24 May - LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS
With news from the government that schools will not return until August the League Champions for season 19-20 are as follows :
DSA Arab Trust Small Schools League : St.Ninian's PS
DSA Arab Trust Section A : St.Andrew's PS
Arab Trust DSA Section C : Ancrum Road PS
Arab Trust DSA Section D : Craigowl PS
DSA U13 League : Monifieth HS
DSA U14 League : Monifieth HS
Arab Trust U15 League : Harris Ac.
Arab Trust U16 League : Baldragon Ac. and St.Paul's Ac. (shared)
DSA Arab Trust Senior League : Grove Ac.
Where any of the above teams were level on points with another team the head-to-head results were decisive. In those cases the teams winning the head-to-head games had also had one game postponed which had still to be rearranged.
In the U16s the league is shared as both teams had the same record and the head-to-head result was a draw.
With no Champions League games being played at all in Secondary at 13th March the champions have come from the Qualifying Leagues.
As P7 pupils will move to their new Secondary schools in August sadly the Primary Cups will go no further. Whether anything can be done for some of the Secondary Cups after the summer remains to be seen but it seems unlikely at best.
The Winners pages are now all updated.

10 May - SUPERB PHOTO OF EASTERN WITH THE DUNDEE UNITED CUP IN 1925
Above is the photo of the Eastern team who won the first ever Dundee United Cup in season 1924-25. The photo is courtesy of John M Knight whose father John Findlay Knight was in the team and is seated 4th from left in the front row. With no football happening anywhere just now, we are grateful to John M Knight for supplying the photo from almost a century ago to remind us of what a cup looks like.
5 May - SAD NEWS
As you may have seen in the Evening Telegraph yesterday, Dave Beattie passed away suddenly last week.
Dave Beattie started teaching at Craigie HS in the late 70s and spent most of his career in the PE Department at Morgan Academy. He served on the DSFA Committee for many years and, along with Bill Ferrier, took the Senior Select team which reached the National Final in 1983, losing to Aberdeen 1-0 at Arbroath Vics, with a team which included Craig Brewster, John Young (Harris), Colin Blackley (Lawside) and Grant Millar (Monifieth). He then was manager when Dundee won in 1990 when SSFA caps Christian Dailly (Harris), Bobby Mann (Rockwell) and Andy McCafferty (St.Saviour's) were in the team.
Dave was the Football Rep at Morgan Academy until 2010 before retiring. His untimely death is a shock to all who knew him, particularly at a time which is already difficult for everybody with covid-19.
Adding to the sadness, the current lockdown restrictions mean that those who would have wanted to attend his funeral will not be able to.
DSFA would like to pass on its condolences to Dave's family and friends at this very sad time.
SWEDISH LAPLAND
There are plenty of other football photo sets from earlier in the year which have still to be posted and they are being worked on just now.
(Update July - All now done.)
While we still wait for normality to return, if it ever does, there are plenty of non-football photos available on the Sweden March 20 page.
The short slideshow below is a selection of a week in March in the North of Sweden just before the lockdown started and life changed for everybody. Click on any photo to take you through to the page or click the link above or at the top of the page.
With Sweden following a different path from most other countries re the virus, the current chaos here was not replicated there.
High schools and universities were closed there in the 3rd week of March but other schools were kept open as life tried to go on normally.
While a few more restrictions have been imposed recently, only time will tell whether the Swedish way worked better than other countries where the economy may have been shattered by severe lockdowns. Stay safe, everybody. Lycka till.

1st April - This is the first April Fools Days which seems to have gone by unnoticed because of the challenging times we now find ourselves in.
We are now theoretically into the school holidays, although the pandemic and its resulting restrictions may well mean that the season is now over. We can now only wait to see how things develop. Once we see what decisions are eventually taken by governments, councils and football authorities, we can decide how to progress and see what conclusions we can come to regarding Season 19-20. In the meantime it is hoped that everybody stays safe.

Here are photos from Arctic Norway with a few from Sweden at the start and finish.
They include pictures of any football pitches seen, large or small. How much the pitches are used is hard to say - given that the dark and cold of an Arctic winter mean summer football is the only real possibility. (Refresh the page to take you to the beginning of each set.)

There are another couple of sets of Arctic Norway at the foot of the page with no football and no reindeer - just the road trip from Alta to Tromsø, then in and around Tromsø followed by the trip through Senja, the Vesterålen and Steigen.

