PRIMARY
Primary Inter-Association Sevens 2011-12
The first event took place on Monday 28th November at Ravenscraig Indoor Arena, Motherwell, 12.00-4.00.
The second event took place on Monday 5th March at Toryglen Indoor Arena, Glasgow, 12.00-4.00.
The third event took place outdoors at Meggetland, Edinburgh, on Tuesday 22nd May, 11.00-3.00.
Before these there was a practice friendly v. Angus on Friday 18th November at Webster's HS Astroturf, Kirriemuir, 6.15-7.15.
The Dundee squad :
Jamie Goodfellow (Ardler), Robbie Gallacher (Ballumbie/Whitfield), Taylor Berry (Barnhill), Kieran Inglis, Ryan Paterson (Craigowl),
Craig Allen, Ryan McLaren (Dens Road), Jamie Crowe, Andrew Lyall (Forthill), Dane Caldwell, Keir Caldwell, Logan Chalmers (Glebelands),
Lee Muirhead (Rowantree), Ryan Bannon, Jack Gray, Brooklyn Hutton (SS Peter & Paul), Oskar Kalczak (St.Luke's & St.Matthew's),
Brian Rice (St.Mary's), Aidan Steele (St.Ninian's), Liam Golden (St.Pius).
The Primary Squad met for a final session at the end of June at St.Pius PS and, though they were a few short with early holidays etc., had an enjoyable run in the sun before receiving medals to mark their excellent performance over the season in the Primary Inter-Association Sevens.
Above : Action from the 3rd Primary Inter-Association Sevens day at Meggetland - Angus A (Blue), Angus B (Dark Green), Dumfries & Galloway A (Navy), Dumfries & Galloway B (Navy), Dundee A (Green / Navy), Dundee B (White / Navy),
East Ayrshire A (Sky), East Ayrshire B (Sky), Edinburgh A (White / Black sleeves), Edinburgh B (Red / Black sleeves),
Glasgow A (Black / White hoops), Glasgow B (White with Red socks), Paisley A (Red), Paisley B (Black / White stripes)
Meggetland report (Tuesday 22nd May) :
The last day of the three Primary Inter-Association Sevens tournaments was held outside on grass at Meggetland in Edinburgh. Following the recent cold and miserable weather it was great to see a warm sunny day for the final day. With the Paisley teams returning, it meant that all teams were guaranteed 7 games and, at 15 minutes each, there was plenty of football to be played.
With Oskar Kalczak unable Liam Golden of St.Pius was drafted in and performed admirably. Keir Caldwell was injured but came along to support his teammates. It took a long time for anybody to score a goal with the B team in white starting with 2 goalless draws, the As in green starting with a goalless draw then losing 1-0 to Dumfries & Galloway B who ended the day in top place.
Considering that the first games were against overall leaders and eventual champions Edinburgh as well as Paisley A and Dumfries & Galloway B who topped the two groups at the end of the day, the results in hindsight were probably reasonable.

Considering that the first games were against overall leaders and eventual champions Edinburgh as well as Paisley A and Dumfries & Galloway B who topped the two groups at the end of the day, the results in hindsight were probably reasonable.
In the third game both teams got off the mark, Taylor Berry scoring the only goal in the 1-0 win for the Bs over Glasgow A while the As scored twice against East Ayrshire B, Jamie Crowe and Kieran Inglis on target.
The Bs continued with another 1-0 win, Ryan Paterson scoring to beat Dumfries & Galloway A. The As went down 3-1 to Glasgow B in their next match, Jamie Crowe scoring the only Dundee goal, while the Bs were held by East Ayrshire A in a 2-2 draw, Taylor Berry and Andrew Lyall goals being cancelled out by East Ayrshire equalisers.
The next games were against Angus and met with varying results. The Bs who had been unbeaten in their other 5 group games went down to a 3-1 defeat against Angus B after Robbie Gallacher had scored first - an injury to Taylor Berry did not help. The As on the next pitch suddenly found scoring form and hit the highest score of the day v. Angus A with a 7-1 win, Ryan Bannon netting followed by hat-tricks for Ryan McLaren and Kieran Inglis. The As finished off the group games with a 2-0 victory over Paisley B, both goals from Jamie Crowe.
Meanwhile in the other games the Edinburgh A team continued from where they left off and with their B team picking up enough points Dundee would have to settle for the runners-up spot overall, still no mean feat though. At the end of the group games luck would have it that both the A and B team finished in 3rd place which meant they would play one another in the crossover game. With 2nd place overall assured, and nothing more than local pride to play for, the crossover game was an enjoyable affair between the As and Bs. Andrew Lyall scored first for the Bs, before Robbie Gallacher put them 2-0 ahead. Kieran Inglis pulled one back for the As as both managers agreed with the referee to throw all the players on for the final minutes for a last hurrah.

