SECONDARY 13-14
SECONDARY CHAMPIONS - GROVE U13, MONIFIETH U14, ST.JOHN'S U15, ST.JOHN'S U16, MENZIESHILL SENIOR
Wed 25 June - With time running out on the season Menzieshill won the Arab Trust DFCSS Senior Champions League when Monifieth lost to Morgan. In a topsy-turvy end to the season where results could just not be predicted Monifieth needed to win the last game against Morgan but went down 6-0.
Tues 24 June - After other games had fallen through the game between Grove and St.John's became the decider in the DFCSS U13 Champions League. A sunny afternoon at St.John's brought out a good crowd who witnessed a barrowload of goals. The game was a repeat of the cup final and Grove edged the game 8-5 to do the double. Grove looked to be comfortable at 5-1 then St.John's pulled one back before halftime to give some hope at 5-2. St.John's grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and fought back to level at 5-5 before Grove recovered to score three late goals.
Fri 20 June - St.John's beat Morgan 4-1 in the Arab Trust U15 Champions League to win the league. In a repeat of the cup final St.John's just needed a point at DISC but found themselves a goal behind early on but were level by halftime. Two goals at the start of the second half put St.John's ahead and a fourth goal was the icing on the cake, as the blues took the title for a league and cup double.
Wed 18 June - Monifieth and Grove ended up in what was effectively a play-off to decide the DFCSS U14 Champions League, following the withdrawal of St.Paul's after they had played just one game. In a repeat of the cup final the teams took the field at Monifieth on a warm afternoon with an early kick-off, Monifieth scored first but Grove soon equalised. In the second half with the score level at 1-1 the game was interrupted by a fire alarm (!!) as all the pupils trooped out to the assembly points on the pitch. After a 20 minute delay the game restarted and Monifieth used their speed to score twice in quick succession and held on to win 3-1 and claim the league and cup double.
Thur 12 June - With Craigie not taking part and St.Paul's withdrawing after their first match it came down to a one-match winner-take-all between St.John's and Grove to decide the Arab Trust U16 Champions League. After a close first half St.John's edged ahead and held on to a 4-2 lead to lift the league shield.

At halftime it looked done and dusted as Grove had swept into a 5-2 lead. It was an even game for the first quarter of an hour but then Grove cruised into a comfortable lead, 1-0 (16), 2-0 (19) and 3-0 (24).
Credit to St.John's who struck back straight away, 3-1 (25), but Grove moved up the left and shot home low inside the near post, 4-1 (28) and went four up with halftime approaching, 5-1 (33). A minute later St.John's reduced the leeway to three with their second goal, 5-2 (34).
Following the recent 4-0 scoreline in favour of Grove in the Logie Cup Final at Harp St.John's had at least hit the target a couple of times and an early goal after the break might bring about a comeback.
At halftime St.John's made a couple of changes, including a change of keeper. Both teams made some good chances after the interval but they were either just wide or grabbed by the keepers. With no further goals the game entered the last quarter - little did we know about the drama to follow.
A St.John's shot came back off the post and the rebound was knocked in for 5-3 (53), suddenly St.John's had a glimmer of hope.

A St.John's shot came back off the post and the rebound was knocked in for 5-3 (53), suddenly St.John's had a glimmer of hope.
Five minutes later a good cross from the left flew to the far post where it was headed in firmly for 5-4 (58) and the comeback was now on.
Grove could have settled it soon after but struck the bar. St.John's went up the other end and after a real stramash found the net for the third time in nine minutes to level it at 5-5 (62).
With only eight minutes on the clock before the possibility of extra-time the next goal would be vital.
Grove found a second wind and to their supporters' relief regained the lead with five minutes to go, 6-5 (65). Three minutes later Grove struck again low into the corner of the net, 7-5 (68), but St.John's hit back with a shot which cannoned off the post, then in time added on Grove finally restored their 3-goal halftime lead with a killer 8th, 8-5 (70+2).

