Thur 23 June - St.Paul's beat Menzieshill 9-2 in the DFCSS U13 Champions League to win the league. Just needing to avoid defeat, St.Paul's fell behind early on but came back strongly to win convincingly in the end. Best goal of the day however was Menzieshill's second, a tremendous 40-yard strike which went in off the far post. Well done to all the players for braving horrendous conditions at the start - thunder, lightning, hailstones and torrential rain helped flood the streets outside but the astroturf was in perfect condition and the sun came out for the second half, as the Secondary season drew to a close.
Tues 21 June - Monifieth beat Grove 5-1 in the Arab Trust U15 Champions League to win the championship.
Thur 16 June - Braeview won the Arab Trust U16 Champions League.
Tues 7 June - Craigie drew 1-1 with Menzieshill in the DFCSS U14 Champions League to win the league title. Craigie just needed to avoid defeat in their last game and led from the 12th minute, but a last-minute equaliser from the visitors made for a nervy ending.
Fri 13 May - Baldragon beat Morgan 2-1 in the Arab Trust DFCSS Senior Champions League. Winning all their CL games Baldragon hold on to the Senior Shield for the second year in a row.

Fri 4 Feb - The first trophy of the season went to Baldragon who lifted the U16 R.M.Kean Trophy at Grove Academy. There were 6 teams playing in the indoor 5-a-sides. Baldragon started with a goalless draw against St.John's. Goals were difficult to come by with all goalkeepers in excellent form but Baldragon sneaked a win against Harris with a very late goal. Monifieth won both their group games, putting three past Craigie, then coming from behind to beat Braeview 2-1 to earn a place in the final. In a pulsating final Baldragon took the lead when a shot took a cruel deflection off a Monifieth defender and spun past the helpless keeper for an own goal. A few minutes later Baldragon hit the net with a firm strike to wrap up a 2-0 victory. Monifieth took the runners-up medals, Baldragon the winners medals and the cup.

MONIFIETH CLINCH ARAB TRUST U15 LEAGUE WITH 5 SECOND-HALF GOALS
Tues 21 Jun - The longest day of the year and probably also the wettest turned into a game of two halves as Monifieth and Grove battled it out for the Arab Trust U15 League title. In their previous encounters this season Monifieth had won the earlier league match 4-1 but Grove had won the Senior Sports Cup 2-0 at Dens, so it was all to play for in the league decider.
The pitch at Monifieth looked good, the overhead conditions started as rain which after twenty minutes turned into heavy rain. Grove scored the opener in 6 minutes with a break down the right and firm strike into the far corner, 1-0 (6m). Grove had another chance which was well saved, then at the other end a Grove backpass put the keeper under pressure as Monifieth raced in for the kill, but he managed to clear the ball. Monifieth were presented with another chance but the shot across the goal went wide of the far post. Midway through the half Grove nearly scored a second, after a good move starting on the left saw the ball worked over to the right and a fierce shot crashed back off the far post. A goal then might have made all the difference. As the rain fell harder and harder, Monifieth created a couple of chances but at the interval there was just one goal to show for all the effort.

Halftime : Grove 1 Monifieth 0
MONIFIETH (SKY) ON THE ATTACK AGAINST GROVE (WHITE)
The second half had only just started when Monifieth moved down the right and shot across the keeper for the equaliser, 1-1 (41m). This perfect start was capped two minutes later when another move down the right was finished off with a thumping drive into the far corner, 1-2 (43m). Grove struggled to get back into the game but fashioned one chance which the Monifieth keeper could perhaps have saved but decided not to use his hands, creating a moment of panic. The best opportunities were now falling to Monifieth - a shot flashed past the post, a 25 yard free kick had the keeper pushing the ball away for a corner which then created more problems at the far post. With 14 minutes left a solo run through the centre of the Grove defence gave Monifieth hope of adding a third but the well-struck shot rebounded off the angle of bar and right post. Two minutes later Monifieth hit the base of the same post and the ball bounced into the arms of the thankful Grove keeper - however only seconds later he was under pressure again and could not hold the greasy ball, making it simple for Monifieth to poke the ball home, 1-3 (68m). Three minutes later the game was over as a contest, Monifieth hitting a solid strike from just inside the penalty box into the roof of the net, 1-4 (71m). Three minutes from the end Monifieth put the icing on the cake, rolling the ball along the ground for the final goal, 1-5 (77m).
Final score : Grove 1 Monifieth 5
It was handshakes all round at the end of a fascinating local derby - disappointment for Grove whose dreams of the double were dashed but delight for Monifieth whose desire was stronger in the second half and deservedly took the Arab Trust U15 League title.

ST.PAUL'S (GREEN) GO 2-1 UP v. GROVE WITH A HEADER FROM A FREE KICK IN THE U13 LEAGUE
CRAIGIE WIN THE DFCSS U14 LEAGUE
Tues 7 Jun - Craigie wrapped up the U14 League in their final game of the season. Just needing to avoid defeat in their game against Menzieshill, Craigie took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute to put one hand on the shield. Menzieshill struck the post in the first half but the ball bounced away.
Conditions were tricky throughout as the heavy rain did not let up till near the end of the game. Chances were kept to a minimum with both keepers in good form, however Menzieshill grabbed a late equaliser to give Craigie a nervy ending. Craigie saw out the last minute of time added on, and the final whistle led to excited celebrations.
Final score : Craigie 1 Menzieshill 1

CRAIGIE HIT SEVEN IN LOCAL DERBY
Thur 5 May - Craigie beat Grove 7-3 in the DFCSS U14 Champions League. With one win behind them already Grove took an early lead when a cross from the left was sidefooted in at the far post, 0-1 (3m) but Craigie hit back within two minutes with a long-range effort, 1-1 (5m). Grove eventually went back in front with a low shot inside the far post, 1-2 (21m).
Halftime : Craigie 1 Grove 2
The second half was full of talking points. Craigie equalised right after the break with another shot from distance, 2-2 (37m). Grove thought they had regained the lead with a shot from the right which had the keeper in difficulties but the referee was unsighted and the goal was not given. Craigie then went ahead for the first time with a 20 yard shot over the keeper, 3-2 (42m). If Grove were still feeling aggrieved over the earlier episode, their luck evened out when they equalised with a shot from the edge of the box after seeming to be well offside, 3-3 (49m).

