JUNE ROUND-UP : PRIMARY
Nothing had been decided in Primary till the start of June but a busy three-week period saw all the leagues and cups won.
First up was Arab Trust DSA Section D where Barnhill retained the trophy with a 100% record with a 5-0 win over Ancrum Road on Friday 3rd. Three days later both teams were lifting a cup, Ancrum Road beating St.Joseph's 5-1 in the Linton Cup Final and Barnhill beating Forthill 2-1 in the Burgess Cup Final.
Ancrum Road led 3-0 at halftime in the Linton Cup Final and moved into an almost unassailable lead with two more goals in the second half but St.Joseph's fought all the way and deserved to get on the scoresheet, even if it was with the last kick of the match. In the Burgess Cup Final Barnhill trailed 1-0 to Forthill but turned it round in the second half with two goals in three minutes to win a close match 2-1. In between these finals Gowriehill won the Angus Trophy Centre Small Schools Cup 5-0 with a strong performance against a plucky St.Pius team.
While there were three games on Monday 6th (including arguably the best final of the week between Barnhill and Forthill), there were only two games on Wednesday 8th. There were however plenty of goals for the spectators to enjoy as Craigowl beat Downfield 6-2 in the Linton Cup Final followed by Fintry's 8-3 win over SS Peter & Paul in the Thomson Cup Final - both were entertaining games with some good goals.
Friday 10th was the last of the cup finals at Elliot Road with St.Andrew's pipping St.Joseph's by the odd goal in seven to win the DCSFA Fairtrade Football Rock Cup (sponsored by Walker the Jeweller) 4-3. Then Barnhill and Forthill renewed their rivalry for the second time in a week in the Junior Sports Cup Final - goals for Barnhill at the start of the second half gave the green and yellows the advantage and a 4-0 win gave Barnhill the treble.
Further issues were decided the following week. St.Ninian's and Rosebank met in a play-off to decide the DSA Arab Trust Small Schools League on Monday 13th. Rosebank raced into a 2-0 lead but St.Ninian's fought back to lead 3-2 at the break. There were lots of goals in the second half too, with St.Ninian's eventually winning 8-4. The following morning at a very wet DISC it was Clepington who won the Banks Trophy 5-a-sides, winning all their games.
St.Luke's & St.Matthew's won DSA Arab Trust Section A with nobody else using the time available to catch them while Fintry beat St.Joseph's 5-0 in the last league game of the season on Friday 24th to wrap up Arab Trust DSA Section C with 7 wins out of 7.
JUNE ROUND-UP : SECONDARY
Whitton Finals Part 2 took place on Thursday 2nd June. Both matches were eagerly anticipated following the recent finals at Dens and Tannadice.
The first game was the league decider in the DSA U14 League between Morgan and Grove. Both teams had fought out a 3-3 draw in the Urquhart Trophy Final (sponsored by the Dee Club) at Dens Park in April, with Grove winning on penalties in one of the highlights of the season. The league decider was to prove another highlight. Grove scored early from an own goal and by halftime were 2-0 ahead and seemingly coasting. Whatever the Morgan halftime team talk was needs to be bottled for the future. The second half had hardly started when Morgan scored through Ryan Smith and they soon equalised and moved into a 3-2 lead, both goals from Jack Whyte. Grove did not give up and came up the hill to level at 3-3, a repeat of the score at Dens. This time Morgan did not let it slip and five minutes from the end Jack Whyte chased a ball through the centre and beat the onrushing Grove keeper to the touch and the ball rolled slowly down the hill into net.
A hat-trick for Jack Whyte and the winner for Morgan. It was the first time ever that Morgan had won the U14 League.