Both teams knew they had been in a game by the time the final whistle blew. St.John's were roundly applauded for their tremendous fighting spirit and never-say-die attitude in their comeback, before Grove took the applause, receiving their championship medals and the DFCSS U13 Shield.

Fri 20 June - St.John's won the Arab Trust U15 League after a hard-fought contest with Morgan at DISC. In the rerun of May's cup final at Glenesk Park St.John's had to avoid defeat in their last game while Morgan needed to win to force a play-off.
St.John's were up against it from the start with Morgan pressing hard and grabbing an early lead with a goal in the third minute.
Midway through the half a Morgan defensive lapse let in St.John's who lobbed the keeper from 20 yards into an empty net for 1-1.
The second half was only a couple of minutes old when St.John's took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored two goals in a minute to go 3-1 up.
The second half was only a couple of minutes old when St.John's took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored two goals in a minute to go 3-1 up.
Morgan fought back but the game was starting to run away from them. St.John's scraped the far post with one attempt and finally scored a solo goal from the left to sew the game up at 4-1 and lift the league shield.
Wed 18 June - In a hastily arranged DFCSS U14 League game which was effectively a play-off Monifieth won the league with a 3-1 win over Grove.
Monifieth took an early lead with a shot from 20 yards in the centre after Grove had dithered out on the left, 1-0 (8m), but Grove soon equalised from the spot following a foul inside the box, 1-1 (17m).
1-1 at halftime in temperatures around 20 degrees, and little between the teams.
Twelve minutes of the second half had elapsed when the school fire alarm sounded - as the pitch was one of the designated assembly areas it meant the game was brought to a halt for 20 minutes till the all-clear was given, a bizarre turn of events.
SCHOOL SHOW REHEARSALS WERE DISRUPTED BY THE FIRE ALARM AS WELL AS THE FOOTBALL
Three minutes after the pitch was cleared Monifieth's pace down the right wing gave the space to fire in the first of two shots, one into the bottom far corner, 2-1 (50m), followed soon after by another into the top far corner, 3-1 (53m).

Grove had a firm shot fingertipped onto the post only seconds after going 3-1 down, but Monifieth survived and had the ball in the net again but the scorer was offside. Monifieth were now in control and gave all their subs a late run to get into the action. The win completed the league and cup double for Monifieth.
MONIFIETH WITH THE DFCSS U14 LEAGUE SHIELD
Mon 16 June - Menzieshill slipped up in the race to win the DFCSS Arab Trust Senior League on their visit to Monifieth. Menzieshill just needed a draw in their last game to take the title but struggled against a Monifieth side who were keen to get a win and open up the scramble for the title.
Monifieth went ahead early on when a corner from the left was knocked in at the far post, 1-0 (4m).

Monifieth went ahead early on when a corner from the left was knocked in at the far post, 1-0 (4m).
Menzieshill were level three minutes later - after hitting the left post they were able to regain control and switch the ball over to the right where it was thumped in for an equaliser, 1-1 (7m).
Monifieth piled on the pressure and hit the post in the 10th minute, and the same player tried again less than a minute later and again hit the same post, but the onslaught paid off seconds later when a Menzieshill defender stuck out a leg to concede a penalty - Monifieth shot home to retake the lead, 2-1 (11m).
In the next couple of minutes both teams had good shots just over the bar and there was a lull in the excitement till midway through the half, when a Menzieshill attack was broken up by a tremendous clearance which immediately set up a Monifieth attack and calm piece of finishing past the stranded keeper, 3-1 (21m).
Menzieshill came close soon after with a shot which bounced off the bar and away for a goal kick.
Four minutes from halftime the result was almost put beyond doubt when Monifieth broke down the right and crossed to the far post where the ball was tapped in for 4-1 (36m).
Monifieth increased the lead further right after the interval with a quick break chasing a diagonal ball from left to right and slipping it past the keeper's left hand, 5-1 (43m). Menzieshill scored arguably the best goal of the day shortly after the hour mark, a magnificent run down the left beating several defenders, a good pass inside and a clinical finish across the keeper into the far side, 5-2 (64m). Two minutes later a dangerous Menzieshill free kick was saved at the expense of a corner and not long after another Menzieshill chance flew over. However time was slipping away and the missed chances meant that the opportunity to take the title was starting to disappear.