RYAN PATERSON (RIGHT) CHASED BY ANGUS DEFENDERS AT TORYGLEN
Toryglen report (Monday 5th March) :
It was a day of mixed fortunes for Dundee at the 2nd event of the Primary Inter-Association Sevens at Toryglen.
The B team could not get into gear at all while the A team finished top of the pile. The sum total of the day meant that Dundee slip to second, a couple of points behind Edinburgh who had a more steady all-round performance.
The first game for the Bs set the tone for the afternoon. East Ayrshire A scored the only goal, though Dundee B did hit the post. In the second game against local rivals Angus A the Bs took the lead through Taylor Berry but conceded an equaliser to finish 1-1. The next game was another 1-1 draw, with Glasgow B opening the scoring and Taylor Berry scoring the equaliser. Sadly that was the last goal for the Bs as they then slumped to three defeats. A 3-0 defeat to Dumfries & Galloway A was followed by a 1-0 defeat to group winners Edinburgh B, the highlight being a penalty save. So Dundee B finished 6th, only saved from bottom place by Paisley not turning up. In the 6th v. 6th game the Bs lost 2-0 to East Ayrshire B.

The As on the other hand had a very successful afternoon. Ryan Paterson scored a hat-trick in the opening game against East Ayrshire A which Dundee A won 3-0. The second game was closer, with Jamie Crowe scoring the only goal against Dumfries & Galloway B who could have equalised but hit the bar instead, so the As won 1-0. Dundee A then beat Angus B 2-0 with Logan Chalmers and Jamie Crowe scoring a goal each. In the fourth game against Glasgow A Ryan Paterson put Dundee A in front, then Glasgow equalised - the first goal the As had conceded - before Logan Chalmers hit the winner for 2-1. The perfect record disappeared for the As in the last group game against Edinburgh A, losing 1-0, but they still finished top of the group. In the 1st v. 1st game against Edinburgh B Logan Chalmers scored the only goal early on, and Dundee had to defend in depth as Edinburgh piled on the pressure. Ryan Paterson had a late chance to add to the lead but his header flew over the bar. The As held on to win 1-0.
Now for the third and final tournament on grass in Edinburgh in May, where both teams will need to put in solid performances in order to overtake Edinburgh.

DUNDEE B (GREEN) v. EAST AYRSHIRE A, DUNDEE A (WHITE) v. EAST AYRSHIRE B AT TORYGLEN
Ravenscraig report (Monday 28th November) :
With 14 games to be played it was a busy day for the Primary Select in Motherwell but both teams played well and picked up some good results to put Dundee in the lead after the first event.
The format was changed from last year as there were 7 Associations taking part, so it meant each team played one of the teams from each Association in the first phase.
The B team wearing green kicked off with a 0-0 against Dumfries & Galloway then had a rest to watch the A team before their next game. Next up for the B team was a game against local rivals Angus A and a single goal from Logan Chalmers gave Dundee full points. After a win and a draw the Bs then suffered a 2-0 defeat against a good East Ayrshire A team who were the only team in the first phase to score against them. They were soon back on track with a great performance against Paisley A, netting four times - Logan Chalmers scoring the first, followed by Jamie Crowe, then a powerful shot from Oskar Kalczak with the help of a defender, before Ryan Paterson wrapped it up at 4-0.

DUNDEE B (GREEN) SHOOT AGAINST ANGUS A (BLUE)
The fifth game was another victory for the Bs, 2-0 against Edinburgh A, Jamie Crowe volleying in a corner from Ryan Paterson for a superb goal, before Ryan scored himself. The last game in the league put the Bs up against Glasgow B, and Logan Chalmers scored his third and fourth of the afternoon, Kieran Inglis scored his first to give Dundee B a 3-0 win and finish on 13 points. There was a chance that the Bs could have been pipped for top spot with Dumfries & Galloway B on 11 points needing only to win their final game against East Ayrshire A on 9 points - in a close encounter East Ayrshire A won 1-0 to finish on 12 points, one behind Dundee B who topped the league.

DUNDEE B (GREEN) UP FOR A HEADER AGAINST EDINBURGH A (WHITE)
Meanwhile the As in white were going through their section unbeaten and not conceding a single goal in 6 games. Aidan Steele scored the only goal of the opening game, a 1-0 win against Dumfries & Galloway A, immediately followed by a 3-0 win over East Ayrshire B, Taylor Berry scoring once and Andrew Lyall twice. The third game was arguably the hardest against an excellent Edinburgh B who were the top scorers and won the section but Dundee A defended well against them and a 0-0 draw was a good result. The As got back into scoring ways against Paisley B with Taylor Berry on target once more, along with first goals for Brooklyn Hutton and Brian Rice, giving a 3-0 win. A good Glasgow A team then gave the defence another test resulting in a second 0-0 draw.
To top the table in the last game Dundee A needed to beat Angus B and hope that Edinburgh B would fall to East Ayrshire B - Edinburgh B won 2-0 to take top spot but Dundee A won their game 3-0 to overtake Glasgow A and finish second. Angus B were dogged opponents but Dundee eventually came through with three well taken goals, two from Andrew Lyall and one from Taylor Berry.

