CLEPINGTON BEAT DENS ROAD 2-1 IN TOP OF TABLE CLASH
Thur 24 June - The venue for the last game of the season was the new University Astroturf at Riverside, a beautiful surface for the top of the table clash in Arab Trust Dee 4 Life Section C between Dens Road and Clepington. Given that the recent Thomson Cup Final between the teams was settled by a single goal, this was expected to be close. Both sides had chances in the first half but both keepers were in excellent form. The nearest thing was a header from Clepington after a corner in the 18th minute, but the Dens Road keeper fell on the ball on the line and prevented it from crossing. Halftime 0-0.
After the break Clepington had a good chance from a free kick which rattled the bar but eventually two goals in a minute made the difference. In the 38th minute Clepington chased a long ball down the middle, the Dens Road keeper saw the danger and raced out but was beaten to the ball and Clepington got a touch at the edge of the box to knock it into the empty net. A minute later a ball from the right was turned in smartly at the far post for 2-0 to Clepington. In the 43rd minute Dens Road pulled one back through a crowded defence to make the last 7 minutes interesting. Neither side was able to beat the keeper after that and Clepington hung on to the win.

BARNHILL GRAB EXTRA-TIME WINNER
Thur 13 May - Barnhill came from 3-0 down at Clepington to beat the home team 5-4 in extra-time in the Junior Sports Cup 2nd Round.
Clepington went ahead in the 7th minute with a header and a minute later were 2 up with a shot which went in off the post. Barnhill tested the home keeper on several occasions but it was Clepington who drew further ahead in the 22nd minute with a quick break down the left and an angled shot low past the keeper.
Halftime : Clepington 3 Barnhill 0
The 2nd half was only a minute old when Barnhill shot inside the left post to make it 3-1. With their tails up Barnhill struck again in the 30th minute and were now only 3-2 down. Five minutes later Clepington regained their 2 goal lead when the ball was headed on and the Clepington striker rounded the keeper and shot home for 4-2. But a minute later the Clepington keeper had a misunderstanding with his defence and Barnhill pounced on the loose ball to score for 4-3. The last quarter of an hour was hectic end-to end excitement and Barnhill snatched a late equaliser in the first minute of injury time.
End of normal time : Clepington 4 Barnhill 4
Barnhill went ahead for the first time two minutes into the first period of extra time when a fierce shot following a corner bounced off the underside of the bar and just over the line. A defender kicked it away but he was behind the line and the goal was awarded. The game continued in the same hectic vein but there were no further goals and Barnhill now face a 3rd Round tie on Tuesday at Invergowrie.

CRAIGOWL MAKE THE JUNIOR SPORTS CUP SEMIFINAL BEATING FORTHILL 5-3
Thur13 May - On a damp and blustery day Craigowl and Forthill served up an entertaining match.
Craigowl made the early running and took the lead with a lovely through ball which was stroked home confidently. Forthill came back into it and, after a few chances, scored with a text book header, the attacker ghosting in at the far post at a corner. However, directly from kick off, Craigowl scored with a determined mazy run straight through the defence, which caught the Forthill defence napping and was poked home from just inside the box.
Halftime : Craigowl 2 Forthill 1
Soon after the restart Craigowl went further ahead with a well worked move which was finished off with a measured shot. Craigowl continued to press and eventually were rewarded with a penalty about halfway through the half. It was despatched confidently into the corner of the net making the score 4-1. Craigowl’s coach made a substitution as the teams began to line up for the re-start and Forthill kicked off, taking advantage of the gap left in the middle and, similar to the first half, pulled one back immediately. Forthill’s tails were up and the Owls' keeper had to make a couple of good saves, pushing over the bar which would have looked good for the cameras, if there were any.
Around this time a clearance left the ball on top of the hedge and despite some imaginative attempts involving human pyramids and walking sticks, a second ball had to be thrown on to continue the game.
However, back at the game Craigowl weathered the storm and from a difficult angle, a shot found its way into the net. 5-2, but Forthill weren’t finished and again made the Owls' keeper work. With a few minutes left Forthill finished off a well-worked move to make the score 5-3.
Despite a brave effort from the lads of Forthill, Craigowl defended well and saw out the game, with few chances being created.
An entertaining and sporting game with an easy job for the referee.
Final score : Craigowl 5 Forthill 3
Craigowl now await the result of St.Joseph’s v. St.Mary’s in the other quarterfinal. Regardless of that result, the semi is bound to be a cracking game.

