Below : PRIMARY STAFF (RED / BLACK HOOPS) v. SECONDARY STAFF (YELLOW / BLUE) IN THE SEASON FINALE
Thursday 30th June
Secondary Staff beat Primary Staff 5-1 in a friendly at Craigie Astroturf.
The season finally drew to a close with a victory for the Secondary staff. There was not much in it in the first half with Secondary breaking the offside trap to take the lead. Primary had a good chance but an excellent double-save from Secondary keeper Ogilvie prevented an equaliser.
In the second half Secondary moved into a 3-0 lead before Primary won a penalty which was however not converted. Primary did finally get on the scoresheet through Reilly but Secondary took advantage of the lack of flag-waving assistants to finish the scoring at 5-1. The best moment in the second half was a Secondary shot which hit the post, rebounded onto defender Duffy then straight into the arms of keeper Valentine.
In between goals both sides were keen to test the height of the Craigie fences with the ball twice being fired over into the grounds of the adjacent College, giving the ballboys a good test.
The highlight however came in the first half when a ball was punted over the side-fence into the Arbroath Road. All eyes watched the ball roll agonisingly onto the road and it looked like the ball would survive until it got caught underneath an eastbound HGV. It was an easy win for the HGV which burst the ball with a loud bang and carried on its way regardless. An explosive moment in an otherwise well-contested game which ended in handshakes all round and, more important, no daft injuries with the holidays about to start.