DUNDEE A (WHITE) DEFEND A CORNER v. EDINBURGH B (RED)
At the end of the first phase, there was another game to go, with the first in each section playing against each other, the second team playing the second team in the other section etc.
So Dundee A played East Ayrshire A in the 2nd v. 2nd and Dundee B played Edinburgh B in the 1st v. 1st games and, even though both Dundee teams went down 1-0, it still meant the aggregate points total was 24 for the Bs finishing 2nd and the As 4th out of 14. East Ayrshire picked up 20 points for ending 3rd and 7th, while Edinburgh took 3rd place with 18 points (14 points for their B team finishing top and 4 points for the A team being 11th.)
The points from all three events will be added together to decide the overall winner at the end of the season. One event down, two to go - the next will probably be indoors at Toryglen in March followed by an outdoor day in Edinburgh. A lot of games still to be played but Dundee have at least made a very good start.

LANARKSHIRE BEAT DUNDEE 5-2 IN THE QUARTERFINAL
Wed 1 Feb - Kick-off at Ravenscraig was delayed by 15 minutes following an accident in Motherwell which blocked the road bringing traffic to a crawl.
After the early exchanges it was Dundee who took the lead in the 9th minute - Aiden Benvie's good work down the right found Craig Wighton on the far side of the box who zipped past a defender to the bye-line and shot against the left-hand post, and Jordan Garden was well placed to thump in the loose ball from 8 yards, 0-1.
Lanarkshire replied with two efforts which soared high and wide, while Dundee forced a couple of corners which caused problems for the home defence. Midway through the half a Lanarkshire header flew just wide of the right-hand post, despite the "Yes" shouts from the home crowd who thought it was going in. A Dundee break saw Craig Wighton fire just wide of the post.
Lanarkshire grabbed an equaliser in the 27th minute when a diagonal ball from the right floated over the Dundee defence, the Lanarkshire striker took the ball down smartly before hitting a low finish into the centre of the net, 1-1. The home team had the ball in the net again shortly after but the whistle had already blown for offside. Craig Wighton proved dangerous down the right this time with a shot which flew narrowly wide of the far post.
Lanarkshire stepped up the pressure with the break looming and two minutes from halftime scored a quality goal with a well-worked quick interchange of passes on the edge of the box splitting the Dundee defence open, 2-1.

After the interval Owen McCabe hit on the break after the home keeper had given the ball away but was tackled at the edge of the box.
Lanarkshire replied and forced a corner when the Dundee defence failed to clear their lines. This set up a spell of Lanarkshire pressure and in the 51st minute a corner from the right was headed in at the near post, 3-1.

LANARKSHIRE (YELLOW) HEAD IN FOR 3-1 IN THE U15 NATIONAL TROPHY QUARTERFINAL v. DUNDEE (SKY)
Just as it seemed Dundee might be coming back into the game, a gift by the keeper let Lanarkshire in to smack the ball home from inside the area, 4-1. Two minutes later another defensive error led to another goal, a header going to the foot of a Lanarkshire striker who rocketed the ball into the top corner, 5-1. Scoring three goals in 8 minutes Lanarkshire were now in control but Dundee pulled one back within two minutes when Craig Wighton beat the offside trap on the right and lobbed the keeper, 5-2. Dundee had a few more chances but a comeback seemed unlikely. Another Craig Wighton run down the right produced a shot wide of the far post and a free kick had the Lanarkshire keeper in problems, but there were no further goals and the final result of 5-2 was a fair reflection on the game.

Thur 1 Dec - The last game in the U15 National Trophy Group 2 was switched from Turriff United to Inverurie Academy two days before because the recent rain had made the Turriff pitch unplayable. Inverurie was in perfect condition and, despite the forecast predicting strong winds, the weather was winter sunshine, no wind and blue skies, perfect for a game of football.

Inverurie was in perfect condition and, despite the forecast predicting strong winds, the weather was winter sunshine, no wind and blue skies, perfect for a game of football.
Thanks to Edinburgh's win the previous week in Aberdeen, Dundee still had a chance of making second spot, even though they had not found the net in either of their previous games. Aberdeenshire attacked from the start and the Dundee defence, excellent in the games so far, had to be alert for ten minutes of home pressure. But Dundee looked sharp going forward and broke the deadlock with a break down the left and Greg Warwick hit a peach into the top corner from 20 yards to give Dundee the lead, 0-1 (10m).
This settled any Dundee nerves and took the steam out of Aberdeenshire. In the next few minutes Dundee had several good opportunities, Daniel Thomson pushing up from defence to strike a couple of powerful shots from long distance which the keeper held on to, and Greg Warwick trying another effort from the left. Aberdeenshire survived that spell of pressure and the game evened out for a while. With John Bonnar handling superbly and the defence calm and composed at all times, it was going to take a special effort from the home side to get back on level terms.
Dundee went further ahead with an excellent solo goal from Jordan Garden, who strode up the right, cut into the box outwitting two defenders and shot low inside the near post, with the keeper diving in vain, 0-2 (27m). With Dundee needing to win by two goals, this was a vital strike. It could have been three close to halftime when a neat lay-off by Calum McHardy set Jordan Garden up again but his shot was narrowly wide this time.