INVERGOWRIE BEAT DENS ROAD 2-1 TO REACH THE THIRD ROUND
Thur 6 May - After a failed attempt to play the game at Gussie Park the previous week Dens Road travelled to Invergowrie for their Junior Sports Cup 2nd Round game.
THE SUPERB SETTING OF INVERGOWRIE'S HOME PITCH
Dens Road thought they had taken the lead in the 2nd minute but the goal was chalked off for an infringement. A minute later Invergowrie broke and finished from 5 yards to go 1-0 up. Dens Road had the perfect chance to equalise in the 14th minute from the penalty spot but the keeper saved it. Both sides spurned further chances so at the break there was just one goal in it.
Halftime : Dens Road 0 Invergowrie 1
The game was end to end but goals were proving hard to come by.....until 7 minutes from time when Dens Road scored with a candidate for "Goal of the season" from Cameron McMahon, who had been in good form the day before with a couple of goals for Dundee B in the Meggetland tournament. Cameron picked up the ball 20 yards out and fired a rocket shot straight into the top corner of the net. Kyle Gourlay, who had himself been in good form as the keeper in the Dundee A team at Meggetland, could do nothing to stop the shot as it flew past his outstretched left hand.
However the Dens Road celebrations were not to last long. Two minutes later an Invergowrie cross from the right caused panic in the Dens Road defence who could not clear and the loose ball was fired in for the winner. Dens Road tried hard to score another equaliser but the Invergowrie defence held firm to set up a 3rd Round game v. Clepington or Barnhill.

CLEPINGTON GO THROUGH IN THE JUNIOR SPORTS CUP - BIRKHILL 1 CLEPINGTON 5
Fri 26 Mar - A game of two halves in one of the last Junior Sports Cup 1st Round games to be played. Clepington went ahead in the 3rd minute with a tap-in at the far post. Clepington were the stronger team in the first half and doubled their lead in 8 minutes. For the next five minutes Birkhill were under severe pressure, as Clepington hit the post then had a dipping shot tipped over for a corner. From the corner Clepington hit the other post and there was a huge melee in front of the Birkhill goal but the ball was eventually cleared. But the 13th minute was unlucky for Birkhill as Clepington fired a shot from 15 yards past the keeper in the middle of the goal.
3-0 down, Birkhill had their best attack of the half but the stramash in front of the Clepington keeper came to nothing. The rest of the half was all Clepington, and the Birkhill keeper made superb save after superb save to keep the score down. Clepington netted a fourth near halftime. The score could easily have been ten but for the Birkhill keeper, however at halftime it was Birkhill 0 Clepington 4.
The second half was a different game altogether, and it was a real end-to-end contest. Birkhill finally started to believe in themselves, created some very good moves and several attacks showed that the Clepington keeper was also in good form, including a marvellous triple save. In the 38th minute Birkhill finally got on the scoresheet when a hard shot flew past the keeper. But Clepington created several good chances and the Birkhill defence was also tested to the limit, with the Birkhill keeper still in great form. It was going to take a good shot to beat the Birkhill defence now and it came with 8 minutes left when Clepington scored an excellent 5th goal to seal their place in the 2nd Round against Barnhill.
Final score : Birkhill 1 Clepington 5

HARD-FOUGHT LOCAL DERBY WIN FOR THE OWLS - ST.ANDREW'S 2 CRAIGOWL 3
Thur 28 Jan - A great display by the St.Andrew's keeper looked like making this a goalless draw but he was finally beaten by a Craigowl shot on the turn from the edge of the box which hit the far post and bounced in for 0-1 (19). Craigowl's defence denied St.Andrew's any clear-cut chances so at halftime St.Andrew's trailed 1-0.

ST.ANDREW'S (BLUE) DO THE WALL DANCE AS CRAIGOWL (WHITE / GREEN) FIRE IN A FREEKICK
Craigowl pressed hard at the start of the second half and nine minutes into the half a corner was sidefooted in for 0-2 (34), quickly followed by a third, 0-3 (36). The game looked won until St.Andrew's staged a late comeback. It looked like just a consolation goal when St.Andrew's pulled one back with 4 minutes left, 1-3 (46) but they piled on the pressure and Craigowl were forced to concede a number of corners in the dying minutes. St.Andrew's eventually scored again, 2-3 (50) but there was no time left for the home team to grab an equaliser as the final whistle went.
Final score : St.Andrew's 2 Craigowl 3
TEN GOAL FEAST AT MYREKIRK - BIRKHILL 3 CRAIGOWL 7
Fri 25 Sept - Craigowl beat Birkhill 7-3 in a highly entertaining match at Myrekirk in Dee 4 Life Arab Trust Section B. From the kick-off Craigowl put the Birkhill defence under pressure, but it was Birkhill who took the lead with their first attack with a shot from the edge of the box, 1-0 (4). Birkhill increased the lead a minute later from a tight angle following some defensive dithering, 2-0 (5). Craigowl tried hard to get on the scoresheet but seemed to have left their shooting boots behind. Six minutes from halftime Craigowl pulled one back with a right-foot shot under the keeper, 2-1 (19), and a minute later were level after outnumbering the Birkhill defence, 2-2 (20). Birkhill went back into the lead with a shot from an acute angle on the left. 3-2 (22), and just on halftime Craigowl broke away to equalise again, 3-3 (25).
Halftime : Birkhill 3 Craigowl 3
Two minutes into the second half Craigowl took the lead for the first time when it was three forwards against the keeper, 3-4 (27) and could have gone further ahead when a header from a corner came back off the bar. Another corner caused difficulties for the Birkhill keeper and it was tapped in from a yard out, 3-5 (35). Scott Allardice returned a loose clearance into the empty net from 25 yards for the best goal of the day to extend Craigowl's lead, 3-6 (38). Craigowl finished off the scoring with a tap-in after Birkhill failed to clear their lines, 3-7 (41). Special mention to the Birkhill keeper who made a fantastic save to a vicious thunderbolt from Craigowl's Scott Allardice whose shot from near the halfway line was arrowing inside the far post - the keeper dived across the goal to push it onto the post and away.
Great entertainment for the fans, with lots of good football from both sides.