CRAIGIE (NAVY) DEFEND A CORNER FROM GROVE (ROYAL BLUE) IN THE DFCSS U14 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
The last quarter saw Craigie dominate more and more as they moved towards a deserved victory. A right-foot shot from 18 yards struck the base of the left post and bounced in to give Craigie the lead again, 4-3 (53m). Craigie then smashed a 30 yarder off the bar but no goal this time, but three minutes later Craigie increased the gap with a close-range effort, 5-3 (63m). Grove then were reduced to 10 men with a second booking, and Craigie used this to their advantage to score again from close range, 6-3 (67m) and finished the game off when a cross from the left was stabbed in on the line, 7-3 (68m). An impressive array of shooting from Craigie with the first four from long distance before settling for short range with their last three, and a good start to their Champions League campaign.

Meanwhile back at St.John's the U14s won through to the Urquhart Trophy Final (sponsored by the Dee Club) at Dens but were made to work hard by a good Menzieshill team. The opening goal came in the 12th minute - a corner on the right was aimed at the far post where a firm header beat the keeper, 1-0 (12m). Four minutes later St.John's increased their lead with a well-struck right-foot shot from 15 yards giving the keeper no chance, 2-0 (16m).

MENZIESHILL (RED) APPLY SOME FIRST-HALF PRESSURE
Goals were harder to come by in the second half but both sides had a near thing. First St.John's had a shot which came back off the left-hand post. Then in the last quarter some slackness in the St.John's defence led to an excellent chance for Menzieshill - breaking free on the right to fire a fierce shot from 20 yards goalwards, but the keeper got a hand to the ball to push it up on to the bar, a defender clearing off the line when the ball dropped.
The deadlock was finally broken with eleven minutes left as St.John's tried to equal the quality of the Menzieshill goals, winning the ball out on the right wing, waltzing past a couple of defenders and bulging the net with a fierce shot at the near post, 3-2 (59m).

PENALTY DRAMA AS GROVE SENIORS KNOCK OUT ST.PAUL'S
Tues 19 Apr - St.Paul's had already beaten Harris in the Senior Johnston Trophy Preliminary Round 4-3 on penalties after a 3-3 draw, but this time in the 1st Round the roles were reversed....and with a real sting in the tail. For most of the first half there was little to choose between the sides as St.Paul's and Grove went from end to end without creating many clear-cut chances. Grove had forced the keeper into one good save but in general the defences were coping well. Three minutes from the interval Grove hit on the break through the centre with the twin strikers combining well at pace, one heading the ball on into the path of the other who raced into the box and thumped his shot home from 12 yards - the keeper got hands to it but the shot was too powerful to keep out, 0-1. Just before the halftime whistle Grove launched a free kick forward from the halfway line, the ball fell wide left to an unmarked Grove striker who smashed the ball high past the keeper from an acute angle, 0-2.

GROVE (WHITE) STRIKE ON THE HALFTIME WHISTLE TO GO 2 UP
St.Paul's were back in the game three minutes after the break when some fancy footwork out on the left created room to put over a cross to the far side and a low left-foot finish from 12 yards beat the keeper to reduce the arrears, 1-2. Midway through the second half it was all square as St.Paul's pressure paid off - Grove blocked two or three attempts but could not clear and St.Paul's stabbed in an equaliser from close range, 2-2.

Grove had the next good chance ten minutes later, but a St.Paul's defender was on the line to clear.
It looked like penalties were on the cards, then with only three minutes on the clock a nice lay-off put Grove in with a chance - the striker was clear and struck a left-foot finish from the edge of the box into the far corner, 2-3. St.Paul's had not given up though and, when Grove needlessly conceded a free kick in the last minute, St.Paul's floated in the free kick from the right wing and it was met with a towering header into the back of the net, 3-3.
So to penalties : both sides scored with their first kick, Grove then had a weak effort saved and St.Paul's scored again to go 2-1 up. The St.Paul's keeper nearly saved Grove's next kick but there was enough power in it to score, St.Paul's had their next kick saved, 2-2 after three kicks. Both sides scored their fourth and, when Grove hit the right-hand post with their last kick, St.Paul's just had to score to win, but the shot flew wide right.
Grove scored their first sudden death penalty to go 4-3 up, then the chaos started. It all happened so quickly it was hard to say what happened but it seems the last St.Paul's kick hit the right-hand post, then the ball hit the keeper who grabbed it and the referee's opinion was that the ball had not fully crossed the line - so no goal, despite many in the St.Paul's ranks having a different opinion. But it was the end of the game, a thrilling encounter which nobody deserved to lose, and Grove had won through to face Morgan in the semifinal.
Final score : St.Paul's 3 Grove 3 (3-4 sudden death penalties)

EXTRA TIME WIN FOR BRAEVIEW IN THE U16 DUNDEE UNITED CUP SEMIFINAL
Mon 28 Mar - Braeview and St.John's played out a highly competitive game in the U16 Dundee United Cup Semifinal (sponsored by Arab Trust) which went to extra time, with the result in doubt till the final whistle.
With two teams in good form and a place in the final at stake it was always going to be a hard game. Neither team could manage a really sustained spell of pressure as play raged from end to end throughout. Both teams defended like demons and clear-cut chances were few and far between, but it was a game you could not take your eyes off.

BRAEVIEW (WHITE) ATTACK A CORNER v. ST.JOHN'S (SKY) IN THE U16 DUNDEE UNITED CUP SEMIFINAL
There were plenty of free kicks for both sides and the opening goal came from one on the left wing - Braeview swung a high ball into the box, a St.John's defender could only head the ball backwards further into the danger area and Cammy MacDonald powered a header down past the keeper, 1-0 (15m).
St.John's capitalised on a slack pass wide left in the Braeview defence a quarter of an hour later as Aidan Stewart ran on to the loose ball on the 18 yard line before slipping the ball under the keeper from 7 yards out, 1-1 (31m).

