hopes so it meant Monifieth had to win their last two games to force a play-off.
The game in Kirrie started very even and both sides had chances but with 10 minutes gone Webster's shot from the right across the keeper for 1-0. There was not much between the teams but there were no more goals in the first half.

WEBSTER'S (NAVY) GET A HEAD TO THE BALL v. MONIFIETH (SKY)
Thur 3 June - Cracking entertainment at Carnoustie where the home team beat Arbroath Academy 3-2 with the result in doubt till the final whistle.
Both teams started brightly on a warm sunny day, Arbroath Academy looked dangerous on the attack but it was Carnoustie who took the lead in the 4th minute when a tremendous 25 yard shot from the left pinged off the foot of the far post and rebounded straight into the path of a Carnoustie player to slot home from 6 yards.
Arbroath Academy fought their way back into the game and created several chances which Carnoustie defended well. The most spectacular attempt came midway through the half when a cross from the left was hit superbly on the volley but the fierce shot just went inches over the Carnoustie bar. The 2nd quarter was dominated by the Academy but they could not make the pressure pay and in 28 minutes Carnoustie nearly went further ahead when the Academy keeper could not collect a ball properly on the 6 yard line and there was a heart-stopping moment as he saw the ball creep agonisingly towards the goal while he tried to scramble back - he made it just in time to scoop the ball off the line and away from danger.

CARNOUSTIE (RED) v. ARBROATH ACADEMY (BLACK)
The second half was barely two minutes old when Carnoustie waltzed through the defence and finished for 2-0. A minute later Carnoustie had another shot from distance strike the post but the rebound did not fall so kindly this time. Five minutes later the Academy were back in it when a right-foot shot from 10 yards out beat the Carnoustie keeper : 2-1 to Carnoustie. Carnoustie went back on the attack and a minute later hit the bar and from the rebound forced a good save from the Academy keeper who pushed it away for a corner. But the respite was only temporary and Carnoustie volleyed in to regain their 2 goal lead : 3-1 to Carnoustie with 10 minutes gone in the 2nd half.
Ten minutes later the Academy curled an inswinging corner directly onto the far post and the ball was cleared, but a minute later another corner, shorter this time, created panic on the line and the ball was bundled in from close range. 3-2 to Carnoustie now. The game raged from end to end and close to the final whistle the Academy mounted a last siege on the Carnoustie goal but, despite valiant attempts to net an equaliser, the chances did not fall properly and Carnoustie were able to see out the dying minutes to hold on to three precious points.
Final score : Carnoustie 3 Arbroath Ac. 2

Wed 27 Jan - Monifieth notched up their first victory with a 14-2 win away to Brechin, getting off to a perfect start with a goal in the 2nd minute. Brechin won a free kick in the 4th minute which led to an equaliser for the home team. But Monifieth did not let this setback upset them and they scored at regular intervals to lead 7-1 at the halftime whistle.
The second half continued in similar vein with Monifieth applying the pressure and Brechin doing their best to defend. The last school bell of the day went and a good crowd poured on to the sidelines to watch the second half. Monifieth added seven more goals to lead 14-1 near the end, and could have scored more but for heroics from the Brechin keeper. With a little more luck Brechin could have pulled a few goals back as they always looked dangerous on the break. But the patience of the crowd was rewarded in the last minute with one of the best goals of the day as Brechin worked the ball down the left and finished coolly past the keeper. So while Monifieth returned home with the points, the Brechin fans went home happy that they had seen their team's efforts crowned with a great goal.
Thur 12 Nov - Monifieth and Carnoustie fought out a 4-4 draw in a fantastic second half. Carnoustie had the strong wind at their backs in the first half, but neither side created many chances till 5 minutes from halftime when Monifieth struggled to clear a corner and Carnoustie tapped the ball in from close range. Both sides had a good chance to score after that but at halftime it was 0-1.
The second half was highly entertaining with seven goals. Monifieth equalised two minutes in with a powerful header from a corner on the right, 1-1 (32) Six minutes later Monifieth took the lead with a lob which sailed in at the far post., 2-1 (38). Monifieth took advantage of the strong wind to go further ahead, first with a 25 yard shot into the top corner, 3-1 (42), then with a header from 6 yards, 4-1 (48).
So with 12 minutes left the game looked all over but nobody had told Carnoustie. A minute after going 4-1 down Carnoustie burst through the middle and fired home a shot from just inside the box, 4-2 (49). Soon after that Carnoustie had a free kick on the edge of the box which dipped viciously and the keeper did well to turn it away for a corner.....however the corner was so well hit that the keeper could do nothing but help it in, 4-3 (53). It was now almost dark and the rain had started, but this did not bother the players. Carnoustie now with their tails up scored a superb equaliser with two minutes to go - a solo run from the halfway line with a great check back inside at the edge of the box and a left foot finish under the keeper, 4-4 (58). Monifieth had a couple of chances after that to win it, and just before the full-time whistle had a long-range effort well saved by the Carnoustie keeper.
Superb entertainment for the fans with both teams earning their first point.

Montrose pressed and scored twice to equalise before halftime, one being a lovely strike from outside the box. Halftime 2-2.
After the restart Montrose were the better team but could not find the net due to the organised Arbroath back four of Rory Sutherland, Jamie Falconer, Hendry O'Neil and Daniel Brown. The balance of play shifted and Arbroath began to move the ball with confidence, and eventually took the lead again through Matthew Fraser. With ten minutes to go Montrose lost two quick goals with Andrew Jarvie hitting the top corner and Matthew Fraser getting his hat-trick. A good win for Arbroath HS who travel to Carnoustie next, while Montrose are home to Webster's on the 25th.

Goals in the 11th and 19th minutes put Webster's 2-0 up, and it could have been three shortly after when a Brechin defender handled in the box but the penalty went wide of the post.
In the 2nd half Brechin had a glorious chance to pull one back with a break from the halfway line but they delayed the shot once they got into the box and the chance had gone. The Brechin keeper performed superbly to keep the Webster's strikers at bay until 10 minutes from time, when Webster's made it 3-0. As darkness descended Webster's scored three more in quick succession and added a 7th on the final whistle.

Carnoustie put a lot of pressure onto Montrose in the final minutes but the penalty at the end of the 1st half proved to be the only goal of the game.
Final score : Carnoustie 0 Montrose 1

Thur 5 Nov - Arbroath HS beat Montrose Ac. 5-2 in a good match to go top of the table on Bonfire Night.. The home team went 2-0 up midway through the 1st half with two wonder goals (a Findlay Ross volley and long range effort from Matthew Fraser finding the top corner).
Mon 26 Oct - Webster's opened their Angus Bank of Scotland Soccer One League account with a 7-0 win over Brechin. The home side dominated in the early stages but Brechin defended well.
Wed 30 Sept - Carnoustie lost 1-0 at home to Montrose in the Angus Bank of Scotland Soccer One League. Montrose started the stronger but Carnoustie soon fought their way into the game. Midway through the first half Montrose hit the bar and the ball bounced down into the keeper's arms. Carnoustie also hit the bar but the ball bounced over for a goal kick. In the last minute of the 1st half Carnoustie gave away a penalty with a foul in the box and Montrose scored to go 1-0 up.
In the 2nd half chances were few and far between. Both sides tried hard to get the better of their opponents but the keepers were not to be beaten and the two defences stood firm. Carnoustie put a lot of pressure onto Montrose in the final minutes but the penalty at the end of the 1st half proved to be the only goal of the game.
