LATEST NEWS
Wednesday 28th June
Mearns beat Arbroath HS 7-2 in the Angus Soccer One League. Arbroath HS needed to win their last league game in order to draw level with Webster's and force a play-off. An early goal for the visitors kept the dream alive but Mearns gave warning by hitting the post. Mearns drew level and then went 2-1 up from a free kick into the top corner. An Arbroath HS corner could have brought an equaliser but instead Mearns broke quickly from the corner and shot from the right wing low into the far corner of the net for 3-1 Mearns were on fire right after halftime with a lob over the keeper in 2 minutes and a header from a corner in 4 minutes to put the Laurencekirk boys 5-1 ahead. A contender for goal of the season came in the 10th minute of the half when Mearns striker Harry Woods chased the ball along with a defender to the bye-line - just when it looked like the pace of the ball would make it run out of play, Harry Woods kept the ball in and fooled the defender (as well as spectators) with a brilliant piece of skill, turned and smashed the ball from an extremely tight angle past the AHS keeper into the net, 6-1, superb play! Arbroath HS fought back and scored from distance to make it 6-2 but a trip in the box gave Mearns a penalty and the spot-kick was scored for 7-2. And so the season came to an end, and with this result Webster's win the league. Photos to come.
Monday 26th June
Baldragon beat Grove 3-1 to win the Arab Trust U15 Champions League. In the last game of the group Grove needed a win to force a play-off with Harris while a win for Baldragon would give them the title. A hard-fought encounter at DISC saw Baldragon take the lead in the 4th minute with a great finish from Nairn Bonnar. Grove had a good shout for a penalty turned down and also hit the bar with a free kick but at halftime it was 1-0 for Baldragon. With no quarter given or asked the game continued to be hotly contested in the second half. In the 54th minute Nairn Bonnar broke down the left and thumped a shot past the keeper into the net for 2-0. Grove were awarded a soft free kick in the 62nd minute but made the most of it to score direct and it was game on, 2-1. Baldragon hit a shot from distance which the Grove keeper did brilliantly to leap to his right and tip the ball away. With time almost up a Baldragon corner on the right was met inside the 6-yard box by a Grove defender who could only steer the ball into the net for an own goal, 3-1. So the season in Dundee came to an end with Baldragon lifting the Arab Trust U15 Shield. Baldragon went through the league season undefeated to win the U15 League for the first time ever, not bad for a team who had to play all their games away from home because of building works! Photos to come.
Friday 23rd June
Webster's beat Carnoustie 8-1 in the Angus Soccer One League. In the earliest kick-off of the season (around 9.50) Webster's scored early and by halftime they were 5-0 ahead. Carnoustie pulled one back in the second half from the spot following a handball but Webster's add three more. Depending on the result of Wednesday's game between Mearns and Arbroath HS the win could give Webster's the title or at least a play-off place. See photos.
Thursday 22nd June
Harris beat Grove 6-2 in the Arab Trust U15 Champions League. Playing down the slope at Lochee Park Harris scored two in a minute midway through the first half and led 3-0 at halftime. Harris went 5 up before Grove pulled one back immediately from a free kick. Harris made it 6-1 in the last minute and Grove responded with a good finish from the right wing to end the scoring. Photos to come.
Tuesday 20th June
Grove beat St.John's 6-0 in the U16 Robert Caira Memorial Trophy Final at Station Park, Forfar. Fraser McLeod (Grove) won the DFCSS Man of the Match Trophy presented by Carol Findlay of DFCSS. After an even start Grove got into their stride and scored twice before a foul in the box which gave them the chance for a third from the penalty spot. A great turn and shot from the edge of the box gave Grove a 4-0 lead at halftime. St.John's made a good game of it in the second half and for 25 minutes after the break the defences were on top but Grove scored a couple of goals in the last ten minutes to finish with 6. Photos to come.
