MATCH REPORTS (League and early rounds of the Cup)
CRAIGOWL WIN SECTION A IN THE LAST GAME OF THE SEASON
Wed 20 June - Craigowl won the DFCSS Arab Trust Section A title with a good second-half display against Birkhill.
Birkhill should have taken the lead in the first minute from the penalty spot but the shot hit the post and rolled along the line. Soon after surviving this scare Craigowl hit back and took a 1-0 lead. The game was closely fought in the Myrekirk sunshine and Craigowl looked to take control when another shot hit the back of the net for 2-0.
BIRKHILL (GREEN / BLACK STRIPES) v. CRAIGOWL (WHITE SHIRTS, GREEN SHORTS) IN DFCSS ARAB TRUST SECTION A
But Birkhill did not give up and were soon back in it at 2-1, taking advantage of some dithering in the Craigowl defence. The goal gave Birkhill confidence to try for more and as they gained the upper hand they notched two goals to take a 3-2 lead. Craigowl rallied and Kieran Inglis hit a left-foot shot into the far corner to equalise at 3-3 before the halftime whistle paused the entertainment.

The second half was also end to end but the rush of goals from the first half seemed to have dried up. Craigowl's defence seemed to have sorted itself out and the Birkhill attacks were thwarted. The Birkhill keeper was forced into a few good saves as Craigowl applied the pressure.
Eventually a calm finish from Ryan Paterson put Craigowl back in front at 4-3. With Craigowl striking the bar and the post the Birkhill defence was under pressure and Ryan Paterson completed his hat-trick to wrap up the win and the league title for Craigowl.
Final score : Birkhill 3 Craigowl 5

LAST GASP EQUALISER FOR ST.CLEMENT'S AGAINST ST.PIUS IN 3-3 DRAW
Tues 9 Mar - Honours even at Myrekirk after a tremendous match between St.Clement's and St.Pius in the DFCSS Arab Trust Small Schools League. St.Clement's had most of the pressure at the start but St.Pius defended well and limited the danger. Midway through the half St.Clement's took the lead with a shot into the top corner past the keeper's outstretched left hand, 1-0. It was not long before St.Pius grabbed an equaliser with a speculative shot which caught the home keeper unawares and rolled inside the left-hand post, 1-1. But St.Clement's got the reward for their pressing play with a vicious shot which gave the St.Pius keeper absolutely no chance, 2-1.

ST.PIUS (PURPLE) CLEAR THE DANGER FROM A ST.CLEMENT'S (NAVY) ATTACK IN THE SMALL SCHOOLS LEAGUE
Not long after the break it was all square again - St.Clement's conceded a free kick 20 yards out and St.Pius struck the ball through a ruck of players and past the keeper into the net, 2-2. Worse was to follow soon after for the home team as St.Pius hit on the break through the middle and shot home to go into the lead for the first time, 2-3. St.Clement's did not give up and forced several corners as St.Pius had to spend most of the last quarter in defence. Despite being camped in the St.Pius half for the last 10 minutes, St.Clement's were not able to get anything on target....until the last minute when a well struck shot finally got the better of the St.Pius defence to make it 3-3 right on the final whistle. A draw was probably the fairest result, neither side deserved to lose an enthralling match.
Final score : St.Clement's 3 St.Pius 3
BIRKHILL SURVIVE ST.ANDREW'S SCARE
Tues 15 Nov - An exciting league match in DFCSS Arab Trust Section A between St.Andrew's and Birkhill almost had a cup-tie atmosphere with a grey sky, muddy pitch, two sides determined to attack, and a fascinating finish witnessed by a good crowd who emerged once the bell had sounded.
Birkhill struck early with a shot which hit the left-hand post and rebounded for an easy tap-in for the visitors, 0-1. St.Andrew's fought back and sent a shot just over the bar. In an end-to end first half Birkhill were always dangerous on the break but St.Andrew's had their chances as well. The home team nearly equalised following a corner which was not cleared and led to a stramash just in front of the goal - Birkhill defended desperately and the St.Andrew's efforts to stab the ball home were blocked. Five minutes from halftime Birkhill doubled their lead with a break down the middle, firing into the bottom left corner, 0-2.