Wednesday 13th May - Provisional date for 2nd Round of Primary Select games in Glasgow
The picture we've all been waiting for - never mind the team photos, the action shots, pictures in and around Dundee or reindeer thousands of miles away - without our sponsors we would not enjoy the level of football we are now familiar with. Last season the photo was up at North East Campus, this season it is at Tayview. So here it is ....
SPONSORS AT TAYVIEW PS - Our League sponsors went west this year to meet Primary League Secretary Gerry Dignan and players from Tayview PS and St.Ninian's PS.
There was good support in the run up to Christmas from Matt Edwards, Jim Douglas and Davie Craig from DSA and Sue Batten from Arab Trust who were delighted to visit Menzieshill, meet the players from Tayview and St.Ninian's and renew their sponsorship for this season. Once again Dundee Schools' Football Association is indebted to both DSA and Arab Trust for their commitment to help and support us.

St.Mary's beat Claypotts Castle 2-1 in the Junior Sports Cup 2nd Round and are now away to Craigowl.
St.Andrew's beat SS Peter & Paul 5-1 in the Cameron Cup 1st Round and now play away to Clepington in the semifinal. St.Andrew's took an early 3-goal lead but SS Peter & Paul scored a fine goal before halftime. St.Andrew's scored twice in the second half to progress.
Harris beat St.Paul's 4-1 in the U13 Logie Cup 1st Round (sponsored by DSA) and play away to St.John's or Baldragon in the semifinal. Harris opened the scoring at Elliot Road after the ball came back off the bar but St.Paul's equalised soon after. In the second half Harris scored three without reply going up the hill. See photos.
Wednesday 11th March
St.John's beat Baldragon 6-0 in the Arab Trust U15 League with four goals in the first half. See photos.
Tuesday 10th March
St.Mary's beat Rowantree 3-0 in DSA Arab Trust Section A.
Craigowl beat Tayview 6-1 in Arab Trust DSA Section D.
St.Francis beat Barnhill 4-2 in the Burgess Cup 1st Round and play Eastern in the semifinal. Barnhill scored the first two but St.Francis pulled one back to trail 2-1 at the interval. St.Francis took their goals well in the second half but the best moment was a tremendous triple save from the St.Francis keeper with two blocks and a tip onto the bar within a second or two. See photos.
Monifieth beat Harris 4-2 in the DSA U13 League. Monifieth opened the scoring but Harris turned it round at the start of the second half with two goals, only for Monifieth to score three in the last 11 minutes.
Harris beat St.John's 2-1 in the U16 Robert Caira Memorial Trophy 1st Round (sponsored by DSA) and play Grove in the semifinal. St.John's scored near halftime after hitting the post a couple of times and missing other chances, but Harris equalised shortly after the break and scored the winner in the later stages of the game. See photos.
Monday 9th March
Grove beat St.John's 3-1 in the Arab Trust U15 League. Grove scored twice on the break in the first half and the hat-trick was completed with another fast break in the second half before St.John's hit a fierce 20-yarder after a corner. See photos.
Harris beat Morgan 4-2 in the DSA Arab Trust Senior League. Harris led 3-0 at halftime then Morgan hit back with two goals. As a wayward Harris passback hit a post, the Harris defence immediately conceded a penalty but Morgan missed out on an equaliser when the sub keeper cleared the shot with his feet. About ten minutes later a great pass sent Harris away for a fourth goal, and though the fierce shot was parried by the Morgan keeper it was Harris first to the rebound to score. A wet afternoon at DISC but an enjoyable game. See photos.
Friday 6th March
St.John's and Harris drew 2-2 in the Arab Trust U16 League. Harris scored right after halftime but St.John's came back to lead 2-1 before Harris equalised 13 minutes from the end. Harris now qualifiy for the Champions League.
Scotland and Northern Ireland drew 1-1 in the U18 Centenary Shield International at Renfrew FC. Both goals fell in the first 10 minutes, the Irish scoring first and the Scots equalising. Josh McConville played the first half and Ryan Arnott came on for the last 10 minutes when the Irish were having to play with 10 men. See a few photos.
Thursday 5th March
St.Pius beat Dens Road 4-2 in the DSA Arab Trust Small Schools League.
Longhaugh beat Mill of Mains 5-4 in DSA Arab Trust Section A. Longhaugh led 4-0 but Mill of Mains pulled it back to 4-4 before Longhaugh scored a late winner.
Monifieth beat St.Paul's 9-0 while Grove beat St.John's 2-1 in the DSA U13 League.
Harris beat Grove 3-0 in the Arab Trust U15 League. Harris scored three in the first half to finish the Qualifying League with full points.
See photos.
Wednesday 4th March
Ancrum Road beat SS Peter & Paul 6-1 while Craigiebarns beat St.Francis 4-1 in Arab Trust DSA Section C.
Eastern beat St.Ninian's 9-4 in the Junior Sports Cup 2nd Round and now play home to Ancrum Road or Barnhill.
Dundee beat North of Scotland 3-2 in the U15 National Trophy Semifinal at RPC in Caird Park. In the final Dundee will play Forth Valley who beat Aberdeen 5-1 today in Alloa. Dundee took the lead in 6 minutes when Ryan McInnes hit the left post and Ross Clark knocked in the rebound, 1-0. Joy was short-lived as North equalised a minute later from a corner, 1-1 (7m). Dundee went back in front after a penalty was awarded for a push in the back - Stuart Heenan netted from the spot, 2-1 (21m). In the second half North dominated the early part and levelled again for 2-2 (53m). As the game wore on Dundee gained their second win and several substitutions were made in an attempt to avoid the inevitable lottery of a penalty shoot-out. After several attempts just wide of the target it was Stuart Heenan who secured the win with a great goal, winning a challenge on the left wing, drifting in through several defenders into the box and firing in a low shot from 16 yards past the keeper for the late winner, 3-2 (77m). Not the easiest of games against a good North of Scotland team but a National Trophy semifinal is not going to be easy, and Dundee can look forward to a final for the first time since 2014. The best of the photos are in the slideshow near the top of the page. See photos of the full match.
Baldragon beat St.John's 4-1 in the Arab Trust U16 League. Baldragon led 2-0 at the break but St.John's pulled one back at the start of the second half. Thoughts of a comeback were dashed by two more goals from Baldragon. See photos.
Harris and Monifieth drew 2-2 in the DSA Arab Trust Senior League. Monifieth led 1-0 at halftime then Harris went 2-1 in front before Monifieth
equalised in the last few minutes.
Tuesday 3rd March
Dundee Primary Select finished 4th out of 6 in the Glasgow Invitational Sevens. In a good tournament at Toryglen the home Association Glasgow won the day just ahead of East Ayrshire with Hamilton 3rd. Dundee finished ahead of South Ayrshire and Perth & Kinross. In the second half Grove had more possession and were quick on the break so it was no surprise that a fine finish put them in front again midway through the half. St.John's had a lot of pressure late in the game as they looked for an equaliser but Grove defended well and time ran out. See photos.