Only 19 players finished the game as a player from each side saw red with three minutes to go following an incident, then Monifieth lost another in time added on when a tackle produced a second yellow and the inevitable red. It had been a hard fought contest so it was unfortunate that not everybody could finish the game on the park.

Fri 6 June - The U17 George Grant Memorial Trophy Final took place two days after the Caira Final and the sunshine had returned to Glenesk Park. Many of the Grove team had played in the Caira Final on Wednesday while many of the Menzieshill players had had a busy week, beating St.John's in the semifinal on penalties on Tuesday and beating Morgan in the Senior League on Thursday.

Many of the Grove team had played in the Caira Final on Wednesday while many of the Menzieshill players had had a busy week, beating St.John's in the semifinal on penalties on Tuesday and beating Morgan in the Senior League on Thursday.
There was no sign of tiredness from either side as they battled away for superiority. Menzieshill had an early chance in the 4th minute which flew over the bar. The game developed into a midfield contest with neither keeper seriously tested. Grove had an opportunity midway through the half but shot over the bar.
Even when the first goal came it was not really a test for the keeper. Calum McHardy fired a shot from the centre of the Menzieshill half and the ball took a wicked deflection off a defender to leave the Menzieshill keeper absolutely helpless - the ball hit the back of the net and Grove were in the lead, 1-0 (27m).
Grove could have gone two up a couple of minutes later but the keeper grabbed it easily. Close to halftime it looked like Menzieshill would level but the lobbed attempt sailed wide of the right post.
Halftime : Grove 1 Menzieshill 0
The game turned dramatically right after the break. The second half was only two minutes old when Callum Crighton found himself all alone in the middle of the Grove half. While some expected to see a flag go up for offside, none came, so Callum took the ball on and lifted it over the advancing Grove keeper to net the equaliser, 1-1 (42m).

Two minutes later and Menzieshill were in front. Jack Neave evaded a tackle just inside the box out on the left, before turning to smack home a fierce low shot into the far side of the net, 1-2 (44m). A superb strike, worthy of winning the match though there was still hope for more goals with over half an hour left.
Menzieshill had a chance to put the game out of sight a few minutes later but it went wide of the left post. Just after the hour Grove had a great chance to equalise but only managed to shoot over the bar when it looked easier to score. Menzieshill replied with a couple of corners but the danger was cleared. Grove could not break through the Menzieshill defence with Jack Neave leading by example.
After five minutes of time added on the final whistle sounded and Menzieshill could celebrate their first trophy for three years, and renew their acquaintance with the Grant Trophy which is a cup they have now won 6 times in the last 11 years.
Final score : Grove 1 Menzieshill 2
Wed 4 June - The U16 Robert Caira Memorial Trophy Final took place at Violet's Glenesk Park. Unlike the previous finals at Glenesk the glorious sunshine was long gone and heavy showers were the order of the day. The fans had to huddle under the covers instead of basking on the terraces.
Morgan had not won the trophy since 1998 and Grove had never won it, so there was all to play for. Both teams had faced stiff opposition in the semifinals against St.John's and St.Paul's respectively.