The second game was a repeat of the 5-4 victory for Monifieth against Grove in the U16 Dundee United Cup Final (sponsored by Arab Trust) at Tannadice in May. This time it was for the U16 Robert Caira Memorial Trophy (sponsored by DFCSS). Again it was an even encounter, although the defences were tighter than at Tannadice. Mark Smith opened the scoring for Grove in the first half but Monifieth substitute Jack Nelms scored a belter from outside the box to draw it level at 1-1. With no further goals it was down to a penalty shoot-out - both teams missed a kick early on and Grove had to score the last of the 10 regulation spot-kicks before going to sudden death but Monifieth save to win 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
On Wednesday 8th the U15 Girls of Perth Academy won the Scottish Football Partnership Trust 7s in the National Finals at Toryglen. The East girls won every match they played and continued to show the skill and good form at Toryglen which they had shown on the other days in Perth and at Riverside. For the record their results were :
Perth & Kinross Stage
Blairgowrie HS 0 Perth Ac. 4, Perth Ac. 2 Crieff HS 0, Perth Ac. 6 Blairgowrie HS 0, Crieff HS 0 Perth Ac. 5
East Region Finals
Glenrothes HS 1 Perth Ac. 2, Perth Ac. 1 Woodmill HS 0, Perth Ac. 3 Forfar Ac. 0, Perth Ac. 6 St.John's HS 1, Perth Ac. 7 Auchmuty HS 0
National Finals
Perth Ac. 2 St.Peter the Apostle HS 1, Perth Ac. 5 Bathgate Ac. 2, Final - Perth Ac. 1 Dumfries HS 0
On Thursday 23rd the last trophy went to St.John's who won the DSA U13 League in a play-off against Grove. A good crowd assembled at Craigie Astroturf to witness an eventful game. 2-2 at the interval but St.John's were now playing with 10 men - however they turned on the attacking style in the second half and scored some cracking goals to run out 7-3 winners and complete the double.
In the other leagues time became the enemy with some teams not able to keep up so Grove won the Arab Trust U15 League to complete the double, Grove also won the Arab Trust U16 League while Menzieshill bowed out with the double, winning the Senior Johnston Trophy at Tannadice in May and the DSA Arab Trust Senior League.

Tues 31 May - At a sunny and very warm DISC the first league title of the season went to Monifieth who won the U15 Girls 7s League beating St.John's 2-1 and Morgan A 2-0. Monifieth remain the only name on the shield - the last time the trophy was played for was 2010 and the winners then were Monifieth.
The season will finish for the girls on Thursday 9th June when St.John's defend their U15 Shield in the final against Lasswade HS at Station Park, Forfar, at 7.00.
WHITTON FINALS PART 1
Thur 26 May - A cloudy but dry evening at Whitton Park saw two games. First up was the U17 George Grant Memorial Trophy Final (sponsored by DFCSS) between Monifieth and Grove. The local derby would always be a lively affair and Luc Bollan headed a Monifieth corner into the net to take a 1-0 lead which looked like being the halftime score until Adam Brown connected with a Grove corner to equalise just before the break. With penalties looming man-of-the-match Rory Faulkner headed over the Monifieth keeper to give Grove a late winner for 2-1.
Grove also featured in the second game, the U13 Logie Cup Final (sponsored by DFCSS), against St.John's. Grove started well and hit the post before taking the lead but a St.John's free kick from Kyle Geekie on the halfway line sailed into the net for a superb equaliser, so it was 1-1 at the break. A flurry of goals in the second half put St.John's in control at 4-1, Ben Garrick, Ruari Henry and a tremendous strike from Ben Garrick again. More goals followed from Jaden Ferguson and Damian Kunc to make it 6-1 before Grove pulled one back for 6-2. Two-goal Ben Garrick picked up the man-of-the-match award.
TANNADICE FINALS DRAMA
Thur 12 May - Two finals you could not take your eyes off at Tannadice. The first game between Monifieth and Grove was the U16 Dundee United Cup Final (sponsored by Arab Trust). Monifieth scored in the 2nd minute and soon added a header for 2-0 but Grove pulled back to 2-1 in 15 minutes. Monifieth broke away for 3-1 but Grove scored twice to make it 3-3 at halftime.
Grove took the lead for the first time immediately after the interval but Monifieth headed an equaliser for 4-4 with 10 minutes left. With penalties looking inevitable as the only way to decide it, Monifieth were awarded a controversial penalty three minutes into time added on. Grove had to replace the keeper who was injured in the incident so it was fully 7 minutes over time when Monifieth netted the penalty to retake the lead. There was still time for further chances but no more goals so Monifieth won the Dundee United Cup after an epic contest 5-4. Colin Stewart of Arab Trust presented the players with their medals.