St.Mary's were too good for a young St.Ninian's side in the Linton Cup Final and ended up winning 5-0. St.Mary's scored early on and were always in control of the game, though St.Ninian's gave their best and had one or two good chances to test the St.Mary's defence.
The St.Ninian's keeper did well to keep St.Mary's out on several occasions but the strong performance from St.Mary's ensured the cup went back to Lochee.
Kieran Conway of St.Mary's won the Ross Kirk Man of the Match Trophy.

LINTON CUP FINAL - Elliot Road - Tues 1 June, 6.00 ST.NINIAN'S 0 ST.MARY'S 5
St.Mary's were too good for a young St.Ninian's side in the Linton Cup Final and ended up winning 5-0. St.Mary's scored early on and were always in control of the game, though St.Ninian's gave their best and had one or two good chances to test the St.Mary's defence.
The St.Ninian's keeper did well to keep St.Mary's out on several occasions but the strong performance from St.Mary's ensured the cup went back to Lochee.
Kieran Conway of St.Mary's won the Ross Kirk Man of the Match Trophy.

CAMERON CUP FINAL - Elliot Road - Tues 1 June, 7.00 CRAIGOWL 2 ST.ANDREW'S 3
The second game of the night was a very exciting Cameron Cup Final between Craigowl and St.Andrew's. Craigowl started as slight favourites after beating St.Andrew's 3-2 in the league in January and nearly scored in the first minute but the ball went narrowly wide. St.Andrew's, going up the hill in the first half, had an excellent chance in the 9th minute but the shot went well wide. Craigowl then had a shot heading for the top corner tipped away by the keeper and another chance well saved. Three minutes from halftime Craigowl scored with a low shot from the edge of the box into the corner of the net past the keeper's outstretched hand, 1-0 (22). Right on halftime St.Andrew's tucked the ball into the bottom corner for the equaliser, 1-1 (25).

Halftime : Craigowl 1 St.Andrew's 1
St.Andrew's should have taken the lead three minutes after halftime with a shot which was curling in at the far post, only for another St.Andrew's player to get his head to it and divert it past the near post. But six minutes later St.Andrew's took the lead when a shot from the right was going just wide until a Craigowl defender deflected the ball past his own keeper, 1-2 (34). Two minutes later St.Andrew's went further ahead when a high cross from the right created havoc in the Craigowl defence and from very close range St.Andrew's poked the ball into the roof of the net, 1-3 (36).
Craigowl came back into it and reduced the deficit four minutes later when a cross from the left was sidefooted in at the far post, 2-3 (40).
The last ten minutes saw plenty of action at both ends but no further goals.
Final score : Craigowl 2 St.Andrew's 3

Going up the slope in the second half Craigowl were still in command with several chances going just wide. Barnhill were not finding it easy to get back into the game but nearly pulled a goal back with 10 minutes left - the keeper managed to get a hand to it and then it was booted away from right on the line. That was the nearest Barnhill were to come and the game was put beyond doubt near the end when Scott Allardice found himself alone in front of the keeper with a simple task to head in.
Final score : Barnhill 0 Craigowl 4
Craigowl made up for their disappointment in losing the Cameron Cup Final to St.Andrew's the night before and Barnhill have another chance left when they play Forthill in the Burgess Cup Final on Friday.