Morgan had not won the trophy since 1998 and Grove had never won it, so there was all to play for. Both teams had faced stiff opposition in the semifinals against St.John's and St.Paul's respectively.
Morgan started the game brightly and the game was only 7 minutes old when Morgan took the lead, Cameron McMahon raced away on the right, the keeper came out to the edge of the box but slid through on the wet surface and from an angle Cameron struck the ball into the empty net, beating the two defenders trying to chase back, 1-0 (7).
Grove fought back and forced the Morgan keeper to make some great saves for corners. Eventually one of the corners would pay off - Adam Brown hit a corner from the left which took a couple of bounces and seemed to be touched in by a defender for the equaliser. 1-1 (33).
Grove went ahead not long after when Blair Whyte was brought down in the box, and Sean Gallacher tucked the penalty away, 1-2 (38).

Grove pressed hard at the start of the second half and 9 minutes in grabbed the next goal. Cameron Hoskins took the ball on the left, evaded a Morgan defender who slid past him in the wet and drilled a low right-footed shot in at the near post - the keeper got a hand to it but could not divert it away from the goal, 1-3 (49). The Morgan defence was caught out again straight from the kick-off as Grove attacked, Cameron Hoskins took the ball left of centre and fired high with his right foot from the edge of the area into the postage stamp corner, beating the keeper's despairing dive to notch his own second goal and Grove's fourth, 1-4 (50).
There had only been 49 seconds between the goals, and the game was now being controlled by Grove. Morgan tried to get back into it and flashed a header wide of the post. Just after the hour it was game over - Rory Faulkner on as a sub ran down the right wing and crossed to the far post where Cameron Hoskins beat the keeper and a couple of defenders to seal his hat-trick, 1-5 (62).
Morgan did their best to come back into the game and eventually got their reward. Kal Handy pulled one back late on for Morgan with a well taken finish, 2-5 (78) to wrap up the scoring.
After a good competitive game it was Grove who stepped up to lift the Caira Trophy for the first time.
GROVE WITH THE U16 ROBERT CAIRA MEMORIAL TROPHY

Fri 16 May - With Dens Park being unavailable this season because of major work being done on the pitch, the U14 and U15 finals took place at Glenesk Park, courtesy of Violet, on a beautiful sunny evening.
The U14 Urquhart Trophy Final (sponsored by the Dee Club) kicked off the evening with Monifieth and Grove taking the field. The two teams had met in last year's U13 Logie Cup Final at St.Paul's where Monifieth went down 7-1 and there was no hint of a dramatic reverse in the opening stages of the game with neither team dominating.
That changed in the 14th minute when Monifieth won a free kick on the edge of the box and smashed the kick over the keeper into the net to take the lead, 1-0 (14).
Grove fought back and nearly equalised four minutes later when the Monifieth keeper was out of his goal and Grove saw the chance to curl the ball into the empty net, only for a defender to race back and head the ball away at the near post for a corner.
That clearance was perhaps a turning point as Monifieth soon doubled their lead - a foul in the box from a Grove defender and Monifieth scored from the spot, 2-0 (24).
Grove scrambled one back from close range with halftime approaching to set up an interesting second half, 2-1 (32).
Halftime : Monifieth 2 Grove 1
The second half started with end-to-end action and Grove fired in a shot from distance which was heading for the top corner until the Monifieth keeper stretched out a hand and tipped it over, and a minute later the Grove keeper produced a good save to thwart a Monifieth effort.

Monifieth turned the game with two goals in as many minutes. A cross from near the right corner caught the keeper out and flew straight in, 3-1 (40) and this was swiftly followed with another body-blow to Grove when a free kick from the halfway line bounced on the 6-yard line and the keeper could only punch the ball against a striker who scored, 4-1 (42). If these goals had a touch of fortune about them, there was no question about the final goal with a run down the left wing unmatched by the Grove defence ending in a shot to the nearside of the goal which gave the keeper no chance, 5-1 (60).
Monifieth still had time to hit another one off the bar with the keeper beaten. A good performance by the blues who ran out 5-1 winners and lifted the Urquhart Trophy, presented by David Lawson and David Lawson Junior of the Dee Club, for the first time in their history.
Final score : Monifieth 5 Grove 1

MONIFIETH WITH THE U14 URQUHART TROPHY (SPONSORED BY THE DEE CLUB)
The second game of the night at Glenesk Park was the U15 Senior Sports Cup Final (sponsored by DFCSS) between Morgan and St.John's. The two teams had met in last year's U14 final at Dens where Morgan won 1-0 with a wonder goal and a rearguard action which defied a St.John's team which threw everything at them.