In the Senior Johnston Trophy Final Menzieshill played a great game against St.John's and went ahead with a Jordan Winter header from a free kick on the right after 23 minutes and Liam Hornby doubled the score shortly after. 2-0 to Menzieshill at halftime.
St.John's had plenty of attacks but Menzieshill defended solidly with a keeper in great form behind the defence. On the hour Ben Mooney broke for Menzieshill and unleashed a fantastic shot into the top of the net for 3-0. St.John's pulled one back a few minutes later through Jonny Cartwright and went for more but the Menzieshill defence limited them to a Taylor Carroll header for 3-2. Menzieshill captain Ryan Muir won the Lee Walker Man of the Match trophy before picking up the Johnston Trophy. Two great finals, both close games with lots of talking points.
GROVE DO DENS DOUBLE
Wed 27 Apr - In the first of this season's finals Grove retained both trophies at Dens Park. The opening game was a superb contest as Grove and Morgan contested the U14 Urquhart Trophy Final (sponsored by the Dee Club). On a bright but chilly evening Morgan passed up a great chance by knocking the ball just wide of the post. Grove took the lead when a Josh Mulligan effort was chased by two Morgan defenders, one of whom cleared off the line only for the ball to hit his team-mate and end up in the net, 1-0 (28m).
Morgan soon levelled with a goal from Jack Whyte, 1-1 (30m) but fell behind again when the referee awarded a penalty to Grove and Josh Mulligan scored from the spot to give Grove the lead at halftime, 2-1 (35m). The second half had only just started when Derryn Thomson equalised for 2-2, (36m). Grove regained their one-goal advantage with a strong run down the left and great low cross to the far post where Liam Duell connected for 3-2 (44m) but Morgan found a third equaliser when Jack Whyte scored his second of the night to tie it up at 3-3 (55m). The excitement continued as a Grove corner was headed off the line and then Adam Cameron in the Morgan goal flew to his right to tip away a goalbound shot.
With no further goals it was down to penalties to decide the winner. Grove scored first then saved Morgan's first attempt. Grove netted again and again Morgan saw their kick stopped, so after two penalties each Grove led 2-0. Both sides scored their third kick but Grove only had to find the target with their fourth to win the cup - Josh Mulligan who had already scored from the spot in the first half stepped up to shoot home and start the celebrations. Both sides then received their medals from the Dee Club's Dennis Thomson and Mary Butter - an excellent final with great football from both sides, only decided by the lottery of a penalty shoot-out.
The second game was the U15 Senior Sports Cup Final (sponsored by DFCSS) between Grove and St.John's. The game was even to start with and St.John's took the lead through Steven Abbot, 0-1 (11m). Grove fought back and Callan Gallacher made it 1-1 (21m). The game then turned with two goals in very quick succession. First Reece Lornie struck a 25-yard shot into the bottom corner, unstoppable for the keeper, 2-1 (36m) and a minute later Callan Gallacher fired in at the near post for 3-1 (37m). Grove added to their tally in the second half with Ryan Hunt making it 4-1 (45m), Matt McKinnon scoring from close range for 5-1 (49m) before Ewan Faulkner wrapped up the scoring at the near post for 6-1 (63m). At the final whistle Dave Forbes from DFCSS presented Reece Lornie with the Man of the Match Trophy before the players received their medals and Grove took possession of the Senior Sports Cup again.
ST.JOHN'S WIN THE SENIOR SHIELD
Fri 22 Apr - A great night at Hampden for St.John's who won the Senior Shield for the first time in their history and bring the magnificent trophy back to Dundee for the first time since 1976 when Harris were victorious. A single goal after 15 minutes from Kieran Ross decided the contest. If it were not for a fantastic display of saves from the Bannerman HS keeper St.John's could have scored four or five more. Shortly after the goal the keeper tipped another shot onto the angle of bar and post to deny St.John's a second goal.
At 1-0 it only takes one mistake for it all to go wrong but St.John's looked comfortable and unflustered by the big occasion. Bannerman only troubled the St.John's defence a couple of times while St.John's impressed all over the park and constantly looked for goals.