St.John's beat Grove 4-0 in the Arab Trust DSA Senior Champions League decider. On a sunny evening at Station Park, Forfar, St.John's started strongly with Nathan Scott scoring the first with a run down the right and a low finish (7m). Craig Kemlo outpaced the defence and beat the keeper on the 6 yard line five minutes later for the second (12m). Grove conceded a free kick 20 yards out on the left and Kieran Conway got a touch at the far post for 3-0, (25m). Grove fought back well in the second half and kept the St.John's defence under pressure for the first 15 minutes but keeper Michael Ellwood continued his good form with some fine saves and looked determined to keep a clean sheet. St.John's got their fourth with just three minutes left when Ross Graham headed in a corner on the left to finish the scoring and wrap up the double, 4-0 (87m). Photos to come.
Friday 16th June
St.Andrew's beat Downfield 7-4 in the Cameron Cup Final. Aiden McDougall (St.Andrew's) won the Stephen Gowans Man of the Match Trophy presented by Stephen's sister Jennifer. In a rip-roaring first half Downfield took an early lead but St.Andrew's were soon back in the match and scored four to go 4-1 up. Downfield fought back and scored twice in quick succession so at halftime St.Andrew's led 4-3. In the second half St.Andrew's scored twice to go 6-3 ahead but Downfield were not giving up and netted a 4th. St.Andrew's finished the goalfest to make the final score 7-4 and add the Cameron Cup to the Rock Cup they won on Monday. Photos to come.
Barnhill beat St.Joseph's 3-0 in the Junior Sports Cup Final. Lucas McKimmie (Barnhill) won the Bill Ferrier Man of the Match Trophy. Both Barnhill and St.Joseph's had been in action on Wednesday winning the Burgess and Linton Cups respectively and for St.Joseph's it was their third final of the week so perhaps they were not quite as sharp as Barnhill on the night. Midway through the first half Barnhill scored the opener and a second goal a minute from halftime gave Barnhill the upper hand. The second half had barely started when Barnhill netted a third. St.Joseph's tried hard to get back into the game but Barnhill were calm in defence and made life difficult for the St.Joseph's attack. Barnhill remained unbeaten for the second year in a row and won the treble again. This brought to an end a great week of Primary Finals at Elliot Road and the weather every night was good which made it great for the spectators who turned out in good numbers to enjoy the football served up. Photos to come.
Thursday 15th June
Forfar beat Montrose 5-4 in the Angus Soccer One League. In the last league game for both teams Forfar came from two goals down to win.
Grove beat Monifieth 2-0 in the Arab Trust U15 Champions League. A big crowd gathered on the touchline at Monifieth for the lunchtime kick-off (though they did have to drift back into school after the first twenty minutes when the afternoon bell sounded). The game started with a quick shower of rain (ironic after last week's postponement) and a blast of wind but the weather soon settled and the fans were treated to a good even game. There were no goals until the half-hour when a Louis Porter free kick for Grove was not gathered properly and the ball squirmed out of the keeper's hands into the net. Monifieth had a chance to level in the second half but ten minutes from the end Josh Mulligan scored a second for Grove when he took a Greg Breen pass and slipped it past the keeper into the bottom corner. Monifieth have now completed their CL games and it is now over to Grove, Harris and Baldragon to decide the championship, although Monifieth won both the Angus Cup and the Senior Sports Cup (sponsored by DFCSS). Photos to come.
Wednesday 14th June
St.Joseph's beat Ancrum Road 1-0 in the Linton Cup Final. Cody Holt (St.Joseph's) won the Ross Kirk Man of the Match Trophy. There was nothing between the teams in a good competitive final at Elliot Road and at halftime it was 0-0. It looked like one goal would win it and four minutes after the break St.Joseph's scored a goal with a superb strike from the halfway lline which beat the Ancrum Road keeper all ends up. There was plenty of time left either for Ancrum Road to equalise or for St.Joseph's to move further ahead in an end-to-end game. Ancrum Road came closest, hitting the bar late in the game. St.Joseph's regained the trophy they lost to Ancrum Road last season in a great start to the three-game night - an enthralling encounter which kept the fans on tenterhooks till the final whistle, with a quality goal fit to win any final. Photos to come.