The two teams had met in last year's U14 final at Dens where Morgan won 1-0 with a wonder goal and a rearguard action which defied a St.John's team which threw everything at them.
The meeting at Violet was to be a very even and competitive game and the result was in doubt until the end. Morgan started well and put pressure on the St.John's defence but St.John's resisted well and the game levelled out quite quickly.
Midway through the first half St.John's went into the lead, a free kick from the left aimed for the far post where, a few yards out, captain Kieran Conway rose to head home inside the post with the Morgan defence a little slow to react, 0-1 (19).
Five minutes from halftime Morgan nearly equalised with a fierce shot from the left which smacked off the near post and bounced back across the goal at pace and away to safety.
Halftime : Morgan 0 St.John's 1
After the interval the game continued in a competitive fashion and several players picked up cards for mistimed tackles. Morgan fought hard for an equaliser and had a good chance when a long-range shot was touched onto the post by the keeper but the rebound was missed and the opportunity disappeared. A Morgan free kick then caused a stramash in the area and the ball ended just over the bar.
With St.John's seeming to soak up the Morgan pressure and countering at their own pace it looked as if yet again one goal would decide it. Suddenly it was all level - with only a few minutes left a Morgan free kick from away out on the left was knocked down about ten yards out and Kyle Reid smashed the ball into the back of the net for the equaliser, 1-1 (72m).

Thoughts of a possible penalty shoot-out to decide the game vanished a minute later as St.John's moved up a gear, Nathan Scott found himself on his own on the left, ran forward and thumped an unstoppable 20-yard shot past the despairing dive of the Morgan keeper, 1-2 (73m). A tremendous goal, worthy of winning a cup!
Tempers were frayed shortly after and a few more cards followed, but everybody stayed on the park and St.John's emerged a few minutes later as 2-1 winners. Liam Clarke of St.John's received the DFCSS Man of the Match award from Dave Forbes before the teams received their medals and Kieran Conway picked up the cup.

Tues 13 May - The Tannadice finals were in doubt because of the unusual weather throughout the afternoon. After a beautiful spring morning the afternoon was a mixture of heavy showers, sunshine, thunder, lightning and hailstones.
Following some last-minute work from the groundsmen the pitch was playable and the first game started only ten minutes late. St.Paul's attacked down the slope and won a free kick out 20 yards on the left touchline in the third minute. Jordan Elder took the free kick and fired it over everybody into the far corner, 1-0 (3).
The celebration was as good as the goal as Jordan climbed into a front row seat and applauded his teammates who stood on the touchline and applauded him back - a superb moment!
Morgan fought hard to get back into the game but struggled to get into the box to put any serious pressure on the St.Paul's defence. St.Paul's could not build on their early lead - they created lots of chances but could not find the target. Morgan eventually got into the area with a cross from the left but there were no takers, and St.Paul's broke quickly to set up another dangerous attack.
With halftime approaching St.Paul's attacked down the right and sent over a great cross to the far side of the box where Jordan Elder slid the ball under the keeper for his own and St.Paul's second goal, 2-0 (37).
Halftime : St.Paul's 2 Morgan 0
The second half continued in the same vein with St.Paul's dominating the exchanges while Morgan showed lots of effort as they tried to find the breakthrough.

Into the final quarter and St.Paul's headed home a corner only for a Morgan defender to handle on the line and see a red card, despite the ball crossing the line. St.Paul's were awarded a penalty but keeper prevented a further goal.
Morgan did not concede any more, even with the ten men, and St.Paul's ran out as winners to lift their first ever Dundee United Cup, once both teams had received their medals from Colin Stewart of Arab Trust.