TWO UP AND HEADING FOR THE QUARTERFINALS
The second half started like the first with the home team keen to make an impression. A free kick on the right led to an Aberdeenshire chance which went just wide. Dundee were keen to make sure of a third goal and Greg Warwick on the left proved a handful for the home defence after taking a pin-point pass from Derryn Kesson and firing a shot inches past the far post. Paul Callaghan then swung over a cross from the right, finding Greg Warwick in the clear on the left but the keeper closed him down to concede a corner.

Just as Dundee had opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the first half, the 10th minute of the second half proved important for the visitors as Daniel Thomson, up for a corner, thumped in a powerful header, 0-3 (50m). This gave Dundee a good cushion, and the subs started to warm up. Aiden Benvie was first on for Tony Myers who had put in a good shift and it was not long before Dundee added a fourth - great work on the left from the ever-impressive Craigie pair of Derryn Kesson and Greg Warwick set up Calum McHardy for a 6 yard slide-in, a well-deserved goal for the captain, 0-4 (61m).
Three minutes later the game was over as a contest as Jordan Garden found himself on his own in front of the keeper and beat him to roll the ball into the empty net, 0-5 (64m).

All the subs got on for a few minutes towards the end to enjoy the victory and the icing on the cake came seven minutes from the end when Calum McHardy scored his second of the game from 10 yards, taking a cross from the left from Greg Warwick in his stride and stroking it inside the near post, 0-6 (73m).

The only thing that was in doubt was the man of the match - that argument could go on for a long time and it is just as well it is a team game, or even a squad game. So Dundee finish 2nd on 4 points behind group leaders Edinburgh, ousting Aberdeen on goal difference. This means a place in the quarterfinals for the first time in many years, and an away trip in January or February to play the winner of one of the other groups. The draw will be made later in December.
Final score : Aberdeenshire 0 Dundee 6
The Dundee squad for the Aberdeenshire game : John Bonnar, Callum Walls (Baldragon), Derryn Kesson, Greg Warwick (Craigie), Paul Callaghan, Sean Gallacher, Jordan Garden, Ross Gourlay, Calum McHardy (Grove), Cameron Black, Owen McCabe, Tony Myers (Menzieshill), Frankie Devine, Cameron McMahon, Del Ross (Morgan), Aiden Benvie, Daniel Thomson (St.John's), Ryan Smith (St.Paul's)

DEFENCES ON TOP IN GOALLESS DRAW
Thur 17 Nov - Dundee met Aberdeen in the U15 National Trophy Group 2 at Riverside on a dull afternoon. The game was far from dull though and there were many good performances on both sides, particularly in defence. Dundee had the first chance when Jordan Garden struck a powerful shot which was netbound till Grant Yates dived towards the far post and tipped it away for a corner. Though it was only the sixth minute this was the first sign it was going to be a difficult afternoon for strikers.

GREG WARWICK (20) CHALLENGES FOR THE BALL AGAINST ABERDEEN
The game swung from end to end with neither side able to dominate for any length of time. The best chances for Aberdeen fell towards halftime. First a corner on the left was missed by Dundee keeper John Bonnar - his only mistake of the game - and defender Stuart Charleton at the far post skied the ball high over the bar, when a goal seemed certain. The Aberdeen player perhaps did not expect to get anywhere near the ball, as John Bonnar's handling was otherwise exceptional. Two minutes later the Dundee defence had an off-moment and presented Aberdeen with another chance but Calum Buchan headed over.

DUNDEE (SKY) v. ABERDEEN (RED) IN THE U15 NATIONAL TROPHY
After the interval the Dundee defence showed strength and determination not to let any errors happen, but Aberdeen were in similar mood, and when a spell of Dundee pressure came to nothing in the 50th minute, a goalless draw started to seem inevitable. The last half-hour produced plenty of effort from everybody but Cameron Christie and Stuart Charleton marshalled the Aberdeen defence just as immaculately as Daniel Thomson and Cameron Black did for Dundee. Aberdeen did get the ball in the net two minutes from time but the whistle had gone long before for offside so there was no danger of anybody getting on the scoresheet.

In the penalty shoot-out which follows all drawn games in the National Trophy in case teams end up with the same record Dundee won 6-5. Aberdeen scored all their first five, as did Dundee (Aiden Benvie, Calum McHardy, Jordan Garden, John Bonnar, Callum Walls) and it was down to sudden death - Aberdeen sent their 6th kick over the bar, Daniel Thomson hit the net to finish the day's entertainment. Now for a trip to Turriff in December.