ST.JOHN'S (SKY) BRACE THEMSELVES AGAINST A FREE KICK FROM BRAEVIEW (WHITE)
The second half continued in the same frantic vein with nothing between the teams. Midway through the half the best chances fell to St.John's with two near things in a minute. First a break down the left outpaced the Braeview defence and the right-foot finish looked destined for the far corner but to Braeview's relief the ball struck the post low down. From the resultant corner St.John's had another opportunity at the far post but the Braeview defence stood solid and the ball was cleared. Normal time ran out without any further goals, and so to extra time.

The game was decided four minutes into the first period of extra time when Braeview worked a diagonal ball from the right wing into the box, where Cammy MacDonald peeled off defenders and dinked the ball with his right foot past the onrushing keeper, 2-1 (ET 4m)
A minute from the end of the first period St.John's broke quickly, picking up a long pass out to the right and driving in on the keeper. It looked odds on an equaliser but the keeper saved with his feet and the danger was cleared.
St.John's pressed hard in the second period in an attempt to win a penalty shoot-out but their best effort was easily saved by the keeper a few minutes from time, and the hardworking Braeview defence resolutely withstood any further attempts.
The final whistle ended one of the most hard-fought encounters and Braeview can look forward to a night out for the final.

BRAEVIEW REACH THE U14 URQUHART TROPHY SEMIFINAL
Thur 24 Mar - Braeview came from behind twice against Grove to ease into the semifinals of the U14 Urquhart Trophy (sponsored by the Dee Club). Grove opened the scoring early in the match with a low shot through a ruck of players 1-0 (5m) and looked like holding the lead till the interval but Braeview equalised close to halftime with a thunderous shot from the left-hand side over 20 yards out which rose all the way just under the bar, 1-1 (33m).
Halftime : Grove 1 Braeview 1
Immediately after the restart Grove went back into the lead when a speculative shot caught the keeper unawares, and when the ball fell loose Grove were first to react and sidefoot the ball past the keeper from 4 yards out, 2-1 (36m). This time the lead only lasted two minutes as Braeview picked up the ball 25 yards out, moved inside and curled a left-foot shot past the keeper's left hand....3 minutes gone in the second half and it was 2-2. Braeview were enjoying most of the pressure and it finally paid off with the game entering the last quarter, going ahead for the first time when a high ball from distance dropped over the Grove keeper's head just under the bar, 2-3 (52m). Two minutes later it seemed all over with a low ball from the left catching the Grove defence out, 2-4 (54m) and the result was put beyond doubt with a close-range finish as Braeview went all-out for goals, 2-5 (63m). Braeview now meet Baldragon in the semifinal.

Final score : Grove 2 Braeview 5

MORGAN (YELLOW) FIRE IN A FREE KICK AGAINST MONIFIETH (SKY) IN THE SENIOR JOHNSTON TROPHY 1st ROUND
Last year's finalists Monifieth started with a strong wind behind them and piled on the pressure from the kick-off, penning Morgan in their own half for the opening minutes. The visitors weathered the storm and came into the game with a couple of free kicks outside the box which Monifieth managed to clear. Neither keeper was really tested until the 23rd minute when Monifieth took the lead, punishing slack play in the Morgan defence by nipping in to round the keeper and roll the ball into the empty net, 1-0. With a semifinal place at stake the game was tense at times and had its tetchy moments, but it was lacking clear-cut chances and at halftime the home team still held their narrow lead.

MORGAN (YELLOW) ON THE ATTACK AGAINST MONIFIETH (SKY) IN THE SENIOR JOHNSTON TROPHY
The wind dropped in force at the start of the second half but the intensity of the play did not soften. Defences were still making life difficult for the strikers until just after the hour mark. The game then turned on its head as Morgan scored two goals in a minute. First a run down the right and cut inside drew the keeper and shot home for the equaliser, 1-1 (66m). Then Morgan won a free kick out on the left touchline about ten yards into the Monifieth half, and the ball sailed over the heads of everybody to give Morgan the lead, 1-2 (67m). With just 13 minutes left it looked like Morgan had done enough, but Monifieth were not finished and scored a dramatic equaliser in the last minute of normal time, when an attack put the Morgan defence into panic mode and, following a couple of failed Morgan attempts to clear, Monifieth stabbed the ball home from three yards to take the game into extra time, 2-2 (80m).

THE MORGAN KEEPER DIVES TO SAVE A SHOT FROM MONIFIETH (SKY) LATE IN THE SECOND HALF
Monifieth took the game by the scruff of the neck in the first period of extra time and crashed a 30 yard shot off the bar in the first minute. Morgan hit back but their attack was brought to a halt near the corner flag by a great Monifieth tackle, which set up a break for the home team through the middle - a shimmy past a couple of defenders and a firm shot under the keeper from the edge of the box put Monifieth ahead again, 3-2 (ET 2m).
Midway through the second period of extra time the game was all level once more, a handball in the Monifieth penalty area giving Morgan the perfect opportunity to equalise from the spot, 3-3 (ET 15m).
As the sun went down and the full moon rose the final whistle went, everybody shook hands and decided on their penalty takers.
Morgan were first up for the penalties and both teams scored their first two kicks. Morgan scored their 3rd but then Monifieth fired wide of the left-hand post. The advantage was lost when Morgan missed their next kick, the Monifieth keeper saving it onto the post with the ball rolling to safety. But Monifieth's 4th kick also missed the target, an exact replica of the 3rd kick going wide of the left post. Morgan stepped to put away the last kick and reach the semifinal.
Result after extra time : Monifieth 3 Morgan 3 (2-4 pens)

GROVE AND MONIFIETH IN DERBY DOUBLE
Mon 7 / Tues 8 Feb - Two games in two days at Dawson Astroturf saw mixed results in the Grove v. Monifieth games at U13 and U15 levels.
Monday saw the DFCSS U13 game where Grove ran out 6-0 winners, while on Tuesday Monifieth, surrendering home advantage to play under lights, ended on top 4-1 in the Arab Trust U15 League.
Grove U13s were quick off the mark in the game, heading home from a corner in the 4th minute for the only goal of the half. Grove should have added more and their profligacy in front of goal gave Monifieth heart and the visitors had a few chances themselves to equalise.
Halftime : Grove 1 Monifieth 0.