Grove got off to a perfect start in their attempt to retain the Senior Johnston Trophy, as Ranald Bowie ran through the centre of the St.John's defence to beat the keeper and made it 1-0 (4).
Grove got off to a perfect start in their attempt to retain the Senior Johnston Trophy, as Ranald Bowie ran through the centre of the St.John's defence to beat the keeper and made it 1-0 (4).
Despite the early goal there was little between the teams and chances fell at both ends.
St.John's looked quick on the break and almost on the half hour mark levelled the game, when Craig Batchelor raced away through the middle to hit the back of the net, 1-1 (29).
The game looked as if it was going to reach halftime all level when Callum Faulkner found himself free on the left side of the box and finished coolly to put Grove back in front, 2-1 (41).
Halftime : Grove 2 St.John's 1
The second half was an even contest.
Grove increased their lead eighteen minutes after the restart with a run from Calum McHardy down the inside left and a pass to Callum Faulkner who scored from close range to notch his second of the game. St.John's looked for an offside flag but it was not to be, and Grove were now leading by two goals, 3-1 (63).
Grove started to look comfortable with their two-goal cushion, while St.John's were so eager to reduce the arrears that they kept running offside, leading to inevitable frustration.
Neither keeper came under any real pressure in the final quarter with chances being fired high and wide by both sides, and Grove held on to lift the cup for the second year in a row, with Callum Faulkner winning the Lee Walker Man of the Match Trophy.
Final score : Grove 3 St.John's 1
Thur 8 May - The first final of the year took place on a cloudy but dry night at Lochee Harp's Beechwood Park. It had been a few years since our previous final at the Harp and a good crowd turned out to watch Grove and St.John's in the U13 Logie Cup Final.

Grove had a slight advantage in the early stages but there was little in it, as both sides battled hard in midfield and gave away few chances.
After the first quarter of an hour St.John's forced Grove back into their own half more and dominated the game for a spell.
But Grove withstood the pressure and scored two goals in two minutes to edge ahead. The first goal came from a shot from about 8 yards out which beat the keeper and crept over the line, 1-0 (25).

GROVE GO ONE UP ....
Then a corner on the left beat the outstretched arms of the St.John's keeper and the ball was squeezed in through a ruck of players almost on the line, 2-0 (27). The keeper quickly recovered from an injury in the melee leading to the goal.
.....THEN GROVE GO TWO UP
Halftime : Grove 2 St.John's 0
Despite the best efforts of St.John's it was Grove who increased their lead in the second half with a well taken goal - a good pass and shot put Grove in a commanding position, 3-0 (49). The Grove defence limited the St.John's threat and even when St.John's won a corner they had no luck, the ball being blasted straight out for a goal kick.
Grove nearly added a fourth with a shot from the right which hit the base of the far post. With time running out Grove raced away through the centre, drifting to the right, and having outpaced the defence slid a low shot past the keeper to wrap up the win, 4-0 (69).

Grove retained the Logie Cup and have now won it 5 out of the last 6 years, with Craigie the only school to intervene two years ago in the epic final at Fairfield.

The second half continued in the same vein and eventually Monifieth doubled the lead from another set-piece. With an hour gone Aboyne conceded a free kick well outside the box. A right-foot strike lifted the ball high over the wall and into the net, 2-0.
Monifieth wrapped it up about 10 minutes from the end with a solo effort through inside left, waltzing through a couple of defenders inside the box and shooting across the keeper into the far side of the net.
Aboyne grabbed a late consolation after a stramash in the 6 yard box when Monifieth failed to clear a corner but the final whistle soon blew.