Fintry beat Craigiebarns 5-0 in the Thomson Cup Final. Fintry were on top form in all departments, to the point where the first-half goalkeeper came back on as a second-half outfield sub and scored four goals. Craigiebarns came extremely close to grabbing a couple of goals, particularly near the end - they certainly did not let anybody down as they turned in a good performance but Fintry were in a class of their own as they went on to retain the trophy. Photos to come.
Barnhill beat Forthill 3-0 in the Burgess Cup Final. In the last of the evening's three finals at Elliot Road it was Barnhill going down the hill who took the lead in the 9th minute and added a second four minutes later. Barnhill went 3 up just before halftime and then defended well against Forthill in the second half, denying them any chance of pulling back a consolation effort. Barnhill held on to the Burgess Cup for the fourth year in a row. Again we had two good teams playing to their best on a lovely summer evening and a great night to showcase the talent of the Primary Leagues. Photos to come.
Tuesday 13th June
Clepington v. Claypotts Castle in Arab Trust DSA Section D was off.
Webster's v. Carnoustie in the Angus Soccer One League was off.
Grove beat Craigie 9-0 in the U16 Dundee United Cup Final (sponsored by Arab Trust). Grove took an early lead at Whitton Park and carried on from there. Craigie never gave up and the Craigie keeper produced many good saves to keep the score down but Grove were in top form and were hard to resist. At the end Stuart Campbell from Arab Trust presented both teams with their medals and the Dundee United Cup to Grove. Photos to come.
St.John's beat Grove 2-1 in the Senior Johnston Trophy Final. Ross Graham (St.John's) won the Lee Walker Man of the Match Trophy. In the second game of the Whitton Park double-header there were no goals in the first half, though Fraser Burnett in the Grove goal kept his team in it with several fine saves. Ben Russell put St.John's in front in the second half, Adam Brown equalised for Grove and also rattled the bar but Nathan Scott hit the winner for St.John's. Grove had one chalked off for offside late in the game but St.John's held on to win. Photos to come.

Grove beat Harris 3-0 in the U13 Logie Cup Final (sponsored by DFCSS). Nathan Chew (Grove) won the DFCSS Man of the Match Trophy. A week after a 6-0 defeat in the league Grove turned on the style in the first half at Whitton Park and scored twice through good strikes from Leon Winterton and hit the frame of the goal on at least 5 occasions. The Harris keeper did his best to make sure that Grove were not allowed a bigger lead with some great saves. Harris came back with some pressure towards the end of the first half but could not break through - instead Grove added a third in the second half through Owen Boath. Harris did at least pick up the DSA U13 League Shield and their league medals at the end, before Grove received their winners medals and the Logie Cup, sponsored by DFCSS. Photos to come.
St.John's beat Grove 3-0 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the U17 George Grant Memorial Trophy Final (sponsored by DFCSS) at Whitton Park. After a goalless first half Grove opened the scoring early in the second half through Tom Banyard and a goal from Josh Mulligan looked to put Grove in command. A header from Ethan Bannon at the far post gave St.John's hope with a few minutes left. An injury-time equaliser from Ethan Bannon again put the game into a penalty shoot-out. Grove had their first kick saved and St.John's scored theirs. And so it continued - Grove could not find the target with any of their first three, St.John's scored all three so the penalty shoot-out was over in the quickest time possible.
Lennon Mitchell (St.John's) received the DFCSS Man of the Match Trophy from Dave Forbes who then presented the medals to the teams as the sun went down. Photos to come.

Barnhill beat St.Mary's 7-2 in the Junior Sports Cup Semifinal and play Ancrum Road or St.Joseph's in the final. The first half was very even, Barnhill scoring twice and St.Mary's pulling one back for 2-1 (3 goals in 96 seconds), then a St.Mary's equaliser before Barnhill regained the lead at 3-2. Barnhill cruised out of sight of their opponents in the second half though and can look forward to another visit to the Junior Sports Cup Final. Photos to come.