GROVE (NAVY) WATCH THE BALL CROSS THE LINE FOR THE FIRST GOAL v. MONIFIETH (SKY)
After the break the home team turned their dominance into goals, starting with a cross from the right turned in at the far post with 5 minutes gone. The last quarter saw Grove hold their own Goal of the Month competition with some superb finishes. First, an exquisite left-foot finish from 20 yards through a crowd of players inside the left post set the standard, 3-0. Then from out on the left the ball was passed into the right sidenet for 4-0. Next was a fierce right-foot strike from 25 yards into the roof of the net, 5-0, and on the final whistle another right-foot shot over the keeper, 6-0.
Final score U13 League : Grove 6 Monifieth 0
On Tuesday it was the turn of the U15s in a tense affair in the Arab Trust League. Monifieth were unable to get into the match at the start but Grove could not make their pressure count, and Monifieth broke to score twice before halftime. Shortly after halftime Grove scored to reduce the arrears but this only spurred Monifieth on to greater heights, producing a couple of dangerous chances, the first of which rattled the bar, the second just over the bar. Around ten minutes from the end Monifieth killed the game off from a corner, 3-1. The remaining minutes were not without incident however, as two penalties were awarded in quick succession. First a Grove tackle just inside the box felled a Monifieth striker, but the keeper leapt across to push the spot-kick away. However the ball was not cleared and another foul by Grove gave Monifieth a chance to try their luck again, this time with success, to finish the scoring, 4-1.

ST.JOHN'S (SKY) DEFEND A FREE KICK FROM HAZLEHEAD (GREEN) IN THE U16 SHIELD 4th ROUND
Perhaps the tricky surface of the pitch was partly to blame but as early as the 4th minute the visitors fell behind when the Hazlehead keeper came out to kick clear as a St.John's attack broke down - his clearance was miscued and fell to another St.John's striker who picked it up and fired into an empty net, 1-0. No more goals in the first half, St.John's got a head to a free kick but it went over the bar, the best Hazlehead chance fell near halftime when a free kick was headed inches past the post.

ST.JOHN'S POISED TO PULL THE TRIGGER FOR 2-0 AFTER A RUN FROM THE HALFWAY LINE
The second half was 6 minutes old when St.John's doubled their lead - a quick break from the halfway line down the left, the defence left for dead, the keeper was beaten from 15 yards, 2-0. St.John's went 3 up near the hour mark with a break through the middle, the keeper came towards the edge of the box but St.John's got the shot away and it rolled into the bottom left corner of the net, 3-0. The job seemed done but there were several nervy moments and sometimes the game became more competitive than need be. With seven minutes to go Hazlehead grabbed what seemed a consolation when a corner was firmly headed in at the near post, 3-1. The St.John's keeper had been in confident mood but was beaten by the pace of the header. St.John's had a late chance to restore the 3-goal lead with the striker alone in front of the keeper who managed to get his body in the way to save. Time was almost up and the game won but a moment of madness saw a St.John's player red-carded. Hazlehead pressed hard into time added on with the advantage of the extra man and in the 3rd extra minute scored again, when a free kick from wide right was not cleared and was rammed in at the near post, 3-2. But as soon as the play restarted the final whistle blew, St.John's were through to the last 16 with a trip to Bearsden or Auchinleck in prospect. Updated - St.John's away to Auchinleck.

GROVE THROUGH ON PENALTIES AGAINST ST.JOHN'S IN TEN-GOAL THRILLER
Tues 25 Jan - Fantastic entertainment in the local derby between Grove and St.John's in the Lloyds TSB Scotland U14 Shield. The 3rd Round game was played at St.John's after a couple of recent postponements. Grove took the lead in the 7th minute with a low shot which hit the right post before crossing the line, 1-0. The lead lasted only three minutes as St.John's fired in a shot from the edge of the area on the left, the ball was not cleared and was tapped in from close range, 1-1. St.John's soon had chances to go ahead but one was cleared off the line and a long shot was well saved. Grove fought back and regained the advantage in the 18th minute when a low shot from the right found the keeper hesitating as the ball went in the far corner, 2-1. St.John's should have equalised 3 minutes after, breaking the offside trap, rounding the keeper but only finding the side-net. St.John's were left to rue that miss as Grove produced a strong run up the right followed by a firm cross, a helpless St.John's defender could only turn the ball into his own goal, 3-1. Five minutes from halftime Grove seemed to have things sewn up with a brave header from 8 yards beating the keeper who was on his way out but not fast enough, 4-1. Three minutes later St.John's gave themselves some hope with a fast break through the middle and cool finish into the bottom corner, 4-2. There was still time for some controversy when a strong shoulder charge from a St.John's defender which might have been seen as a penalty was adjudged to be an indirect free kick on the edge of the box. Grove then smacked the bar from 20 yards and had the rebound saved.

ANXIOUS FACES AS ST.JOHN'S (SKY) WATCH A SHOT FROM GROVE (ROYAL BLUE)
The second half continued with many talking points and plenty of excitement. St.John's had an early corner but the header at the far post did not produce a goal. Grove were adjudged to have fouled in the box 7 minutes after the break and St.John's converted the penalty to bring themselves back into it, 4-3. Both teams huffed and puffed for fifteen minutes before another goal fell. Grove moving down the left, beating the offside trap and shooting low into the far corner, 5-3.

