It was a hard game which was only decided late on, though Dundee dominated in the second half. Independent scored first in the 33rd minute just when Dundee looked to be getting on top. A header from Rory Faulkner 9 minutes after the break made it 1-1 and then Dundee had a penalty saved after a foul in the box.
In the 80th minute Blair Whyte finished off a stramash to put Dundee in front after three chances had been parried, half-cleared etc. in quick succession and in the 87th minute Adam Brown raced down the right wing on the break and shot across the keeper into the bottom corner to put Dundee 3-1 up. All the subs got on for a taste of the action. Two minutes into time added on Independent were awarded a penalty and the home team pulled it back to 3-2. A draw would have been enough for Dundee to qualify but the last couple of minutes were played out in the home half to guarantee the win and a home tie in the quarterfinals.
In Day 1 of the Senior Girls Sevens at Craigie HS astroturf St.John's remained unbeaten to top the table ahead of Craigie and Baldragon.