Halftime : St.Andrew's 0 Birkhill 2
St.Andrew's made a superb fight of it as the second half got under way. Early in the half they hit the base of the left-hand post and in their next attack less than a minute later had another shot which hit exactly the same spot on the post - just no luck! Birkhill survived that spell of pressure but soon were picking the ball out of the net when a strong run through the centre finished with a shot from a few yards out, 1-2. St.Andrew's now had most of the possession and fired a couple of shots narrowly past the post, but Birkhill were always a threat and hit a post. Birkhill had to defend several corners and from one of them Birkhill broke quickly and forced the St.Andrew's keeper to parry the ball but could only knock the rebound wide. It seemed just a matter of time till St.Andrew's would equalise, but four minutes from the end Birkhill broke down the right and from just inside the box thumped in a ferocious shot into the roof of the net to seal full points, 1-3.
The home team fought till the final whistle and the last kick of the game was yet another St.Andrew's shot just missing the target by inches.
Superb entertainment which really brightened a gloomy November afternoon.
Final score : St.Andrew's 1 Birkhill 3

BIRKHILL (GREEN / BLACK) DEFEND A CORNER AT ST.ANDREW'S (BLUE) IN DFCSS ARAB TRUST SECTION A LATE GOALS SINK ST.CLEMENT'S
Wed 9 Nov - St.Clement's got off to a perfect start with an early goal in the Junior Sports Cup 1st Round against St.Luke's & St.Matthew's at Myrekirk, 1-0 (2m). But SSLM equalised when a corner on the right was not cleared and the ball beat the keeper low at the near post, 1-1 (14m). There were lots of chances for both teams in a very even first half, the best of which fell to SSLM three minutes before halftime with a header which flew just over the junction of bar and post.

ST.LUKE'S & ST.MATTHEW'S (BLACK / WHITE) GO THROUGH TO THE JUNIOR SPORTS CUP 2nd ROUND
The second half continued in the same vein with end-to-end football and very little between the teams. SSLM went into the lead for the first time not long after the break with a break from their own half - two strikers raced in against one defender, the ball was slipped from the centre to the right and fired home, 1-2 (32m). A minute later SSLM could have extended their lead but the fierce strike went narrowly wide. St.Clement's were not behind for long, breaking up the left wing and the well-struck shot seemed to have been saved by the keeper a few yards from the line, but the ball bounced on and over the line for the equaliser, 2-2 (37m). St.Clement's might have gone in front again a minute later, but the chance went just over the bar. Three minutes left, extra-time looming and the light disappearing fast, SSLM regained the lead winning the loose ball on the edge of the box and calmly stroking it under the keeper, 2-3 (47m). Home hopes were finally dashed in the last minute as SSLM pressed forward again, passed to the right and drilled the ball past the keeper, 2-4 (50m). In time added on SSLM finished the game with another well-hit strike from the left, 2-5 (50+2m).
Final score : St.Clement's 2 St.Luke's & St.Matthew's 5
The result probably flatters SSLM somewhat as there were not really three goals of a difference but SSLM now go through to face the winners of St.Vincent's v. Hillside at home in the 2nd Round, while St.Clement's have the consolation of a place in the Banks Trophy at the end of the season.

The result probably flatters SSLM somewhat as there were not really three goals of a difference but SSLM now go through to face the winners of St.Vincent's v. Hillside at home in the 2nd Round, while St.Clement's have the consolation of a place in the Banks Trophy at the end of the season.

CRAIGOWL HANG ON AGAINST HILLSIDE FIGHTBACK
Mon 7 Nov - Craigowl and Hillside served up a proverbial game of two halves in DFCSS Arab Trust Section A.
Craigowl took control of the game right from the start and scored in the second minute when a corner was not cleared, and another goal followed almost straight from the kick-off to double Craigowl's advantage. When Craigowl added a third goal in the sixth minute, Hillside must have feared the worst.

When Craigowl added a third goal in the sixth minute, Hillside must have feared the worst.
However Hillside won a free kick a minute later and, though it was well outside the box, the free kick was hit with such venom that it zoomed into the top left corner. The Craigowl keeper got his fingers to it but could not do anything to stop the perfect strike from hitting the net, Craigowl 3 Hillside 1. Midway through the half Craigowl restored their three-goal lead and another goal late in the half looked to put the result beyond doubt at 5-1 but Hillside scored right on halftime to reduce the leeway and make it more interesting.
Halftime : Craigowl 5 Hillside 2
Halftime : Craigowl 5 Hillside 2
Craigowl increased their lead again six minutes after the interval to go 6-2 up and the full points seemed secure. But Hillside then started a spirited fightback with a goal four minutes later, 6-3. The Hillside keeper and defence were now rising to the task and denied the Craigowl strikers at every opportunity. Hillside hit on the break to pull back two goals in two minutes with seven minutes left to make the score Craigowl 6 Hillside 5 and set up a fascinating climax to the game. The game was now wide open and the next goal would be crucial - Craigowl upped the pace to create several good chances but the Hillside keeper dealt with everything.
The late Craigowl pressure did not allow Hillside too many opportunities to grab an equaliser though. The final whistle sounded to Craigowl's relief and nobody could deny them the win after their blistering start, but great credit must go to Hillside for the way they fought back after going so far behind.