GROVE (ROYAL BLUE) ATTACK A CORNER v. ST.JOHN'S (SKY) IN A TREMENDOUS LLOYDS TSB SCOTLAND U14 SHIELD GAME
With 10 minutes left and two goals down St.John's increased the pressure. First they had a shot kicked off the line, then pulled one back with a low shot following good work on the right, 5-4. St.John's nearly levelled with a curling shot from the left but it flew inches past the far post. In the last minute St.John's slung over a high ball from wide on the left almost on the bye-line - the keeper and defenders were in all kinds of problems and, when the ball fell loose, St.John's slammed the ball into the net for the equaliser, 5-5. The final whistle sounded.
End of normal time : Grove 5 St.John's 5
Both sides had agreed to go straight to penalties and dispense with extra-time (perhaps disappointing given the quality of entertainment in the regulation 70 minutes) and it was Grove who stepped up to take the first penalty. Grove scored 1-0, St.John's scored 1-1, Grove then shot over the bar...still 1-1, St.John's scored 1-2, Grove scored 2-2, St.John's had their third saved...still 2-2, Grove had their fourth saved...still 2-2, St.John's had their fourth saved...still 2-2, Grove scored their fifth 3-2, St.John's had to score to stay in but a high shot was tipped by the keeper onto the bar and over so Grove won 3-2 on penalties.
The Grove players rushed to their keeper who had saved three spot-kicks in the shoot-out to celebrate then it was handshakes all round. Grove now face a trip to Cults Ac. (Aberdeen) in the 4th Round.

Wed 24 Nov - There was nothing between the sides when Monifieth took on Crieff HS in the Bank of Scotland U13 Shield 2nd Round. After a 1-1 draw the only thing to separate the teams was a penalty save by the Monifieth keeper. Crieff took the lead in the 13th minute after the first shot had been saved - the rebound was fired in too high for the keeper, who got hands to the ball but being a little off-balance could not keep it out.
Monifieth equalised in the 27th minute with a low shot which beat the keeper at his near post. A brief snow flurry came to nothing and the game carried on.

MONIFIETH U13 JOY AT THEIR EQUALISER AGAINST CRIEFF HIGH SCHOOL
The second half was just as even as the first half, the best chance fell to Crieff 8 minutes after the restart from a corner. Monifieth had a defender on the far post who was able to clear off the line. No more goals and with light fading the teams went straight to penalties. Crieff started the shoot-out and both teams scored their first four penalties, the Crieff keeper nearly stopping one which just trickled over the line. Crieff's last penalty was well struck to the left at head height but the Monifieth keeper guessed right and made a great save. Monifieth coolly scored their 5th penalty to win the shoot-out 5-4. The next round will be the battle of the penalty kings - Monifieth have beaten their 1st and 2nd Round opponents on penalties and now travel to Montrose Ac. whose only game in the competition was also decided on penalties.

The home team started well and created several chances in the opening minutes but Arbroath countered in the fifth minute and went ahead with their first attack, finishing from close range, 0-1. St.John's worked hard to get back into the game after this early shock, but the Academy were a good match for them and looked like keeping their lead till the break. Six minutes from halftime however St.John's won a free kick 20 yards out and the kick beat the wall and the keeper for the equaliser, 1-1. Just on halftime St.John's took the lead with a clever goal, running across the box from right to left before checking and turning the ball back past the keeper's left hand, 2-1.
Halftime : St.John's 2 Arbroath Ac. 1
Final score : Monifieth 1 Crieff HS 1 (5-4 pens)

MENZIESHILL SENIORS SNATCH LATE WINNER AGAINST MORGAN
Tues 2 Nov - With the clocks having changed Menzieshill surrendered home advantage to play Morgan under the lights at DISC in the DFCSS Arab Trust Senior League. For most of the game it seemed they would surrender full points as well but a last-minute goal gave Menzieshill a 3-2 win and left Morgan wondering about life, having played two games in the league which followed a similar pattern - Morgan throwing away a two-goal lead to lose in the last minute. Morgan started brightly but Menzieshill had the ball in the net only for it to be chalked off for offside. Midway through the first half Morgan opened the scoring with a shot from inside the box wide on the right and ten minutes from halftime Morgan doubled their advantage when a cross from the left was headed in strongly from 10 yards, beating the keeper at his near post.

MORGAN SENIORS (YELLOW) ON THE ATTACK AGAINST MENZIESHILL (BLACK) AT DISC
Morgan had chances in the second half to put the result beyond doubt, the best being a shot from wide right which bounced back off the middle of the bar and away to safety. The game continued to be fast-paced and end to end but as the game entered the last quarter Menzieshill started to gain the upper hand. It seemed like a well-deserved consolation goal when a cross from the right was not dealt with by the Morgan defence and Menzieshill hit a low shot from the edge of the box past the diving keeper's left hand. With 5 minutes left Morgan conceded a corner which could have been avoided, the ball was not cleared properly and Menzieshill curled in an equaliser from 15 yards with a firm strike inside the far post. Morgan perhaps had the feeling their good work was being undone, similar to the game v. St.Paul's, and their worst fears were realised when Menzieshill lobbed in the winner from 20 yards in the very last minute to extend their lead at the top of the table.

ST.PAUL'S (GREEN) ON THE ATTACK AGAINST MORGAN (YELLOW) AT DISC
The equaliser was not long in coming as four minutes after halftime St.Paul's moved the ball quickly from one end to the other and hit a low shot from just inside the box on the left into the far corner, 2-2. On the hour mark St.Paul's took the lead for the first time from a firmly struck and perfectly placed free kick 25 yards out on the left which sailed over the keeper's arms and dropped into the net at the far corner, 2-3. Morgan came back five minutes later with arguably the best goal of the day, a super volley on the turn from just inside the box into the top of the net following a free kick, 3-3.
With only a couple of minutes left a draw looked on the cards when the Morgan keeper made a good save from a long-range St.Paul's effort, but a minute later St.Paul's snatched the winner when a long ball going wide right created confusion in the Morgan defence - the keeper stayed and the defender tried to shepherd the ball out but was robbed, and a couple of passes later the ball was switched to the left and smashed into the net for the winner, 3-4.

With time running out and a draw looking on the cards, Monifieth pressed again and seemed to waste their last chance, but Monifieth regained possession 10 yards outside the box, threaded a great ball through to the edge of the box and a calm finish with the last kick of the game beat the keeper to win full points, 1-2.

GROVE (NAVY) DEFEND A CORNER AGAINST ST.PAUL'S (GREEN) IN THE U13 LOGIE CUP FINAL
The game settled to an even balance with both teams having half-chances but nothing really close. That all changed in the 21st minute when St.Paul's hit a speculative high ball from 30 yards which had the Grove keeper racing back - as the ball looked destined to clear the keeper for the opening goal, the keeper flung himself to make a miraculous save and claw the ball off the line ..... however by the time he had got to his feet, St.Paul's were back in possession on the 6-yard line and the low hard cross was knocked in at the near post, 0-1 (21m).