FORTH VALLEY (YELLOW / BLUE) AND DUNDEE (GREEN / BLACK) LINE UP BEFORE THE FINAL
Forth Valley took the game by the scruff of the neck and went on the attack from the start and Dundee survived a few near things while they acclimatised to the conditions. The Dundee defence weathered the storm and after about 10 minutes the team started showing that they were also there to compete. With captain Keir Reilly lively in midfield Dundee started to put some attacks of their own together, and Connor MacLeod looked to make a breakthrough on several occasions. Gavin Thomson showed some trickery on the left with a couple of quick breaks and, though he was denied this time by Forth Valley defenders, it was a sign of what was to come.
The Dundee defence had settled down to their normal standard, the Morgan trio of Matthew Gallazzi, David Rae and Scott Taylor all looked calm and unflustered, trying to start attacks whenever possible with accurate passes, while Jamie Irvine from St.John's had an excellent game in the heart of the defence.

KEIR REILLY GETS READY TO TAKE A FREE KICK
After an even spell of play with no significant chances for either side, the game suddenly burst into life with a spectacular goal for the home team. A Forth Valley clearance came to central defender Jamie Irvine just inside his own half - Jamie struck a well-hit long pass to the feet of Connor MacLeod wide on the left and 25 to 30 yards out - Connor hit a rocket shot which beat International keeper Dean Shaw all ends up and flew into the far corner, 1-0 (28 min). A fantastic hit from the Morgan striker to put Dundee into the lead, but credit as well to Jamie Irvine for a superb pass to give Connor the chance.
Following a Dundee corner not long after, the Forth Valley keeper went down with an injury which stopped play for two or three minutes but thankfully he seemed to recover without any ill effects. With the break in play Dundee lost a little momentum and Forth Valley pressed hard for an equaliser in the last ten minutes of the half. Dundee still had the best chance to add to the score when the Grove pair of Kieran Dack and Ryan Winter combined well, a pass from left to right across the park from Kieran finding Ryan clear on the right and his shot from the wing flying just a few inches over the bar.

LET US HOPE THE SANTIAGO BERNABEU SCOREBOARD WAS SHOWING AN UPDATE FROM DUNDEE
Kieran Sturrock went on for Ryan Winter at halftime and Dundee set about increasing the lead with a good start to the second half. Gavin Thomson burst down the left soon after the break and unleashed a fierce shot, only to see the ball crash back off the angle of bar and post - the Craigie striker was only biding his time however. The next chance was a free kick by the halfway line in the 55th minute - David Rae launched a terrific strike towards the Forth Valley goal and forced the keeper to punch it over, amid gasps from the crowd.

Forth Valley then created a couple of chances as they searched for an equaliser. Dundee defended well with a good tackle from Scott Taylor leaving Jamie Irvine to clear, soon after the visitors had an excellent opportunity as the ever-dangerous Kieran Anderson-Ballantyne broke clear but blasted the ball over the bar to Dundee relief. As the hour mark approached Dundee hit Forth Valley with a quick double which nearly floored the visitors. Gavin Thomson gathered the ball on the left wing and headed straight for goal, outpacing the Forth Valley defence before beating the keeper and firing into the net, 2-0 (59 min).
Two minutes later Gavin broke free once again and burst into the box, only this time to be brought down by a defender. While the referee spoke to the defender, David Rae sprinted forward to grab the ball for the penalty kick. As the Dundee Seniors have had a chequered history with penalties this season, there was some trepidation which perhaps the keeper sensed as he dived to parry the spot-kick - however David was the first to follow up and bury the ball into the bottom corner, 3-0 (61 min).

DAVID RAE ON THE SCOREBOARD AFTER THE THIRD GOAL
Gavin Thomson's magnificent efforts in running the defenders ragged meant he picked up a slight injury and he came off to great applause with Corey Gray replacing him in the 68th minute.

KIERAN DACK WITH JUSTYN BROUGH, DAVID RAE AND JAMIE IRVINE IN THE BACKGROUND
Forth Valley had not given up and three minutes later were back in contention when Kieran Anderson-Ballantyne attacked through the middle and the International striker from Falkirk turned the defence and shot home from just inside the box, past Justyn Brough's right hand, 3-1 (71 min).
With Forth Valley coming more into the game Dundee started to ring the changes with Darren Mackie, Robbie Norrie and David Geekie getting a taste of the action, as Connor MacLeod, Connaire Connelly and Keir Reilly took a well-earned break following their exertions.

IN TIME ADDED ON
Forth Valley's last chance to make an impression was a well-struck shot from Mark Flynn but it curled away past the far post and out for a goal kick. Soon after the referee blew the final whistle and the Dundee boys could celebrate a magnificent win. Both sides had played the game in good spirit and were a credit to their Associations, making life easy for the excellent referee from Fife. The boys collected their winners medals from SSFA President Rod Houston who then presented the cup to captain Keir Reilly to end a fantastic night.

DUNDEE SENIORS BEFORE THE SEMIFINAL AGAINST ABERDEEN AT WHITTON PARK
Back in September Dundee had dominated the first half at Riverside but only led 2-1 at halftime and Aberdeen seemed to grow in strength as the game wore on and grabbed a late winner. This time there were to be no mistakes at the back with the goalkeeper and defence nullifying the Aberdeen threat.

