Monday 22nd February
Barnhill won Day 2 of the SSFA Soccer Sevens at Dawson Astroturf. The original competition had been postponed on 18th January because of the icy weather but the rearranged day was well worth waiting for. On a sunny day with no wind the conditions were perfect for the 10 teams in their two leagues. Barnhill won all their group games and it looked like Downfield would join them in the semifinals but St.Andrew's pipped them with a late goal in a 3-2 win. Group B was extremely close with nothing decided till the final whistle of the last game. A 1-1 draw between Clepington and Forthill gave Forthill top spot with a goal difference of +2, just ahead of Hayshead on +1, while Craigowl B who were also on 7 points missed out by having a goal difference of 0, with Clepington on 6 points.
The semifinals were just as close with Hayshead taking a 2-0 lead against Barnhill only for Barnhill to come back and level at 2-2. On the other pitch Forthill scored first but late in the game St.Andrew's equalised for 1-1. With no goals on either pitch in extra-time, we had the unusual occurrence of two simultaneous penalty shoot-outs, Barnhill winning 3-1 and Forthill winning 3-2. The final was just as tense with 0-0 after normal time, but Barnhill scored twice in extra-time to make the final score Barnhill 2 Forthill 0. Barnhill go through to the North Finals in April. Also taking part today were Birkhill, Glebelands and SS Peter & Paul.