ANGUS TROPHY CENTRE SMALL SCHOOLS CUP FINAL - Elliot Road - Fri 4 June, 6.00 ST.CLEMENT'S 6 ST.PIUS 1
The first ever Angus Trophy Centre Small Schools Cup Final was played in front of a good crowd in bright sunshine although a chilly wind. St.Clement's started well going downhill with the wind at their backs and took the lead in the first minute, followed by a fierce shot which crashed off the bar. St.Pius had to defend desperately at times and the keeper pulled off three good saves in succession. Two goals in a minute put St.Clement's in the driving seat but St.Pius tested the keeper with a couple of good attempts. St.Clement's scored again, then St.Pius forced the keeper to clear from under the bar. After conceding another St.Pius finally got on to the scoresheet, much to the delight of the crowd. Barnhill nearly scored in the 6th minute with the Forthill keeper almost letting the ball through his legs and then Forthill went upfield and shot just over.
Halftime : Barnhill 0 Forthill 0
The second half started with a good chance for Barnhill but the Forthill keeper dived bravely at the striker's feet to claim the ball. Ten minutes after halftime Forthill took the lead with a shot from out on the left which looped up high over the keeper to nestle in the net : 1-0 Forthill. Not long after Forthill nearly increased the lead but hit the post to force a corner. In the 17th minute Forthill went 2-0 up with a goal out of the blue - a long clearance down the hill from the Forthill keeper bounced twice and into the net without anybody else touching it. It is not often the keeper scores and the celebrations unusually took place on the Forthill goal line. Just one of the those things for the Barnhill keeper who had to come out to stop the Forthill striker reaching it, but the bounce of the ball beat everybody. Forthill finished the game off with a good move in the 20th minute ending in a ball lofted over the keeper from the edge of the box for 3-0. After a stalemate first half Forthill upped the tempo in the second half to lift the trophy.

FORTHILL DELIGHT AT WINNING THE BURGESS CUP
The last Primary Cup finals took place under grey skies at Invergowrie PS. If we did not have the sunshine of Elliot Road the previous week, we certainly made up for it with two gripping finals. The DCSFA Rock Cup Final between St.Andrew's and St.Joseph's was a cracker, probably the best of the seven, and the only one to go to extra-time. St.Andrew's were probably involved in the best two finals, and won them both.
ROCK CUP FINAL - Invergowrie PS - Mon 7 June, 6.00 ST.ANDREW'S 3 ST.JOSEPH'S 3 aet (2-0 pens)
Both sides set out to play attractive attacking football and the game flowed from end to end with both keepers in great form. St.Andrew's took the lead in the 17th minute when a free kick from well outside the box near the right touchline was lofted over the keeper. St.Joseph's hit back with an equaliser four minutes later when a low cross from the right was turned in from 4 yards at the far post with a clever flick.
Halftime : St.Andrew's 1 St.Joseph's 1
The second half was no different from the first, with lots of good football which had the large crowd enthralled. Fifteen minutes after halftime St.Joseph's went ahead for the first time with a free kick from the edge of the box which beat the keeper, 2-1 St.Joseph's. The lead only lasted a minute, as St.Andrew's were awarded a free kick and drilled it into the corner, 2-2. Four minutes later it was St.Andrew's who retook the lead with a shot off the post after a save from the St.Joseph's keeper, 3-2 St.Andrew's. The excitement mounted as St.Joseph's countered a couple of minutes later, hitting the right-hand post with a shot which rebounded to a St.Joseph's striker who slotted home the equaliser, 3-3 with about three minutes left on the clock.
The teams played out extra-time but despite the attacking play there were no further goals thanks to the impressive displays from both keepers.
After extra-time : St.Andrew's 3 St.Joseph's 3
The penalties were taken in the north goal, St.Andrew's scored their first one then St.Joseph's shot wide. St.Andrew's put the pressure on with a second successful kick, St.Joseph's had to score but saw their second shot saved and it was all over, so St.Andrew's won 2-0 on penalties.
A fantastic match from two good teams who had kept the crowd entertained from the first minute with their skill and commitment and both teams thoroughly deserved the warm reception at the end.

THOMSON CUP FINAL - Invergowrie PS - Mon 7 June, 7.00 CLEPINGTON 1 DENS ROAD 0

Clepington and Dens Road were both determined to win and set about the game full of passion and commitment, this was not a game for the faint-hearted. Both keepers were in good form and it was going to take something special to beat them. The only goal came in the 18th minute when Clepington were awarded a free kick on the left just outside the box. The free kick was hit towards the ruck of players on the near post and the Clepington striker flicked it up cleverly with his right foot to change the direction of the ball which went in at the far corner.
Halftime : Clepington 1 Dens Road 0
The second half was just as committed, no quarter was asked or given. Clepington had a shot whistle past the post then Dens Road went up the other end and did the same. The last quarter saw Dens Road increase the pressure in their attempt to get an equaliser and Clepington had to hang on at times. Five minutes from time Dens Road had three good chances in a matter of seconds, first they hit the post and when the ball bounced out they shot towards the other post but the keeper was able to get his hands to it and push it away - the ball came back to Dens Road who had another shot but this time it was gathered in by the keeper. Time ran out on the Dens Road pressure and Clepington were able to celebrate.