KEIR REILLY v. ABERDEEN, WATCHED BY KIERAN DACK (left) AND CONNAIRE CONNELLY (right)
On a warm sunny night in front of a good crowd at Broughty Athletic's Whitton Park it took some time for the game to settle down and chances were few and far between in the opening stages. Ryan Winter had a shot from distance but it drifted away past the far post. Aberdeen replied with a couple of headers, the first over the bar and the second saved. Midway through the half Connor MacLeod took a pass from Ryan Winter but skewed his shot wide.
On the half-hour mark Dundee thought they had taken the lead when Connaire Connelly powered in a header from a free kick, but the flag was up for offside so celebrations were cut short.
As the game moved towards halftime Connor MacLeod was sent free on the left and when the Aberdeen keeper raced off his line Connor lofted the ball over his head into the empty net, 1-0 (40m).

RYAN WINTER LOOKS ON AS CONNOR MacLEOD'S LOB HITS THE BACK OF THE NET FOR 1-0
Gavin Thomson nearly doubled the lead on the stroke of halftime with a mazy run down the left, leaving several defenders in his wake, but shooting narrowly wide of the near post.
Halftime : Dundee 1 Aberdeen 0
Gavin Thomson picked up an injury early in the second half and was unable to run it off so Corey Gray went on to replace him. Ryan Winter who had put a lot of effort in during the first half was then replaced by Robbie Norrie. Kieran Dack, who showed great composure throughout, turned on the skill and had the visitors' defence in difficulties. Keir Reilly recovered from nearly losing the ball on the left, and beat a few players as he ran forward to set up another chance. It was not all one-way traffic and Aberdeen countered, breaking quickly down the left and forcing Dundee into a desperate tackle, but the resulting free kick was quickly cleared. Robbie Norrie, who had scored a vital goal in Glasgow, looked to get on the scoresheet again but his attempt flew narrowly over the bar.

CONNOR MacLEOD ON THE BALL AGAINST ABERDEEN
Connor MacLeod came off with 11 minutes left, Kieran Sturrock going on for him. Dundee continued to probe for openings, Robbie Norrie shooting just wide and Kieran Sturrock looking good on the break. With Dundee looking to get all their subs on for a taste of the action David Geekie went on for Connaire Connelly who had worked away tirelessly in midfield as usual. Corey Gray ran clear up the left and blasted a shot wide of the left post.
With regulation time up and the sun going down, there were three or four minutes of time added on still left. Aberdeen tried to grab an equaliser but Justyn Brough was alert to it and made a good save. The rest of the time was played in the Aberdeen half, Corey Gray just off target after good work by Kieran Sturrock. Kieran Dack made way for Blair Ogilvie and Dundee kept the pressure on up the right-hand side. Fully four minutes into time added on Kieran Sturrock was fed from the right, raced to the edge of the box and unleashed a left-foot strike low past the oncoming keeper into the net to spark off scenes of celebration on and off the pitch, 2-0 (90+4m).
The final whistle sounded shortly after and both sides shook hands after a hard-fought but fair encounter. Dundee now play Forth Valley in the Final (date and venue to be arranged). It will be Dundee's first appearance in the final since 1997 when Dundee last won the trophy.

DUNDEE (GREEN) DEFEND AN ATTACK FROM GLASGOW (STRIPES) IN THE SENIOR QUARTERFINAL
GAVIN THOMSON MAKES IT 1-1
As the game approached the half-hour mark, Glasgow conceded a penalty when Gavin Thomson raced forward from the left touchline into the box and was brought down just inside the area. The keeper did well to parry the spot-kick, but Gavin followed up to smash the rebound into the net for the equaliser, 1-1 (27m). Two minutes later Glasgow thought they were back in front with a wonderfully executed overhead kick, but the flag had already gone up for offside.

KEIR REILLY TAKES ON THE GLASGOW DEFENCE, GAVIN THOMSON LOOKS ON
In the 33rd minute Connaire Connelly hit a 25-yarder which the Glasgow keeper had to tip over for a corner. The corner from the right caused problems for the home defence who could only clear the ball out to the far side of the box where David Rae turned to strike a 20 yard shot which beat the keeper down at the far post to give Dundee the lead, 1-2 (34m). Connor MacLeod hit a 20 yarder just over the bar a couple of minutes later, before Glasgow replied with a spell of pressure which Dundee were glad to see out for the halftime whistle.

Glasgow struck almost straight from the kick-off after the interval, Dundee were not quick enough to close the strikers down and the home team equalised, 2-2 (46m). Glasgow should have taken the lead straight after but blew their chance by shooting over the bar. On the hour Dundee replaced Ryan Winter, who had performed superbly after a long lay-off, with Robbie Norrie who had only been drafted in at the last minute.
The substitution paid off almost immediately - Connor MacLeod won the ball on the left on the halfway line and pushed a slide-rule pass between two defenders into the path of Robbie Norrie who raced in to nick the ball between the keeper and the near post to put Dundee back in front, 2-3 (65m). Glasgow attacks were always dangerous but Dundee were defending well - there was a moment of panic though when a clearance cannoned off a team-mate, the ball then hit the bar and Glasgow, presented with a good chance, could only knock the ball over. Justyn Brough then produced a great save to tip a shot away for a corner as Glasgow pressed hard for a leveller.