In the later game St.John's moved into a 2-0 lead over Harris but then lost their keeper for handling the ball outside the box when Harris attacked. Banff Ac. beat Grove 9-0 in the Senior Girls Shield 3rd Round. Despite the sunny conditions in Banff an extremely strong wind in the first half threatened to wreck the game, as goal kicks were regularly taken with the ball moving and throw-ins frequently didn't reach the park. The Banff girls had the wind behind them in the first half and made it 2-0 right on halftime. Grove had defended well in the first half and 1-0 might have been fairer. However a halftime substitution for Banff made a great difference and the strong Banff midfield played well into the wind, so Grove hopes of making progress soon disappeared, with a 9th goal going in on the final whistle. St.Joseph's and St.Francis drew 5-5 in Arab Trust DSA Section C. It was the only game today but even if there had been half a dozen games around the city, this would have been the Game of the Day. Superb end-to-end action for 50 minutes at North East Campus with the lead changing hands more than once. St.Francis opened the scoring but St.Joseph's soon got their game together and turned it round to lead 2-1 but St.Francis fought back to level it up at 2-2 by the break. Into the second half it was St.Francis who regained the lead for 3-2 but a great header from a corner followed quickly by another strike put St.Joseph's ahead again at 4-3. St.Francis equalised again for 4-4 but St.Joseph's looked like they might win with a 5th goal. With a couple of minutes left it was all level again as St.Francis made it 5-5. Time ran out for any more goals so the honours were shared. A good crowd braved the sometimes strong chilly crosswind but would have been warmed up by the football served up by both teams. Well done to both teams. See photos.