Friday 2nd June
St.Joseph's beat Camperdown 6-1 in the Linton Cup Semifinal. Camperdown led for most of the first half but St.Joseph's who had had an earlier chance tipped onto the bar equalised right on halftime. Camperdown hit the post early in the second half but St.Joseph's struck the target next to go 2-1 up. Two goals in a couple of minutes tipped the balance in favour of St.Joseph's who added another two in two minutes late in the game.
St.Joseph's reached their second final in what was a fairly even game despite the 5-goal margin - they will need to wait till next Friday to see whether they face Ancrum Road or St.Mary's in the final. See photos.
St.Andrew's beat St.Mary's 6-5 in an exciting Fairtrade Football Rock Cup Semifinal (sponsored by Walker the Jeweller) and play St.Joseph's in the final.
Webster's beat Forfar 6-0 in the Angus Soccer One League.
Thursday 1st June
St.John's beat Grove 5-0 in the DSA U14 Champions League. St.John's needed to avoid defeat in their last game to win the league. An early Jaden Ferguson header from the edge of the box over the onrushing keeper gave St.John's the lead and they were two up at the interval. Grove made a good game of it but St.John's were on top form, showing the quality which saw them reach the Shield Semifinal. Jaden Ferguson was hard to stop up front and scored all five goals including a penalty. St.John's wrap up the season with the league and cup double. See photos.

Soon after Ryan McInnes hit a wonder strike from 35 yards over the keeper for 2-0. A goal three minutes after halftime made it 3-0. Harris defended well against Grove attacks and their finishing was clinical with Scott Buchanan completing a hat-trick to give Harris the title. They will receive the league shield at next week's cup final. See photos.
Tuesday 30th May
Barnhill beat Ancrum Road 4-3 in Arab Trust DSA Section D. Barnhill trailed 2-0 but came back with two goals either side of halftime to lead 4-2 before Ancrum Road scored a third to set up an exciting finale. Barnhill held on to win 4-3 and so win the league with 7 wins out of 7.
Downfield beat Craigowl 9-4 in the Cameron Cup Semifinal and play St.Andrew's in the final.
Eastern beat St.Luke's & St.Matthew's 5-2 in the Burgess Cup 1st Round and play Forthill in the semifinal.
Monifieth beat Arbroath HS 4-2 in the S3 Angus Cup Final at Forfar. Monifieth led 2-0 at halftime but AHS pulled one back in the second half. After a pleasant dry first half the rain started after the break and became quite heavy at times but the game was always interesting. Monifieth went 3-1 up, AHS made it 3-2, Monifieth regained their 2-goal lead at 4-2 and the last big chance was an Arbroath HS free kick which bounced down off the bar and away to safety as far as Monifieth were concerned. With that Monifieth win the Angus and Dundee cup double. Photos to come.
Broxburn Ac. beat Banff Ac. 3-1 at Forfar in the U15 Girls Shield Final. The early afternoon rain had disappeared but was replaced by a strong wind and glorious sunshine. Banff led 1-0 at halftime from a corner which had everybody confused, probably going in off a defender at the near post. Broxburn had the wind behind them in the second half and duly punished Banff with three goals, though at 3-1 they had a chance for another from the penalty spot but the keeper easily saved. Photos to come.

Grove scored in the first couple of minutes with a header and led 3-0 at the interval. thanks to a penalty for a trip for the third and a tremendous goal for the second - a cross from the left to outside the far post, a quick ball across the goal where it was converted a few yards out. An early goal in the second half put Grove further ahead, an excellent strike from outside the box dipped over the keeper for 5-0 and the game was finished as a contest. Despite missing a few players on the day for various reasons the 16 who played for Dundee A and B enjoyed the Edinburgh sunshine and played some good football to finish in 2nd place overall. The only defeats for the As and Bs were in the games against East Ayrshire who have been strong all season so no disgrace there. But for a poor Day 1 back in December Dundee could have been challenging more strongly against the East Ayrshire teams, but they have been consistent all year and deserved to win the tournament. Dundee have played well on Days 2 and 3 so the 2nd place behind East Ayrshire is no mean feat.