U14 URQUHART TROPHY FINAL (sponsored by the DEE CLUB) - Dens Park - Wed 4th May, 6.00 BALDRAGON 0 ST.JOHN'S 5
The opening game in the Dens Park double-header was the U14 Urquhart Trophy Final (sponsored by the Dee Club) with Baldragon Academy taking on St.John's HS. On a nice sunny evening both sides made an even game of it to begin with. St.John's had a glorious chance in the 8th minute but managed to sky the ball over the bar from a couple of yards out - one in the "easier to score" category. Two minutes later it was Baldragon's turn but somehow the ball went spinning narrowly wide of the right-hand post. The Baldragon keeper was called into action more and more frequently, but could not prevent St.John's taking the lead in the 16th minute following a break down the inside left channel and Innocent Carena scoring off the post after various attempts to save had been thwarted, 0-1.

ST.JOHN'S (SKY) v. BALDRAGON (BLACK / WHITE) AT DENS
The second half had just begun when St.John's doubled the lead, Aiden Benvie slipping it past the keeper, 0-2 (36m). Baldragon kept in the game for the next 15 minutes but found it difficult to get behind the St.John's defence. As the fourth quarter started, St.John's pressed hard to put the game beyond doubt. Aiden Benvie ran through the middle and tucked the ball away inside the right-hand post from the edge of the box, 0-3 (52m). Two minutes later a ferocious strike thumped off the bar, then John Bonnar in the Baldragon goal pulled off a good save to turn the ball behind. From the resultant corner Aiden Benvie completed his hat-trick with a right-foot shot from 8 yards, 0-4 (56m). Captain Daniel Thomson rounded off the scoring two minutes after with a cracking strike from outside the area, 0-5 (58m).

U15 SENIOR SPORTS CUP FINAL (sponsored by the DFCSS) - Dens Park - Wed 4th May, 7.35 MONIFIETH 0 GROVE 2
Monifieth and Grove took the field for the U15 Senior Sports Cup Final (sponsored by DFCSS). With the cup now over 100 years old, it was perhaps surprising that neither school had ever lifted it before. The fact that it was the East derby added a bit of edge as well. Monifieth had won the last encounter between the two, but it was Grove who took the lead even though the chance seemed to have been passed up initially - a good run down the left by Ranald Bowie produced a dangerous cross along the 6 yard line but the ball ran wide with nobody able to connect, then Grove returned the ball to the far post where Darren Mackie rose to head home, 0-1 (17m). Ten minutes later Monifieth fired in a 25 yard effort which deflected over the bar to land on the roof of the net.

Nearly on the hour mark the game was all but decided. Monifieth gave the ball away cheaply close to the centre circle and the ball broke to Darren Mackie, who drove forward up the right into the box, leaving a defender trying to keep pace, before unleashing a right-foot shot across the keeper into the far corner, 0-2 (57m).

ALL SMILES FOR GROVE AFTER THE SECOND GOAL
Not long after another Grove shot was well hit but too wide to be dangerous. Monifieth did their best to get back into the game towards the end but it was too little too late. First a corner was headed over with 6 minutes left and three minutes later when their best effort, a venomous 30 yard strike, was tipped over the bar by the Grove keeper, the result was no longer in doubt.
Darren Mackie of Grove collected the Man of the Match Award from John Keith and Neil Matthew of DFCSS who then presented all the players with their medals, and the Senior Sports Cup to Grove for the first time in their history.

U16 DUNDEE UNITED CUP FINAL (sponsored by ARAB TRUST) - Tannadice - Wed 11th May, 6.00 MORGAN 1 BRAEVIEW 7
The U16 Dundee United Cup Final sponsored by Arab Trust was won by Braeview with a convincing display against Morgan.
Braeview thought they had opened the scoring in 10 minutes but the goal was chalked off for offside. But Braeview continued to press and eventually took the lead when Cammy McDonald on the bye-line 6 yards left of the goal hit the ball hard so that it bounced off the keeper and into the net, 0-1 (20m). Two minutes later the maroons doubled the lead - a cross from the right was cleared by the Morgan defence but only as far as the penalty spot where Stephen Clark thumped the ball home, 0-2 (22m). Morgan defended well for the rest of the half with two good saves preventing further goals, but just on halftime Chris Irvine was left on his own on the right and he struck a fierce shot from the corner of the penalty box right into the centre of the goal, unstoppable for the keeper, 0-3 (40m).

BRAEVIEW BEMUSED AT A GOAL BEING CHALKED OFF FOR OFFSIDE BUT STILL GO ON TO NET SEVEN
As the second half got under way there were chances for both sides - Braeview had a header well saved by the keeper, then a Morgan free kick landed on top of the net, followed by a Morgan shot just wide. Five minutes in Morgan had a chance to get back into the game following a handball in the area, and Andrew Lawson put the spot kick away, 1-3 (45m). Morgan joy only lasted for a minute as Braeview restored the 3-goal lead when Shaun Connelly tapped in from close range, 1-4 (46m). Braeview looked the more likely to score again and a low shot from Frankie Lannen caught the keeper out, 1-5 (54m). Soon after a Morgan corner created problems when a sclaffed shot met two ricochets before the keeper caught it. The game was killed off when Cammy McDonald met a free kick from the left with a towering header into the bottom corner for his second goal of the night, 1-6 (61m). The scoring was wrapped up when Stephen Dodds waltzed through the Morgan defence to set up Ross McKay for a finish, 1-7 (65m). Cammy McDonald then went through again looking for his hat-trick but keeper Ryan Anderson denied him with his feet. Braeview hit a post but could not add to their tally. The final whistle sounded to give Braeview their first Dundee United Cup win in 10 years.
Final score : Morgan 1 Braeview 7

ST.JOHN'S KEEPER PUNCHES AWAY AN ATTACK FROM BRAEVIEW (MAROON) IN THE U16 CAIRA TROPHY FINAL
By the second quarter Braeview were increasing their control of the game and creating several good opportunities with their composed midfield play. Braeview continued to look the more likely to score after the break with some fine inter-passing moves in Barça style while the St.John's attacks all found the Braeview keeper in confident form. The next goal was going to be vital and it came just after the hour mark. Braeview launched an attack which developed into an almighty scramble in the box, a powerful header from Cammy McDonald was parried by the St.John's keeper but Stephen Clark was on hand to ram the ball in from 6 yards out, 0-2 (63m).