Dundee beat Lanarkshire 5-3 in the U15 National Trophy Quarterfinal. With the Storm Brendan winds forecast to be around 40 or 45 mph both sides served up a good competitive game. Stuart Heenan smashed in a free kick from the edge of the box in the 17th minute to set Dundee on their way. Four minutes later Bailey Pert sent through a pass on the right for Stuart Heenan to hit across the keeper into the far corner for 2-0. In the 32nd minute Lewis Lorimer hit home a left-foot shot from 25 yards inside the left post to make it 3-0. The next minute nearly let Lanarkshire in but keeper Luca Ferguson tipped the goalbound shot onto the bar - a fantastic save! Stuart Heenan completed his hat-trick in the 36th minute with a 12-yard strike to give Dundee a 4-0 lead at the break. Now for the game into the wind - 15 minutes after the interval Lanarkshire pulled one back for 4-1. With a couple of minutes left a cross from the Lanarkshire right seemed to have been cleared off the line but it was adjudged to have crossed the line so 4-2. In the first minute of time added on a Dundee defensive misunderstanding not helped by the now stormy wind gave Lanarkshire a 3rd goal to create waves of nerves on the touchline. 90 seconds later Craig Moore sent Stuart Heenan clear on the left who fired across the keeper for the first goal into the wind, his own fourth and the clincher for Dundee to win 5-3. Lanarkshire just had time to restart before the final whistle sounded and the teams shook hands. Dundee now have a home tie in the semifinal before the end of February against the winner of North of Scotland and Paisley. Lots of good performances today which were needed against a strong Lanarkshire team and a very strong wind. The squad : Luca Ferguson (Braeview), Lewis Boylen, Morgan Garden, Finlay Lyttle, Lucas McKimmie, Bailey Pert, Fergus Scott (Grove), Lewis Lorimer, Josh McGuire (Harris), James Barclay, Ross Clark, Brodie Cussick, Arron Donald, Stuart Heenan, Craig Moore (St.John's), Blair Fyffe, Sam Ogilvie (St.Paul's) - still out but hopefully back soon : Ryan McInnes (Harris) and Jeffrey Addai-Peprah.

With no further goals it was on to penalties - Grove had their first kick saved but Gregor Tweed saved Levenmouth's second, so after two penalties each it was 1-1. Dundee beat Edinburgh 5-2 in the U15 National Trophy to win Group 2. Dundee needed to avoid a big defeat at Baldragon and Edinburgh started at a fast pace. Having weathered the early storm Dundee won a corner on the left and Stuart Heenan struck a left-foot shot from 15 yards into the top right corner, 1-0 (15m). Six minutes later another corner on the left from Sam Ogilvie was finished at the near post by Craig Moore, 2-0 (21m). However Edinburgh pulled one back immediately, 2-1 (22m). The referee played a good advantage after a sandwich on the halfway line ... meanwhile Sam Ogilvie was running clear up the left and Stuart Heenan netted his cross at the far post from 6 yards, 3-1 (30m). Again a defensive lapse let Edinburgh in to make it 3-2, (36m). Seven minutes after hafltime Josh McGuire picked up a quick Stuart Heenan throw and made straight for goal to fire a low shot past the keeper, 4-2 (47m). After a few good chances at the near post Dundee increased the lead with a Craig Moore pass from the right 6 yards out finding Josh McGuire in the centre to tap home for 5-2 (58m). The subs got on for a run and contributed to a good all-round performance. The Edinburgh sub keeper played well and stopped any further chances. So Dundee finish 1st with 9 points, Fife 2nd with 6 points while a good Edinburgh team finish 3rd with 3 points. Dundee play home to Group 3 runner-up Lanarkshire in the quarterfinal while Fife travel to Forth Valley.
With outstanding performances from (not mentioned so far) Lewis Boylen, Morgan Garden, Lewis Lorimer, Ross Clark and Brodie Cussick added to those involved in the goals, it would be difficult to name a man of the match. With a few unable to attend today and a couple of longer-term injuries hopefully on the comeback trail we can look forward with enthusiasm to the quarterfinal with Lanarkshire.
The squad today : Lewis Boylen, Morgan Garden, Finlay Lyttle, Fergus Scott (Grove), Lewis Lorimer, Josh McGuire (Harris), Ross Clark, Brodie Cussick, Arron Donald, Stuart Heenan, Craig Moore (St.John's), Blair Fyffe, Sam Ogilvie (St.Paul's). See photos.

Dundee beat Fife 5-3 in the U15 National Trophy. On a miserable wet day at East Fife Dundee struggled to get into the game early on and Fife led 1-0 from the 8th minute. Five minutes from the break Dundee turned it around with 2 goals in just over a minute. First great work by Craig Moore set up Stuart Heenan on the right and his cross was touched in by Ross Clark coming in at the far post. A minute later Stuart Heenan provided the assist for Josh McGuire to make it 2-1 for Dundee at the break. Fife hit back to equalise early in the second half but ten minutes later Dundee regained the lead again through Josh McGuire. The always-willing Stuart Heenan got his deserved goal to put Dundee 4-2 up. With a few minutes left Luca Ferguson produced a great double-save but Fife netted for 3-4. With all the subs getting on and Sam Ogilvie looking impressive on the left it was little surprise that Dundee regained their 2-goal advantage when Brodie Cussick finished from close range in the last minute. Dundee play Edinburgh in the last game at home next Wednesday and barring some miraculous results should have a place in the quarterfinals after Christmas. See photos.