Each side played one goalless draw in the group stage and both ended with a 3-2-1 record to finish with 11 points. The race to become top scorer was on between Aiden Lockhart and Morgan Garden, Aiden Lockhart netting 4 to keep just ahead of Morgan Garden who scored 5 on the day.
Scorers for the season : Lockhart 10, Garden 8, Lorimer 4, McDougall 4, Burnett 3, Peprah 3, Pert 3, Cleall-Harding 2, Duguid 2, Lawson 2, og 2, Petrie 2, Slater 2, Anderson 1, Heenan 1, Kyles 1, McKimmie 1

Wednesday 1st February
In Day 1 of the Dundee Junior Sevens Craigiebarns beat Craigowl 3-0 in the final to qualify for the North Finals on 30th March at Riverside. There was a "first-ever" in any of the SSFA events in Dundee when Inchture and St.Andrew's needed a penalty shoot-out to decide who qualified for the semifinal. With all teams in League B level on points and goal difference after 2 games it was all to play for in the last game. Craigowl beat St.Luke's & St.Matthew's 3-0 to top the group, but Inchture and St.Andrew's drew 2-2 so there was nothing between them, both ending on 4 points with a goal difference of 4-4. St.Andrew's won the penalty shoot-out 5-4 to reach the semifinal. See photos.

SS Peter & Paul beat Glebelands 5-0 in Arab Trust DSA Section C. SS Peter & Paul scored an early goal and added two more before halftime. It looked like ending 3-0 but SS Peter & Paul finished the game off with a couple of goals in the last few minutes. An entertaining match at Craigie. See photos.

Scotland and Australia drew 3-3 in an U18 International Friendly at Renfrew. Adam Brown (Grove) was in the starting line-up and played well. There were no goals in the first half but the second half made up for that. Luc Bollan (Monifieth) came on at halftime and finished from close range in the first minute of the second half to give Scotland the lead. Australia fought back to go 2-1 up and the game had just entered time added on when Scotland won a penalty and equalised for 2-2. However Australia scored again less than a minute later to lead 3-2. Because of the amount of substitutions as both sides introduced all their players there was a lot of time to be added on. Scotland attacked again and Australia handled the ball in the box while attempting to clear, so another penalty was awarded and Scotland scored to make the score 3-3, with the last three goals coming in three minutes in an exciting end to the game.
Tuesday 24th January
Aberdeen beat Dundee 5-1 in the U15 National Trophy Quarterfinal at Spain Park. After a bright Aberdeen opening Dundee hit the bar through Nairn Bonnar then took the lead when a Ryan Arnott corner on the right was headed in by Josh McConville, 0-1 (22 min). Two minutes into time added on at the end of the half and with Dundee temporarily down to 10 men, Aberdeen broke down the right and fired a low shot into the far corner for 1-1. Aberdeen went ahead 12 minutes after halftime with a shot at the near post then 4 minutes later scored a cracker to lead 3-1.
Dundee had missed a couple of chances when the Aberdeen keeper was caught in possession but desperate Aberdeen defending prevented a shot on target. With all the subs getting on Dundee conceded a 4th just 8 minutes from the end and Aberdeen wrapped it up with a free kick over the keeper almost on the final whistle.
Wednesday 11th January
In the U15 Girls Crossover at Toryglen the East Girls beat South-West 2-1 to finish 3rd. West beat North 2-1 in the final while Central and South-East drew 2-2 to share 5th place. The travel chaos created by the lorry tipping over on the Forth Bridge meant a difficult journey from Dunfermline to the Clackmannanshire Bridge, a 17-mile journey taking just under two hours. Instead of playing the second game, East arrived in Glasgow at 11.45 and played the last game against South-West. 0-0 at halftime, Tara Laughlin (Perth Ac.) opened the scoring with a run through the middle, South-West equalised but Caitlyn Wilson (St.Columba's HS Dunfermline) grabbed the winner. Some photos to follow.
Wednesday 14th December