U17 GEORGE GRANT MEMORIAL TROPHY FINAL - St.Paul's Ac. - Thur 2nd June, 4.25 MENZIESHILL 3 MORGAN 2
It was almost Groundhog Day in the U17 George Grant Memorial Trophy Final.
Just like last year it was Menzieshill and Morgan in the Final, it was a beautiful sunny day at St.Paul's, and Menzieshill had to fight back from two goals down to win the trophy. Though the goal tally was not as high as last year, it was not for want of trying.
The game started with a minute's silence for one of the Morgan classmates who had sadly passed away a couple of months ago.
After a fairly even opening it was Morgan who opened the scoring with two goals in a minute - a lob over the keeper, 0-1 (11m), was followed by a route one long ball from the Morgan keeper and finished for 0-2 (12m).

MORGAN (YELLOW) v. MENZIESHILL (GREEN) IN THE U17 GEORGE GRANT MEMORIAL TROPHY FINAL
However last year proved that a two-goal margin is not enough and a quarter of an hour later, it was all level. Menzieshill pulled one back with a finish from 8 yards, 1-2 (24m) and cut the defence open again to equalise a minute later from a similar distance, 2-2 (25m).

MORGAN (YELLOW / BLUE) ON THE ATTACK AGAINST MENZIESHILL (GREEN / BLACK)
Morgan started the second half with a chance which went wide of the post, but with 8 minutes gone Menzieshill turned the game around with a shot which put them ahead for the first time, 3-2 (48m).
Midway through the half Menzieshill nearly increased their lead but a last-ditch clearance off the line kept Morgan in the game.

MENZIESHILL (GREEN) DEFEND THEIR SECOND-HALF LEAD AGAINST MORGAN (YELLOW)
For the rest of the game most of the chances fell to Morgan who pressed hard for an equaliser but a mixture of bad luck and excellent Menzieshill defending kept the score at 3-2. The best chance fell to Morgan who rolled the ball across the goalmouth inches from the line but there were no takers and the ball was scrambled away to safety.

SENIOR JOHNSTON TROPHY FINAL - Tannadice - Wed 11th May, 7.40 MORGAN 3 ST.JOHN'S 3 (7-8 pens)
The Senior Johnston Trophy Final between Morgan and St.John's was expected to be good and it certainly did not disappoint. With the teams not having faced each other in the qualifying stage of the league, there was no previous record to work out who might be favourite. But both teams had provided most of the squad for the Senior Schools Select so it was fitting that they all took the field at Tannadice.

ST.JOHN'S (SKY) DEFEND A FREE KICK FROM MORGAN (YELLOW) IN A DRAMATIC SENIOR JOHNSTON TROPHY FINAL
Connor MacLeod put Morgan one up with a shot from the left from 6 yards out, 1-0 (14m) but St.John's were soon level when Nick Mann's shot from the right landed just inside the far post, 1-1 (18m). St.John's were then awarded a free kick in the centre 25 yards out, and Ross Ritchie struck a low shot through the defence into the net to give St.John's the lead, 1-2 (31m). Morgan replied a minute later but hit the post. Connor MacLeod then sent over a tantalising cross from the left, but there were no Morgan players able to connect. With only two minutes till the break St.John's increased their lead when a cross from the right on the bye-line was turned in for an own goal at the far post, 1-3 (43m).

ST.JOHN'S (SKY) AND MORGAN (YELLOW) IN THE RAIN AT TANNADICE
Morgan got the second half started with a good solo run from Connor MacLeod but Anton Mordente pulled off a good save. St.John's then forced a super save from Morgan keeper Justyn Brough. Jack Reilly was clean through for Morgan but his shot went inches wide of the near post.
Morgan continued to press and, just after the hour mark, Connor MacLeod was put clear by David Rae but his cross from the right eluded everybody. St.John's came close to another goal with a tremendous volley on the turn from Jordan McMahon which flew past the post.
Soon after Morgan started the fightback - Connor MacLeod showed great control on the edge of the box and lobbed the keeper from 20 yards to hit the back of the net, 2-3 (77m). Morgan thought they had equalised with five minutes left and could not believe the flag had been raised for offside. Their disappointment was short-lived as David Rae headed in at the far post the following minute for a late equaliser, 3-3 (86m).
The final whistle soon sounded and it was on to a penalty shoot-out.
Morgan were first up for the penalties and both sides scored their first three kicks. Morgan's fourth kick was saved low down by Anton Mordente and with both teams scoring their next shot St.John's had the chance to win it but Justyn Brough threw himself to pull off an excellent save. After 5 kicks each it was 4-4 and on to sudden death.
Nobody seemed to have any nerves as penalties were confidently struck and thumped into the back of the net, with both teams scoring their first three sudden death shots. Morgan stepped up for their 9th penalty but blazed the ball over the bar to give St.John's the upper hand. St.John's keeper Anton Mordente took the short trip to the penalty spot to face Justyn Brough and finished calmly before being embraced by his team-mates.
Final score : Morgan 3 St.John's 3 (7-8 pens)
Connor MacLeod, the Morgan captain, won the Lee Walker Man of the Match Award, then all the players were presented by DSFA President Andy Sinclair with their medals, with St.John's captain Ross Ritchie lifting the Johnston Trophy.
It was a fantastic game and both teams will remember their visit to Tannadice for a long time and, following last year's epic between Baldragon and Monifieth, the Senior final continues to be one of the most exciting games of the season.