It was only 5 minutes after the interval when Dens Road went ahead for the first time, latching on to a through ball from the halfway line and striking it in firmly from 5 yards out, 2-1.
Dens Road had a corner 5 minutes later which was cleared and Clepington raced away down the left and thumped the ball past the keeper into the far corner, 2-2. A minute later Clepington had the chance to go back in front after a penalty award for a mistimed tackle in the box, but the kick went wide of the right-hand post.
Clepington's keeper was then forced into a couple of good saves as Dens Road piled on the pressure, and with 9 minutes left a Dens Road free kick from the halfway line was turned past the keeper from close range, 3-2. The Clepington keeper was in action again soon after, tipping away a 25 yard shot for a corner and in the last minute Dens Road hit the bar and had the ball cleared off the line.

ST.JOSEPH'S AND GOWRIEHILL SERVE UP GREAT ENTERTAINMENT
Fri 23 Sept - The first game in DFCSS Arab Trust Section A ended in a comfortable 5-0 victory for St.Joseph's but Gowriehill made them fight all the way and were unlucky not to have a goal or two to their credit.
Gowriehill attacked from the start and created a couple of chances in the first minute. St.Joseph's survived and went up the other end to earn a corner from which they opened the scoring, 0-1 (1m).
Play raged from end to end for the next ten minutes then St.Joseph's nearly went two up but for a piece of luck for the Gowriehill keeper - a St.Joseph's shot was going wide of the goal and the keeper decided to play it with feet rather than pick it up, only for the ball to bounce away towards the goal, hit the post and come back into the keeper's arms. A heart in the mouth moment for Gowriehill.
St.Joseph's conceded a free kick wide on the right and Gowriehill nearly equalised when the free kick bounced on top of the bar and away for a goal kick. St.Joseph's added a second with a run up the right and shot from close range which the keeper could not keep out, 0-2 (14m). Gowriehill then hit both posts in the space of a minute, when a corner was touched onto the far post and, after the ball was not cleared properly, Gowriehill fired in a hard shot which hit the other post and bounced to safety. St.Joseph's won a free kick on the edge of the box just before halftime and the goalbound shot was tipped over the bar for a corner.

GOWRIEHILL (BLUE) v. ST.JOSEPH'S (YELLOW / BLUE) IN DFCSS ARAB TRUST SECTION A
St.Joseph's took only six minutes of the second half to find the net again, when Gowriehill could not clear their lines and the ball was hammered in from 8 yards, 0-3 (31m). Midway through the half St.Joseph's wrapped up the result when a superb cross-shot from the right hit the bar and bounced out to a striker who finished from close range, 0-4 (38m). Gowriehill pressed hard for a goal, first a dangerous cross from the left was just over the heads of the attackers, then a solo effort a minute later looked destined for a goal as a burst through the middle beat defender after defender, but just as the right foot was preparing to put the ball in the back of the net, the ball bobbled and it became a fresh-air shot - even the home supporters saw the funny side of it. Another Gowriehill attack brought about the best chance late on, a run down the left and ferocious shot pulling a reflex save from the keeper. After surviving all this pressure St.Joseph's attacked again and completed the scoring in the last minute with a shot which deflected off a defender, 0-5 (50m). Gowriehill finished the game still searching for a consolation goal, but St.Joseph's were able to defend the corner and the final whistle blew - the supporters of both sides showed their appreciation with a round of applause for both teams who had given it everything.

LATE SURGE GIVES DENS ROAD FULL POINTS IN SEASON'S OPENER
Tues 13 Sept - The first Primary game of the season kicked off in blustery conditions at Gussie Park. Craigiebarns and Dens Road had agreed to switch venues for the Arab Trust DFCSS Section C game, perhaps just as well with the doubtful weather of the past few days. Craigiebarns opened the scoring from a free kick after four minutes but Dens Road deserved their equaliser ten minutes later when a diagonal ball to the far post was turned in from close range. In a very even first half there were plenty of chances but no further goals. Halftime 1-1.