With time running out St.John's did find the back of the net again but it was chalked off for offside. Once the stadium clock stopped at 90:00 the time added on seemed to go on for ever but the final whistle soon sounded and the celebrations could begin in earnest.
It was a thoroughly deserved win for St.John's who learned the lessons of last year's U16 Shield Final defeat against Boclair at Alloa and all the players played at the top of their form on the biggest stage of all, the national stadium at Hampden. It was a night never to forget for the fans who supported the team in good numbers and for all the players who mounted the steps after the game to lift the huge shield.
The St.John's team to go down in history is :
1. Robbie Telford, 2. Nicholas Scott, 3.Taylor Carroll, 4.Craig Adamson, 5. Logan Irvine, 6. Conor Samson (capt.), 7.Jonny Cartwright, 8. Kieran Conway, 9.Kieran Ross, 10. Nathan Scott, 11. Connor Coupe, 12. Nabil Nadeem, 14. Ben Mitchell, 16 Craig Kemlo.
Managers Mr.McArtney and Mr.Fenton.
BUSY TIMES FOR ST.JOHN'S
Wed 20 Apr - With the U15s winning their Inspiresport Shield quarterfinal in Motherwell 3-2 today, St.John's now have three teams in the latter stages of the national competitions. St.John's U15s will face Grange Ac. from Kilmarnock in their semifinal, while the U15 Girls go into their Shield semifinal at Meggetland on Tuesday against opponents unknown - it will be the winner of St.Ninian's HS Giffnock v. St.Peter the Apostle HS from Clydebank.
On Friday the Seniors play Bannerman HS from Glasgow in the Senior Shield Final which returns to Hampden after a few years away. It is 20 years since a Dundee school team reached the Senior Shield Final (the last one being Harris against Renfrew HS) so it will be a memorable night for the team when they run out onto the pitch at the National Stadium.

LATEST NEWS
Thursday 30th June
Secondary Staff beat Primary Staff 5-1 in a friendly at Craigie Astroturf.
The season finally drew to a close with a victory for the Secondary staff. There was not much in it in the first half with Secondary breaking the offside trap to take the lead. Primary had a good chance but an excellent double-save from Secondary keeper Ogilvie prevented an equaliser.
In the second half Secondary moved into a 3-0 lead before Primary won a penalty which was however not converted. Primary did finally get on the scoresheet through Reilly but Secondary took advantage of the lack of flag-waving assistants to finish the scoring at 5-1. The best moment in the second half was a Secondary shot which hit the post, rebounded onto defender Duffy then straight into the arms of keeper Valentine.
In between goals both sides were keen to test the height of the Craigie fences with the ball twice being fired over into the grounds of the adjacent College, giving the ballboys a good test.
The highlight however came in the first half when a ball was punted over the side-fence into the Arbroath Road. All eyes watched the ball roll agonisingly onto the road and it looked like the ball would survive until it got caught underneath an eastbound HGV. It was an easy win for the HGV which burst the ball with a loud bang and carried on its way regardless. An explosive moment in an otherwise well-contested game which ended in handshakes all round and, more important, no daft injuries with the holidays about to start. See photos.

Grove scored after 9 minutes but 9 minutes later St.John's were level. Despite being reduced to 10 men St.John's took the lead but Grove fought back to make it 2-2 at the break. St.John's made it 3-2 but Grove equalised 5 minutes later. Straight from the kick-off St.John's went up the park and scored again to lead 4-3. Another goal soon after gave St.John's some daylight and two more goals at 5-minute intervals put the result beyond doubt, wrapping up the double for St.John's. See photos.

Rosebank had the last word with the 4th but St.Ninian's took the league title after an entertaining encounter. See photos.

Lasswade HS beat St.John's 2-1 in the U15 Girls Shield Final at Station Park, Forfar. Early in the second half as the rain got heavier Lasswade struck a low shot into the bottom corner from 25 yards to lead 2-0. Well done to Fintry who were deserved winners but the best moment was the goal-of-the-week so far when SS Peter & Paul had a superb run up the right wing with a great pass into the middle where a sweet right-foot shot curled into the top corner. ¡Golazo!