ROBBIE NORRIE IS CONGRATULATED AFTER PUTTING DUNDEE 3-2 UP
In the last quarter of an hour both sides put on more fresh legs as the pace was punishing, Corey Gray going on for Gavin Thomson. Both sides had good chances, Dundee shooting just wide and Glasgow firing just over. Darren Mackie replaced Connor MacLeod up front with 5 minutes to go but almost immediately at the other end Glasgow grabbed an equaliser from a throw-in which eventually came back off the bar and was bundled in at the near post, 3-3 (85m).
Final score : Glasgow 3 Dundee 3
With no time for extra-time, the game went straight to penalties with Dundee to shoot first.
Darren Mackie scored first, Glasgow scored, 1-1
Kieran Dack scored, Glasgow scored 2-2
Robbie Norrie scored, Glasgow scored 3-3
David Rae scored, Glasgow hit the bar 4-3
Jamie Irvine scored to set off the celebrations, Dundee winning 5-3.
After three penalty misses in successive games (although one goal scored from a rebound), it was good to see 5 confidently taken shots which gave the keeper no chance.
Now Dundee have a semifinal home to Aberdeen in a rematch of the first game played in the Group. On that occasion Dundee led 2-1 at halftime but Aberdeen came back to snatch a late winner, 3-2, so the semifinal should be very interesting.
Dundee Senior Squad : Gavin Thomson (Craigie), Kieran Dack, Jordan Garden, Darren Mackie, Connor Watson, Ryan Winter (Grove),
Justyn Brough, Matthew Gallazzi, Corey Gray, Connor MacLeod, Robbie Norrie, David Rae, Kieran Sturrock, Scott Taylor (Morgan),
Connaire Connelly, Leighton Davidson, David Geekie, Jamie Irvine, James McGregor, Blair Ogilvie, Keir Reilly (St.John's)

THE SENIOR SQUAD AT TORYGLEN AFTER THE WIN OVER GLASGOW
DUNDEE THROUGH TO THE QUARTERFINALS WITH A 3-0 WIN OVER ABERDEENSHIRE
Wed 11 Jan - The long-awaited game with Aberdeenshire finally took place in fairly calm conditions on the Fraserburgh Astroturf.
The first attempt to play the game in early December had been cancelled with pitches waterlogged or covered with snow and gale-force winds so strong that the evening news showed pictures of a lorry blown off the road south of Aberdeen. So a slight January chill and a light breeze did not pose any major problems for the players this time.
Dundee's aim to reach the quarterfinals had been made a bit harder by conceding a late equaliser to Perth & Kinross in the previous game so, instead of just needing a victory, Dundee had now to win by a margin of three goals.

JUSTYN BROUGH HOLDS ON TO A HIGH BALL
GAVIN THOMSON TRIES HIS LUCK WITH A FREE KICK AGAINST ABERDEENSHIRE SENIORS IN FRASERBURGH
ABERDEENSHIRE ON THE BALL, WATCHED BY KIERAN DACK, DAVID RAE, KEIR REILLY, CONNOR MacLEOD, JUSTYN BROUGH AND JAMIE IRVINE
For the opening half-hour there were few chances for either side but 2 goals in 2 minutes put Dundee in charge.
First Gavin Thomson chased a through ball down the centre to the edge of the box, the Aberdeenshire keeper raced out to grab the ball but did not have it under control, Gavin robbed him and moved to the left to get away from keeper and defenders before composing himself to stroke the ball into an empty net, 0-1 (31m). This was just the boost Dundee needed and more was to follow.
Just over a minute later Connor MacLeod, thirty yards out, looked up and smashed an unstoppable shot past the keeper, 0-2 (33m). Dundee could have been three up but a Keir Reilly free kick from the left touchline eluded everybody at the far post, perhaps blown slightly off course by a gust of wind, but the chance had gone.

CONNOR MacLEOD AND GAVIN THOMSON (9) CELEBRATE THE FIRST GOAL
The wind was behind Aberdeenshire in the second half but it did not really help them and they found that many of their attacks came to nothing because the ball was overhit. With Dundee's defence playing well, there was even time for the defenders to make occasional forays up front. Just after the hour mark one of these paid off handsomely for the away team. Jamie Irvine came up to take a throw on the right and, when the ball came back to him, he curled in an inviting cross to the far post where Gavin Thomson leapt to challenge the home keeper - the ball broke perfectly to Kieran Sturrock whose deft control and finish saw the ball nestle in the far corner of the net, 0-3 (63m).
The nearest the home side came to a goal was from a quickly taken throw which caught the Dundee defence out but Matthew Gallazzi was on hand to clear the ball calmly off the line and avert the danger. Kieran Sturrock nearly added a fourth with a low shot just wide of the far post following good build-up play on the right. With four minutes left Connor MacLeod was dumped in the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.
Connor took the penalty himself and when the keeper parried his shot back to him he could only head the ball over the bar, so it remained 3-0.
Fortunately it was not crucial, Connor had scored a goal in every game, the team had the required 3-goal lead and the keeper and defence were dealing comfortably with the home attacks, so there was a chance for the subs to get a run out before the final whistle.
Final score : Aberdeenshire 0 Dundee 3
Dundee finish in second place behind Aberdeen and qualify for the quarterfinals with a game away to Glasgow.