DENS ROAD (CLARET / BLUE) AND CRAIGIEBARNS (RED / WHITE) IN ARAB TRUST DFCSS SECTION C
The second half started with Dens Road forcing the Craigiebarns keeper into a number of good saves but a low drive into the far corner finally beat his outstretched arm, and Dens Road went 2-1 up. Dens Road had most of the chances in the second half but were frequently denied by the excellent Craigiebarns keeper, and it was only in the latter stages that Dens Road made the pressure count.

Six minutes from the end Dens Road scored a well-taken goal to lead 3-1, fending off strong challenges from defence and goalkeeper. A minute later more pressure made it 4-1 and there was no mercy for the Craigiebarns defence as Dens Road added another from a forceful run through the centre followed by a fierce shot, 5-1. With two minutes left Dens Road completed the scoring with another quality move, a cross from the left being turned in deftly at the far post.

CUP FINAL REPORTS
Mon 28 May - Cup Finals week kicked off with a double header at Elliot Road. Unfortunately the warmth of the previous week had all but vanished by kick-off time and a cold wind was blowing across the park. In the first game Dens Road and SS Peter & Paul contested a close Thomson Cup Final. Both teams had met ten days before in the Banks Trophy 5-a-sides final and again it was SS Peter & Paul who came out on top with a narrow win. Playing up the slope in the first half they took the lead in the 5th minute following a move up the right, slotting home the rebound for 0-1.
The eagerness of both teams to win the ball meant that the referee's whistle was in frequent action to break up play and award free kicks. Dens Road equalised near halftime with a firm right-foot strike into the far corner, 1-1 (22m). The second half was also end-to-end and one goal near the end decided it, SS Peter & Paul scoring a quality goal when a pass from the right across the edge of the box was hit beyond the keeper at his far post, 1-2 (45m). Dens Road had one last chance to equalise from close range but the keeper got down to save it and keep SSPP in front till the final whistle.
SS PETER & PAUL WITH THE THOMSON CUP AFTER A CLOSE GAME WITH DENS ROAD
The second game of the night was the Angus Trophy Centre Small Schools Cup Final between St.Ninian's and St.Pius. After an evenly fought first quarter St.Ninian's grabbed the initiative with three goals in five minutes up the hill. A break up the right led to the first, then a goal from a corner, then a break on the left gave St.Ninian's a 3-0 lead. St.Pius had the chance to reduce the leeway when they were awarded a penalty shortly after but the keeper saved the shot to dent the St.Pius hopes of recovery.

Five minutes after the interval a fierce St.Ninian's shot was almost gathered by the St.Pius keeper but it was too strong for him and St.Ninian's went 4 up. With the result now beyond doubt St.Ninian's added to their tally but St.Pius showed a lot of spirit and were determined to get on the scoresheet. Shortly before the end they got the reward their attitude deserved with a well-taken consolation goal to finish the scoring at 6-1, before St.Ninian's were presented with the trophy.
ST.NINIAN'S, WINNERS OF THE ANGUS TROPHY CENTRE SMALL SCHOOLS CUP
Tues 29 May - Just one game was scheduled for Tuesday night but it was an absolute cracker. The Cameron Cup Final was a repeat of last year with Downfield and Craigowl playing for the trophy. A light drizzle ensured that the ball would zip smartly along the surface. Play swung from one end to the other with Downfield perhaps having the edge coming down the hill. But it was Craigowl who opened the scoring from a quick break up the right, 0-1 (9m). Downfield replied immediately and thumped in an equaliser within seconds, 1-1 (9m). Downfield started to take control and forced a series of corners, hitting the bar and making Craigowl head clear just over the goal. Five minutes from halftime Downfield took the lead for the first time, a firm low cross from the right hitting off a defender to fly in for an own goal, 2-1 (20m). Craigowl then managed to stop a further goal with some last-ditch defending. Right on halftime Downfield won another corner on the right, and the dangerous ball was deftly touched into the back of the net for a great finish, 3-1 (25m).