MONTROSE BEAT GLENROTHES 2-0 TO WIN THE TROPHY
A cracking game at Station Park, Forfar, with two sides wanting to attack all the time. Glenrothes HS had many chances particularly from corners but their tall strikers always managed to get underneath the ball and head over the bar. Montrose Academy defended superbly, always managing to get a foot in at the right time, to upset the Fife team. Midway through the first half Montrose went ahead with a shot from outside the box, celebrations below.
Montrose doubled their lead in the second half with a corner headed in firmly. See the goal and celebrations below.

Arbroath HS were level a minute later after forcing in a corner from the right, 1-1 (3).
With two goals in as many minutes the crowd expected a high score but the goals dried up as the game settled down. On the half hour Arbroath HS made some substitutions and Portobello almost immediately took advantage by grabbing two goals before the halftime whistle, a long-range shot catching out the keeper, 1-2 (32) and a run through inside right finishing with a shot through the keeper, 1-3 (34).
Arbroath HS were happy to see the break in order to reorganise.
Halftime : Arbroath HS 1 Portobello HS 3
In the first minute of the second half Arbroath HS raced down the left wing to finish in style and reduce the arrears, 2-3 (36).

Halftime : Arbroath HS 1 Portobello HS 3
In the first minute of the second half Arbroath HS raced down the left wing to finish in style and reduce the arrears, 2-3 (36).
Two minutes later Arbroath HS had the chance to equalise from the spot after a foul just inside the box but hit their penalty well wide of the post.
However the heads were not down and two minutes later a blockbuster from 25 yards nearly ripped the net off, 3-3 (40).
Arbroath HS nearly let their Edinburgh opponents back in when the left back underhit a backpass to the keeper who struggled to clear his lines but Portobello could not finish it off. From trailing at the break Arbroath HS went 4-3 up in the 48th minute from a run through the middle and a shot from the edge of the area, 4-3 (48).
The lead was wiped out soon after when a rash defensive tackle in the box gave Portobello the chance to level from the spot. Unlike the earlier Arbroath penalty there was no mistake as Portobello sent the keeper the wrong way to equalise, 4-4 (56).
There were no more goals in the last quarter of an hour, so the game ended 4-4 and it was on to penalties.
Portobello took the first kick but the Arbroath HS keeper saved with his legs. His teammates scored all theirs, so after 4 kicks each it was 4-3 to Arbroath HS and Portobello had to score their 5th penalty to stay in the game, but the keeper pulled off another save and the Arbroath HS players raced forward to jump in a heap in celebration.

Forfar Ac. beat Arbroath HS 3-1 in a play-off to decide the league.
Tues 17 June - After both Forfar Ac. and Arbroath HS had finished on the same points at the top of the league the Angus Soccer One League was decided on a play-off at Station Park, Forfar. A good number of spectators turned out on a sunny afternoon for the 2.30 kick-off and saw a very even game. Arbroath HS, having won the TSB U13 Plate on penalties the week before, were wearing their new TSB strips and took the lead in the 16th minute when Elliot Boath hit home from a fairly acute angle on the right, 0-1 (16m). Forfar were not despondent after this setback and fought back well. Eight minutes after going behind Jay Yule, some 30 yards from goal inside left, saw the keeper was well off his line and lofted the ball over his head - the keeper gave chase but could not catch the ball which hit the back of the net for an equaliser, 1-1 (24m).
The second half continued to be an even contest and it was beginning to look like a penalty shoot-out would be needed to decide the title. With only a minute left on the clock Forfar broke clear on the left and seemed to win it with a goal not too dissimilar to their first one, Jay Yule perhaps 20 yards out on the left again saw the keeper coming towards him and shot over his hands into the empty net, 2-1 (69m). In the third minute of time added on Forfar wrapped the game up - it looked like the keeper's ball at the far post but he took his eye off it and left Nathan Clark with the simple task of hitting the net, 3-1 (70+3m). A couple of minutes later and the referee blew the final whistle, and Forfar had regained the trophy they won for the first time two years ago.