LATE PENALTY GIVES PERTH & KINROSS A DRAW
Wed 14 Dec - A tale of two second-half penalties, Dundee missing their kick and P&K scoring theirs, meant that honours were shared in a 1-1 draw.
The original fixture had been postponed in October and with doubts about weather the venue had been switched the week before from Scone Thistle to McDiarmid Astroturf. Though the stormy weather of the previous day had subsided, the astroturf was a good choice because any grass pitch would have been unplayable. The first half was competitive but chances were few and far between. The home side's best effort was a header midway through the half which did not really trouble the keeper.
Dundee opened the scoring ten minutes before the break, Connor MacLeod at the far post connecting with a free kick from the right, 0-1 (35m).
Halftime : Perth & Kinross 0 Dundee 1

Halftime : Perth & Kinross 0 Dundee 1
The second half had more talking points. Dale Robertson headed a Perth & Kinross free kick narrowly wide then Scott Taylor out on the left nearly put Dundee two up when he smashed a 25 yard shot which cannoned back off the foot of the far post.
Just after the hour mark Dale Robertson broke through the centre with the Dundee defence dithering but the chance came to nothing, then Connor MacLeod looked to add to his tally with a 30 yard screamer which had P&K keeper Corey Boyle in difficulties, the ball bouncing off his back before he managed to grab hold of it. The turning point came in the 69th minute when Connaire Connelly was brought down in the P&K box and Keir Reilly saw his spot-kick saved by Corey Boyle.

DAVID RAE'S FREE KICK IS ON TARGET BUT TURNED ROUND THE POST BY THE P&K KEEPER
David Rae had a 25 yard free kick turned away by Corey Boyle. Buoyed by the keeper's good saves P&K looked for an equaliser and a couple of corners created problems for the visitors. Dundee then had a couple of chances, Scott Taylor with another long-range effort just over, then Connor MacLeod shooting wide of the target after a good pass from Connaire Connelly. P&K nearly scored from a corner but a P&K player managed to block his team-mate's shot and the rebound was saved by Justyn Brough. With five minutes left P&K were awarded a penalty following a foul in the area and Liam Gordon stepped up to thump the ball into the net for the equaliser, 1-1, (85m).
P&K went all out for the winner and Scott Mollison fired just over. Dundee then tried to grab a late winner but Connaire Connelly's shot from distance went wide.
So the game ended 1-1, Perth & Kinross wrapping up their campaign with a point against their neighbours, Dundee still with a chance of qualifying in their last match away to Aberdeenshire but the task made that little bit harder by conceding the late goal.

LATE GOAL SINKS DUNDEE
Thur 10 Nov - A late Aberdeen goal dashed Dundee hopes of getting anything out of the Senior National Trophy Group 2 game at Riverside.
Dundee had the better of the first half and led 2-1 at the break. The home team got off to a flier when Connor MacLeod raced past the Aberdeen central defence and a firm left-foot strike flew past the keeper's outstretched left hand into the bottom corner, 1-0 (6m). Dundee continued to run fast at the visitors' defence but they stood strong. Midway through the half Jamie Irvine tested the keeper with a speculative effort from the halfway line but it was comfortably saved. Soon after David Geekie picked up an injury and had to come off, and Aberdeen equalised immediately, with Gavin Sinclair taking a throw-in on his chest and thumping an overhead kick past the keeper, 1-1 (26m).

Aberdeen nearly equalised right on halftime but Dundee were saved by the bar.

GAVIN THOMSON TAKES ON THE ABERDEEN DEFENCE
Almost on the hour mark Aberdeen equalised for the second time, Gavin Sinclair notching his second goal despite strong Dundee claims for a foul on the keeper, 2-2 (59m). As the game entered the last quarter Dundee nearly went ahead again when Connor MacLeod got his head to a free kick but it went just wide. With a quarter of an hour left Scott Taylor on the left wing sent in a vicious 30 yard strike towards the top corner and only a fantastic save by Camran Knowles in the Aberdeen goal prevented a wonder goal.

CONNAIRE CONNELLY IN ACTION AGAINST ABERDEEN
Dundee were tiring visibly while Aberdeen seemed to have lots of energy left and were winning most of the 50-50 balls. Three minutes from the end came the killer blow when Greg Alexander beat the offside trap and put Aberdeen ahead for the first time in the game, 2-3 (87m). Dundee tried to grab an equaliser to salvage something from the game but there was not enough time and Aberdeen held on for the three points.