The second half saw the tables turned, Downfield struggled to make any progress up the park and Craigowl were soon back in it with a goal, 3-2 (32m). Worse was to follow for Downfield soon after when Craigowl levelled with the best goal of the night, a superb left-foot strike from Kieran Inglis into the far corner, 3-3 (35m). The rest of the game passed without any further goals despite lots of action and so it was on to 5 minutes each way extra-time.
And what an extra-time! With nobody able to score for the last fifteen minutes of normal time, suddenly everybody went daft and there were goals all over the place, 6 in 10 minutes. The first period had only just started when Downfield scored out of the blue - a shot from the left touchline near the halfway line took a couple of bounces and beat the keeper, 4-3 (51m). Downfield had a good chance to increase the lead but headed over. Two minutes from the turnaround a Craigowl free kick found the bottom corner, 4-4 (54m) but Downfield hit straight back, breaking down the hill and shooting through the keeper, 5-4 (55m).
If Downfield had struggled going up the slope in the second half of normal time, it was a total change in the second half of extra-time. With Robbie Fleming completing his hat-trick and more, Downfield romped through the Craigowl defence and netted three times to take the score up to 8-4.
At the end of a terrific match Robbie Fleming (Downfield) was presented with the Stephen Gowans Man of the Match Award before both sides received their medals and Downfield lifted the Cameron Cup for the second year in a row. But credit to both sides for providing such excellent entertainment!

DOWNFIELD RETAIN THE CAMERON CUP AFTER AN EXTRA-TIME WIN OVER CRAIGOWL
Wed 30 May - The Wednesday games took place on another dull damp evening, but once again the gloom was lifted by the efforts on the park. The 6.00 game was a repeat of last year's Linton Cup Final when Ancrum Road conceded a late equaliser to St.Mary's who went on to win in extra-time. This time the roles were reversed, and Ancrum Road came out on top. They had to come back twice from a goal down however in an exciting game. St.Mary's took an early lead from a free kick which squirmed through the keeper's legs, 0-1 (3m). Ancrum Road were level not long after with a quick break up the slope and a strong finish inside the right-hand post, 1-1 (10m). Ancrum Road almost took the lead five minutes later with a high ball from the left which just floated past the far post. But it was St.Mary's who went into the break a goal up when they took advantage of defensive slackness and rammed the loose ball high into the net from close range, 1-2 (20m).

Ancrum Road were back level again soon after halftime, when it was their turn to thrash the ball into the net, 2-2 (29m). Ancrum Road started to apply concerted pressure on the St.Mary's goal, with the goalkeeper tipping one shot away and seconds later a header just clearing the bar. After yet another chance for the Royal Blues, it was St.Mary's who nearly regained the lead with 10 minutes left when the Ancrum Road keeper could not hold on to a ball on the ground and only a tremendous Ancrum tackle stopped St.Mary's. With six minutes to go Ancrum Road reacted quickly to go ahead for the first time in the match - a free kick was heading for the net when it was inadvertently blocked by an Ancrum player standing in front of the keeper, but it broke kindly to another Ancrum striker who flighted the ball into the top corner, 3-2 (42m). Ancrum Road wrapped it up in style with a superb goal in the last minute, running down the right wing, coming inside and unleashing a ferocious strike which beat the keeper all ends up, 4-2 (50).
The final whistle sounded seconds later, setting off tremendous scenes of celebration amid the Ancrum Road ranks, while St.Mary's fell to the ground. After a few minutes to recover, both teams received great applause from the large crowd, Brian Rice of St.Mary's received the Ross Kirk Man of the Match Trophy and both teams were presented with their medals by DSFA President Neil Lowden who then handed over the Linton Cup to Ancrum Road.
ANCRUM ROAD WIN THE LINTON CUP AFTER AN ENTHRALLING GAME WITH ST.MARY'S
The excitement of the first game was going to be hard to follow and the Burgess Cup Final between Forthill and Barnhill took a little time to warm up. In a fairly even first half the only real chance midway through the half produced a goal, Barnhill firing a vicious shot past the Forthill keeper, 0-1 (12m). Barnhill were in no mood to let this one slip and right after the break increased their lead with persistent attacking taking advantage of defensive frailty to slam in a close-range effort, 0-2 (27m). Soon after two goals in two minutes seemed to put the result beyond doubt - first a darting run down through the middle finishing with a chip which foxed the keeper, 0-3 (34m), and then a long-range shot which crept in at the far post, 0-4 (35m).