ARBROATH HIGH WIN LEAGUE
Arbroath High and Webster's were the top teams in this year's campaign and it looked like the game between them would decide the title. Webster's were doing well until a 3-0 defeat by neighbours Forfar in April seemed to give Arbroath High the advantage. In the big game between them in June Arbroath High conceded two late goals to Webster's who salvaged a 3-3 draw in their last game. But Arbroath High still had a game against Brechin in hand and a 4-1 win on a very wet day in mid-June gave them the points they needed to wrap up the title undefeated.

Thur 26 May - ARBROATH ACADEMY AND MONTROSE IN AN EXCITING 5-5 DRAW
Well done to both teams for braving the elements and turning in a super performance, with the result in doubt till the final whistle.
Montrose played into the wind and rain in the first half and were denied on several occasions by the Arbroath Academy keeper. The keeper was finally beaten in the 8th minute, as the rain started to ease off, 0-1. Arbroath Academy started to take advantage of the wind at their backs and equalised direct from a free kick into the bottom corner, 1-1 (14m). This strike gave the Academy confidence to go for more and a minute later they were in front, a break down the left ending with a shot under the keeper, 2-1 (15m). The Montrose keeper then ran out wide but failed to collect, Arbroath Academy passed inside and finished calmly 3-1, (24m) and another goal two minutes from the break gave the Academy a good lead to take into the break, 4-1 (28m).

MONTROSE (BLUE /YELLOW) ATTACK THE DEEP END - JUST WIDE
ARBROATH ACADEMY (BLACK) SCORE THEIR OPENER FROM A FREE KICK
But Montrose now with the wind behind them were soon back in it, with a shot from the right hitting the far corner two minutes after the restart, 4-2 (32m). The Academy keeper then made one of his few mistakes as he misjudged a clearance into the wind and Montrose fired the ball back over his head and into the net, 4-3 (36m).
For the next 15 minutes there were no further goals, but not for the want of trying. Montrose hit the bar, and the rebound was well struck but the keeper threw himself at it to deny a goal, then a Montrose shot from the left cannoned off the far post and straight into the keeper's arms. The Arbroath Academy keeper pulled off two more wondersaves to keep his team in front, the Academy were quick to break but could not create any clear-cut chances.

MONTROSE (BLUE) ON THE BALL IN THE ANGUS BANK OF SCOTLAND SOCCER ONE LEAGUE
With seven minutes left the Academy did increase their lead with a run up the left, a pass inside and a tap in from inches out, 5-3 (53m). The home team could have confirmed their first victory four minutes later with a shot from the right which beat everybody but struck the base of the far post and bounced to safety.
Montrose were not giving up and following a throw-in on the right lashed the ball over the keeper, 5-4 (59m). In a dramatic last minute Montrose broke through the middle and shot home for a last-gasp equaliser, 5-5 (60m).

ACTION FROM ARBROATH ACADEMY (BLACK) v. MONTROSE (BLUE / YELLOW) IN THE 5-5 DRAW
Montrose delight and Arbroath Academy despair at the final whistle, but both teams are to be congratulated on the spirit the game was played in, and the skill shown in defiance of the strong wind. It was the first draw of the season in the league and, though both teams stay at the foot of the table, you could have been forgiven for thinking it was a league decider. Man of the match without doubt was the Arbroath Academy keeper, who made a series of superb saves in very difficult circumstances.

Wed 2 Mar - LEAGUE LEADERS GIVEN GOOD TEST
League leaders Arbroath High came away with a 3-2 win over Monifieth but the home team pressed them all the way. The visitors took the lead in 5 minutes with a speculative lofted shot from outside the box catching the keeper in two minds and the ball was fumbled over the line, 0-1.
Monifieth hit back in the 9th minute, shooting home from the edge of the box after a corner on the right was not cleared, 1-1. Arbroath High were not overawed and three minutes later regained the lead when a cross from the left was firmly headed past the keeper from 5 yards out, 1-2. Play raged from end to end but there were no further goals in the first half.

Midway through the second half Monifieth hit on the break down the right to equalise for the second time, shooting across the keeper into the far corner, 2-2. Ten minutes from time Arbroath High pressed down the left and hit the winner, Monifieth falling behind for the third time in the game, 2-3. ACTION FROM MONIFIETH (SKY) v. ARBROATH HIGH (YELLOW) IN THE ANGUS BANK OF SCOTLAND SOCCER ONE LEAGUE
Mon 24 Jan - ARBROATH HIGH WIN LOCAL DERBY
A nice sunny day in Arbroath for the first Angus Bank of Scotland Soccer One League game of 2011, chilly in the wind, wet underfoot in parts, but after a long winter break it was good to get a game under the belt, and it was the Arbroath derby.
Arbroath High suffered a heavy defeat last season at home to the Academy but the tables were turned this year. The first half was however a fairly even contest, the High School did have more of the ball but then they were going down the slope. The Academy defended well and broke upfield on many occasions so there was an end-to-end feel about the game. In the first quarter the best chances fell to the High, a clever dribble waltzing past defenders, a shot which grazed the outside of the post, other attempts saved or blocked on the line. Then with 18 minutes gone the Academy charged up the right wing and went ahead when the shot hit the far post and bounced in. They did not have long to enjoy the lead as the High equalised a minute later, the Academy keeper calling for the ball but not collecting, and it was tapped in for 1-1. Five minutes later the High took the lead with a low finish from 10 yards.

THE ACADEMY (BLACK) OPEN THE SCORING AGAINST THE HIGH SCHOOL (WHITE) IN THE ARBROATH DERBY
The second half was only two minutes old when the High increased their lead, 1-3. The Academy were not making as much headway going down the slope as might have been expected and their best chance came when a High defender cleared for a corner which was dangerously close to being an own goal. The game was effectively over when a High corner was not cleared properly, and the ball was returned with a superb lob over the keeper's head from outside the box, 1-4. A fifth soon followed after a run up the left wing caused all sorts of problems for the Academy defence, then an Academy goal kick was intercepted by the High who returned it into the bottom corner, 1-6. The final goal came near the end, a fitting strike to wrap up the game, a fierce shot into the top corner from 20 yards, 1-7.
Final score : Arbroath Academy 1 Arbroath High School 7
Arbroath High now set the pace with 3 wins out of 3.