With the game seemingly won, Barnhill then let their opponents back into the game. The Barnhill keeper made his only mistake of the night, holding on to the ball for more than six seconds for which the referee awarded an indirect free kick. Forthill took full advantage of the error and scored from the free kick, 1-4 (41m). Heartened by the goal, Forthill pulled another one back immediately and a comeback looked on the cards - a hard shot was only parried by the keeper and Forthill smashed in the rebound to set up an interesting last ten minutes, 2-4 (42m). Forthill hit two powerful strikes from distance but the Barnhill keeper was back in control. Barnhill attacked and had a possible penalty claim waved away, before Forthill had another couple of opportunities to reduce Barnhill's lead. But it was Barnhill who finished on top, with a Forthill defender having to head over his own bar for a corner. The final whistle brought the game to a close and Barnhill lifted the cup for the first time since 1989. The two sides meet again in exactly a week's time in the Junior Sports Cup Final.
BARNHILL WITH THE BURGESS CUP AFTER A 4-2 WIN AGAINST FORTHILL
Wed 6 June - A week later and the weather was even worse for the last of the finals. The rain throughout the day became particularly heavy an hour before kick-off and there was uncertainty about whether to proceed. But it was decided to go ahead and set up the goals and attempts to drain some of the wetter parts of the pitch were helped significantly when the rain started to ease.
In the first game St.Luke's & St.Matthew's beat St.Clement's 2-1 in an extremely tight Fairtrade Football Rock Cup Final.

In the first game St.Luke's & St.Matthew's beat St.Clement's 2-1 in an extremely tight Fairtrade Football Rock Cup Final.
Considering the poor weather a good crowd turned out with an array of umbrellas to watch the proceedings. St.Clement's playing up the hill in the first half pressed hard from the start and took the lead in the 3rd minute with a firm finish past the keeper from a few yards out, 1-0. St.Luke's & St.Matthew's managed to sort themselves out and prevent any further defensive damage and worked their way back into the game. Midway through the half they broke down the slope into the area and, as the keeper came off his line, slipped the ball low past his left hand for the equaliser, 1-1. As halftime approached St.Clement's survived with a piece of good fortune, a fierce SSLM shot from the left striking the keeper on the knee before smacking off the bar and away to safety.
The second half continued to be extremely even, and it looked like extra-time could be a distinct possibility. Both sides had chances but the keepers were proving hard to beat. With seven minutes to play St.Luke's & St.Matthew's went into the lead for the first time knocking the rebound past the keeper after the initial shot had been blocked, 1-2.
MAN OF THE MATCH CONNOR GILMARTIN ON THE ATTACK FOR ST.CLEMENT'S
St.Clement's went all out for an equaliser but it was not to be. St.Luke's & St.Matthew's, having come from behind, held on to win the cup for the first time and make up for the disappointment of being runners-up in last year's final. Connor Gilmartin of St.Clement's received the Nick Marra Man of the Match Award at the end of the match before St.Luke's & St.Matthew's lifted the trophy.

The last match was the Junior Sports Cup Final, featuring local derby rivals Forthill and Barnhill who had met a week before in the Burgess Cup Final. Barnhill won that one 4-2 and were keen to add the Junior Sports Cup to their haul.
Barnhill had never won the cup in their history and Forthill had last won in 2007. Both sides had been in the final in recent years, Forthill losing out in 2011, Barnhill in 2010. By kick-off time the rain had disappeared leaving a damp misty evening which had been the regular feature of this year's finals.

By kick-off time the rain had disappeared leaving a damp misty evening which had been the regular feature of this year's finals.
Both sides looked up for it and were determined to show the skills of the East as they tried to gain the upper hand. Halfway through the first period it was the yellow and greens from Barnhill who opened the scoring through Tom Banyard, 0-1. Fraser Burnett, the Forthill keeper, made a couple of excellent saves to keep his team in contention but as halftime approached Barnhill's Tom Banyard took the ball on the right, came inside a defender and turned to fire a left-foot shot from close range past the keeper's left hand, 0-2.
BARNHILL (YELLOW / GREEN) GO TWO UP
Barnhill continued to threaten in the second half but the nearest they came was hitting the post, as the Forthill keeper and defence did their jobs well. Barnhill's keeper meanwhile made sure that any Forthill attacks came to an abrupt end, as he was determined to keep a clean sheet. So an entertaining game drew the Primary Finals to a close with Barnhill winning 2-0. Barnhill thus completed a first-ever treble, winning the Arab Trust DFCSS Section D title, the Burgess Cup and now the Junior Sports Cup.
At the end of the match DSFA President Neil Lowden made particular mention of Forthill's application and good play, and the runners-up were warmly applauded by everybody. It was only fitting that Forthill keeper Fraser Burnett won the Bill Ferrier Man of the Match Trophy for a great display. After that the players received their medals then Barnhill were presented with the Junior Sports Cup for the first time in their history.
